I used my stranger things oc for this XDBasically, she was Harry pottered to the Byers family and grew up with them, she always hated her dad because he was a drunkard, but her mum and her brothers were always there for her and,especially her brothers were ready to defend her against anything. She'd find metal and DND at a young age (about 10-11 years old) and was fascinated by it. Through this hobby she'd befriend Eddie and become part of his party, they'd go to all kinds of concerts and festivals together and have fun. At about 15 years of age she'd find out about her sexuality (she's a lesbian) and come out of the closet to Eddie, through that she'd find out that Eddie is actually gay. One day she'd take her brother home and they both go missing. While in the upside down she gets 'killed' by the demobats and wakes up as a vampire. She then finds her brother and tries to protect him, but through mysterious ways she gets pulled back into the normal world. There she tells everyone about the upside down, but the policemen think she's just so traumatized, that she imagines things. Her brother then gets found and she finds out, that she isn't the only vampire in the world. She's introduced to the brotherhood and they explain that she is a 'royal', which is because she wasn't turned by another vampire, but by 'bats of another world', and that she possesses a lot more power than the non-royals. She also now knows, that once she doesn't drink blood for a month, she falls into a 'bloodlust', which means that she can't control herself and her body anymore, and her instincts go wild. Now there's a lot in-between, which I haven't decided how to go yet, but after some time she gets abducted by the Russians and escapes by using her bloodlust against them. While all that she hides her powers and pretends like she can't control them, incase she needs to use them as a kind of 'suprise attack'. Her family then moves away while she stays with Eddie. The fact that I made an somewhat immortal skeleton that good punished for robbing a tomb and got 11% on being a Mary Sue...This is why I like using dnd classes as a guide to make characters.
This is btw what I sent my DM as a backstory.
Born in the desert, raised in a working class family of glass makers. Wanted to get rich and joined a group of tomb breakers, the used to sold the riches outside of the Desert to wealthy people. Fell in love with one wealthy duke's daughter Eliza Jane Troodey, (they had a son he doesn't know that) Her father did not approve for his daughter to marry a thief. Her father then send his men to chase of Eick. He returned back to the Desert. He became pretty good at breaking into tombs so once he and his group tried to rob a secret tomb of Rar'ghidar. But once they were on their way out, just when the rest of his team with the treasure were in the last corridor, Aick slipped and stepped on a trap and fell into a pit. The rest of the Red toads (the thief group) got out leaving Eick stuck in the tomb. He later died of dehydration. Only to be brought back to life as a skeleton by the lich like creature to who was the tomb sacred to and who was living in it. He was cursed to walk the earth as an skeleton till the end of times. He then roamed the tomb until he found Cream the spider-lizard goat. In the end he got out. It took some time until he realised 40 years passed since he died. He roamed the tomb of 40 years. He did assimilate, thanks to a blind wizard Alban, who thought him some spells to hide his appearance. Eick never told him he was a skeleton. (Alban is still alive) Eick ended up being a guide for travelling merchants in the desert. Sometimes he would steal bits of stuff that the merchants were trying to transport. Usually they let it slip because the fear of being without a guide in the desert was a bigger problem than a lost gold necklace or two. Well until he tried to steal a ruby ring, the merchants crew beated the s--- out of

Well until he tried to steal a ruby ring, the merchants crew beated the s--- out of him. He woke up some time later having no clue how he got there. He got back into the City only to be told by a stranger than he lost his job as a guide. (Every time he "dies" he wake up a day later not remembering something - can be last month or what he did for 20 years. So technically the more he dies the less he remembers.) So he now doesn't remember a year of working for a desert guide guild. He also died once when he washed his clothes at night and a group of adventurers broke him up into a pile of bones. He again woke up day later having no clue where he hid Cream. He eventually found her! But he also found a bard having a good time... So now Aick has a no longer virgin spider-goat and a drum. He is currently looking for a group who will help him find a way to rid himself of the curse and finally go to enternal sleep. Also he is looking for his old fellow thiefs of the Red toads. (Now 60-80 y.o. gentlemen) to do a little bit of mischief and scare them from beyond the grave.

He lives in a post apocalyptic distant frozen desert land that was ravaged by global warming and then machines.
He's kind of like this tired 30+ old scientist that was tasked long ago by the government to retrieve life on earth 1000+ years after the catastrophy.
He was genetically preserved in a tank in a secret labratory underground where he was released from after all attempts of stopping the catastrophy failed, 18 yrs old at the time and tasked to literally reboot the entire eco system is kind of a big burden to put on barely an adult.
He lives in that labratory and almost exclusively never goes out because he's terrified he might catch a disease or get hurt and that might halt his progress in his research, so basically a wimpy mad scientist guy in a post apocalyptic sci-fi setting.
Zander is 6'2 in height, lean with almost no muscle and a really pale complexion, he has curly shoulder length brown hair and usually wears a long brown trench coat and a grey turtleneck underneath, he also wears round glasses and has pernament eye bags.

Hes 8 feet tall and when he becomes a swordfish he is 14 feet LONG. Sansa (joke name. Also no her real name). They are a Skeleton that has major ADHD and no magical powers. The reason for no magic was due to a damaged soul, so not only a lack of powers, but a shortened life span. The only way she could use magic for a short period was through "chemical magic" which is mixing monster magic with chemicals to liquidfy the magic to be drank. Will one last a few minutes. Sansa (I wheeze at the name every time lmao) is a 42 year old, with a height of 5'6. For being so old, she is surprisingly active and childish, possibly due to ADHD.

I got an 18% on my character, Zibethicus (Beth for short). They're a muskrat who died hundreds of years ago, but was accidentally reanimated by a necromancer, who was trying to revive her girlfriend. Beth's skull and consciousness was put on a human skeleton. They're incredibly smart for a muskrat, but in human terms they are an absolute idiot. They ended up with some necromancy powers but have no idea how to use them and keeps accidentally reanimating random things. They started out as a joke character but at this point I am incredibly attached.

Aveline was 5 years old, attending kindergarten at Castor Elementary, when her music teacher noticed she had a beyond-exceptional singing voice for her age. However, this same music teacher was involved in a large underground operation which abducted young children for talent-based experiments. Aveline was an easy target, so she was soon abducted. The organization then spent months traumatizing her into the point of disassociation, and restructuring her RNA so that she would completely forget her past aside from singing. After that, they spent five years tirelessly training her voice, so that it would be as perfect as possible. All of this was to evolve societys talents, and create a superior human race. When she was ten, one of the other children (academic talent) started a riot and escaped, helping Aveline and several other subjects escape. However, due to the neurological trauma the subjects suffered, they soon forgot and / or repressed the memories. Their life expectancy is also very short as a result of the experimenting. One day, in October, a group of detectives began searching for a series of suspicious missing children cases. There, they found Aveline and took her in.

i feel a bit to old for this quiz and was kinda just playing it bc why the hell not, but i got a 20%! my oc is a 14-16 as the story continues year old girl named aviv goldhirsch and is the protagonist of pinechester detective agency (pcda), an original story. generally, she tries to be normal, but there are a few things about her that stand out: most notably her yellow eyes (not a big angsty thing just the center of some jokes & comments). this is because she can see ghosts. is this a thing she wants? no. ghosts suck. theyre annoying. one day, she basically gets stolen from her parents and is brought to the seemingly uninhabited town of pinechester, vt, to work at a weird detective shop upstairs from a small cafe that appears to be the only business in town, and always has exactly what the person who shows up wants on the specials menu. what she finds there when she goes over is more interesting: ghosts. pinechester isnt uninhabited, its whats called a ghost town, towns scattered across the world as refuges for wandering spirits. in this job, she solves various mysteries involving customers at the shop with the help of the mysterious owner raven and her pet talking cat, all the while being stalking by cecily mairin and laura brooke, two immortals who have been watching the earth for a while. the issue is that not only is laura almost done with her shift in spectatorship and only a year away from leaving to return to her previous career as an interdimensionally known pop star, but she has received her first job in a while: keeping an eye on a girl with yellow eyes who can see ghosts and reporting if she dies. which brings us to the other issue: though cecily has figured out whats up with laura, laura has no idea that cecily is immortal, or the center of various old folk tales she has been told over her lifetime regarding the girl in a dark red coat who apparently killed a prince ruling over one of the two nameless worlds (what they are is clarified later) and nev

(ooo s--- theres a character limit) and never was found by the people laura works for, having been assumed to have fled to another world. laura never realizing that cecily is immortal might seem like a plot hole, but you have to recognize that laura is really, really dumb and never actually decoded human lifespans.
i didnt expect to have to answer yes to as many of these questions as i did. i do project bits of myself onto aviv (we have the same ethnicity which shows in our appearances, a similar fashion sense, some of the same major interests such as music, like a lot of other characters in my story shes coded as autistic, and shes a bit younger than me when the story kicks off but in general were around the same age), but our personalities are very different, and i dont try to make her perfect, excessively normal, or excessively abnormal. a mary sue is a trope often found in fanfiction generally written by neurodivergent normally afab kids from 11-13 trying to figure themselves out and expressing what they want in their lives through media they fixate on. ive written mary sues too. most notably a literal interdimensional traveler who managed to force herself into the world of saiki kusuo no psi nan and i think i gave a comphet crush on kaidou although i was a gayass 11 year old and didnt actually feel anything i was writing. it was part of how i coped with trauma i had experienced and expressed the way my mind works as an autistic person and i think i gave up and gave her a female best friend eventually. aviv isnt that. mary sues are not unnatural or to be shamed, but the only real symptoms of us being the same is her being the center of like 3 prophecies about the girl with the golden eyes who can see the unseen, her having yellow eyes, and us looking slightly similar bc though im not a person of color, i am a member of a marginalized ethnic group i rarely see properly represented in media. though my current name isnt a. real name (its the same as my username, s

somehow it wasnt taken) my deadname is very ethnic and has an apostrophe in it. anyways my story lasts like 6 arcs and what i was describing was just the first one. here are some comments i have for the quiz:
- 1 - 3 is the lowest answer in the how many characters fall in love with your character question. my story does have romance in it, but i feel like not every story needs to. what if no characters fall in love with your character, because the story isnt about romance? thats fine too.
- i dont think mary sues are to be shamed, but honestly, getting a low result isnt a bad thing. making your character cooler isnt spicing them up, spicing them up is giving them a personality. what i like about the characters i get invested in is that they have personalities. its hard to decode whether or not a character has a personality from a quiz like this, you kinda just have to listen to the person talk about their character.
- i guess this is true in general since fan characters and oc x canon are often written by younger fans who tend to right mary sues but its hard to get a higher result if your character isnt a fan character. i havent made a quiz on here so idk, but is there a way to make an option that doesnt affect your result? if so, not a fan character should be one of them.
- r*tarded is actually a slur towards autistic people and telling people who are probably pretty young and have been raised in cultures where these terms are constantly used isnt going to stop them from using them isnt going to automatically make them not ableist, but just keep that in mind, okay?
anyways that was a fun quiz! even though i really like how my character is written, it made me think about her through a different lense and its been fun to read through the other people on heres descriptions of their characters. thanks! :)

I got a 29% on the quiz, at first I was scared that Joseph was going to be a Mary sue because he did not have a horrible depressing back story like most shonen anime characters, but he is not. I am so happy because of that. Joseph is a 16 year old apprentice mage that specializes in healing magic an he joined a guild of other people that use magic too. He soon makes friends along his journey of becoming a mage and he makes a group of friends. That's all the story is for now, I will make many changes to it. I am just sooooo happy that Joseph is not a mary sue I love him too much to change him.

My OC Donny is 26% a Gary Stu. The quiz said he could take some spicing up.
Here is a quick summary of him:
He is not a fan character, he is from an original story and one day when he was very little a sketchy man came up to his parents door and offered to buy him for $10,000 for a medical trial. His parents accepted the offer. The doctor said he would be brought back to his parents soon and unscathed but that did not happen.
At the lab, they did lots of experiments on him, they tried to figure out the reason behind his immortality (which he was born with) by various methods, they tested medicines on him but their biggest project was trying to turn him into means of psychological warfare.
They ended up giving him brainwashing powers which would give him the ability to make others develop schizophrenia, but the only downside was that he had schizophrenia himself. (This would probably not work in our universe but his universe has different science, psychology and physics.)
He was in the lab until he was 15 and then he escaped through a tunnel in the ground he had been carving since he was 5. He ran away from home instead of going back because his parents were neglectful and abusive (well duh the literally SOLD him) 1/2

He found a pretty decent job as an artist, he bought a trailer and lived there and his schizophrenia was more manageable now as he was seeing a psychiatrist and taking prescription medications. Things were going pretty smoothly for him until a van full of people came to his house and took him back to the lab.

So, since we're all sharing OCs, here goes nothing:
His name's Nathaniel, the youngest of 17 princes in an empire that dominates half of the continent. Magic is a rarity in their world, something limited only to the royal families of every country. It's not mana-based like in other stories, but rather, it's depended on how much power the patron god/goddess of each respective continent is willing to give to an individual. Nathaniel...got nothing. He was the "useless, unfortunate prince", until he started developing a love for inventing, and nurtured that skill for a decade or so. With the support of his mother, he grew to become as one of the youngest and most prominent inventors that paved a way for the industrial era, having the people who called him "useless" eat their own words.
The emperor favored intellect above all else. He laid the foundation for progress to see which of the princes would do anything about it, and Nathaniel was the only one to complete the task. Nat hated him though. He hated that he had the same amethyst eyes as him. It was the eyes of a manipulator, able to turn everyone into his puppet, blood-related or not, he doesn't care. His mother had protected him from this tyrant, until she died of illness when he was 14. He was a young inventor, left grieving and vulnerable in the presence of a predator, who was ready to exploit his cultivated skill in the name of the empire. His mother was his only support system, and the grief of losing her was so overwhelming that he latched onto the first person who offered him a hand. Unfortunately, that person was the emperor.
Three years of being a mindless puppet, three years of manipulation and self-loathing because he is fully aware that he's being taken advantage of, but has no emotional strength to free himself. Three years, of feeling...numb. That numbness is slowly deteriorating into torture, yearning to feel, something, anything. All of it, leads to self-harm.

So, his name is Jake Bellarte, a brazilian 15 years old who had his whole world turned around when at his 9 birthday he got a nice peek at the hidden world, the abyss is what he calls, supernatural entities, phenomenons and other things lurks in the darkests pits know to man and beyond, now he a baseline human (with just some spice to not make him die instantly) has to fight against the extinction of humanity with the SCP Foundation, no prophecies (only that the world will die), no easy ways, no kindness for human life. Jake was to make his way to save the maximum number of people he can. he will do with even lowering himself to the lowest of the lowest of scum, or doing unforgivable heresy, maybe his soul will burn for eternity in hell, but he WILL save his family and people from Earth from what is to come.
Is it cringe? Or overly Mary Sue? Don't really know, he does get some powers along the story, and the final he DOES become powerful as fu** (Not that he will be all-powerful, just strong enough to not die instantly to literal deities wanting to eat the Earth as a whole) He will lose people, he will lose many thing and gain others, if he will grown out of his past and accept what he has done? Now we will need to see.

I got 17%! Firstly, my character's an OC for a story I'm making. He's not human, but nobody in the story is human, either. Does that count as a Mary/Gary Sue trait? He's called Alexei Bane, or Alex - he prefers this - for short. He has blue eyes and white hair (unnaturally colored hair is common in the world though), and he's 20 years old. He's a hero in the story - but it's a job. Kind of like the heroes in MHA or the ADA in BSD?
He does attract attention when he goes out, because he's known as a celebrity. He has a reputation for being an angel of sorts, his looks play a part in this, though in actuality he's quite emotional and angry.
He does have a boyfriend (bisexual), no he hasn't slept with other people a lot because he has a boyfriend and neither of them are interested in a polyromantic relationship. For his parents, they're dead. They were former heroes who were famous, and though they had a good reputation, he was pressured to become a hero by them. He's traumatised by them and has difficulty expressing himself and venting it healthily, but he's seeking out help with a therapist. Due to his trauma, he has anxiety (coming from a person who has anxiety I'm not adding this in because iT's CoOl or whatever). He takes safe space with his boyfriend.
He does have a supernatural power, but everybody has them in the story. He has teleportation and is quite good at hand to hand combat. He dreams of being an artist, but is scared of the backlash if he quits his job so suddenly. He's the victim of a tragedy where multiple heroes and civilians were massacred by a criminal group. He did suffer some injuries, however he survived. His parents were also killed from this, and he feels guilt for being glad at the moment that he heard that they died (his parents did all the things you're not supposed to do to a living being that starts with an a and ends with an e). Due to this and his trauma, he became a hero and constantly hates it.

Did that on Clestin: a little wizard whos really terrible at magic (and will stay like that). He is blonde, wearing normal clothes. Hes french (Im french, the story is set up in France), have super kind parents, hes 13 (3 years younger than me) have no trauma, is not involved in any prophecies. His clumsiness is actually the reason of the plot of my whole story: doing a time spell instead of another (I havent thought of what spell it should be) and yeah, thats pretty much the character ! I got %20-%28, I did it bc I was curious! My character is Kounna okami, shes the daughter of inari okami the Asian goddess. Shes a kitsune and she lives in a camp with other demigods like her, the questions that I think made it so high was 1. She dont have a remarkable singing voice but its decent enough for her to sing to her kids so I was kinda stuck, 2. She didnt die and come back Alive but she was in a coma at one point but i think I answered no and 3. Is being a demigod royalty? I dont think so but idk

Huh, a 20% not bad... I was honestly expecting a lot more because of how kinda O.P. (not a lot but still enough to be mentioned) my persona is.
Okie, SO! A little bit of context for how my persona was created (this will be really important in a sec). I can't have dreams that look realistic(e.g. lucid dreams, ones with real place or time settings e.x.) or else I'll have a Nightmare and wake up crying (roughly about 4 times out of ten) because of this I often have dreams that are in the fictional world and look like the art style as well. I have a type of photographic memory that allows my mind to remember things like this, but also alter the image if my mind doesn't like it(why I can dream in an art style). NOW this is the cool part. I can remember most of my dreams and because of this I remember what a character looked like too. I normally play as (or am represented)in said dream as a persona named Omega Bites.
Omega Bites is what I'd like to call my subconscious self as that's how they were created, by my dreams. They are a 7'0 to 7'6 (when on all fours) feet tall fluffy,gold and Blush-peach Pantherine (Wild cat, typically lion, or other with bird or other animal wings) Other Cat (a jumble of wild cat's so messed up ya don't know what type it is) with white wings, the tips turning to a rainbow like color. They have a freakishly long tail with a silver-gray mechanical claw-like mechanism on the end. The end of their tail can open up to reveal syringes and potion-like bottles. Said syringes can be fired at an impressive speed much like a bullet would. Omega Bites can also shape-shift and is mostly lurking, watching, or engaging with the main character's adventure in my dreams, since I typically don't like to make my dreams all about myself. Omega has a small,brown, pouch-like infinity bag wrapped around their neck. They often apply to cartoon logic when dealing with world physics or types of magic. Speaking of which! ok NGL, as much as a lot of these questions make sense, some of these should not and realistically do not count as valid. In any other genre besides plain old Mayo fiction you're gonna have some of these elements included naturally. Like off of this, to assume an orc is a Mary Sue cuz of their eyes being orange or something? Just a note to anybody new to writing, don't feel insecure or think ur character is a mary sue for obvious fantasy elements in a fantasy setting. Your elf or kobold can have glowing pink eyes and lose their family without being a Mary Sue. Just make sure what you give your character makes sense in such a setting. And to de-mary-sue a character by being fat or retarded is kind of depressing.
that being said, the actual plot elements still apply across genres, dont be afraid of character flaws.
