  1. "What's he doing here?" Kelly whispered at me as we pulled our heads out of the aisle. "How am I suppose to know? I don't know everything that's going to happen." I whispered back and Kelly raised an eyebrow at me. "You should." She said. "I could say the same thing to you," I retorted, "Now hush. He's coming." Since the bus got so quiet, I could hear his footsteps coming to the back of the bus. I looked across the aisle at Kelly and she gave me a "what do we do?!" look. I shrugged and pointed under the seats with a question look on my face. She hesitated and then nodded her head and we both went under the seats in front of us, taking our bags with us. His shoes went past us and he sat where Kelly was. I moved back so my feet were touching the wall and he couldn't see me. I looked over at Kelly and she had a terrified look on her face. It took me a lot not to laugh at how scared she looked. The bus pulled to a stop and kids started getting off of the bus. The guy's feet walked past us and we rolled out from under the seats. Kelly started breathing heavy and I raised my eyebrow at her. "Were you holding your breath?" I joked as I stepped into the aisle. "Yes. You would too if he was less than a foot away from you." Kelly replied.
  2. "I doubt I would." I said. "I bet you would." Kelly argued as we stepped onto the ground and walked towards the school. "Would not." I argued back. "Would to." Kelly persisted and I just rolled my eyes and continued to walk to the school. "You dreamt of the field too, right?" I changed the subject as we neared the school. "Oh, okay, good. You saw it too. But, uh, yeah. I saw the field." Kelly replied nervously. "What is it?" I asked and opened up the school's doors. "Well, after you got sucked up in that tornado thing, I heard a voice." Kelly confessed. "What'd it say?" I asked as we walked to our first period class: English. "I'll tell you when it's safe to talk about it." Kelly said and I looked around. "There's no one in the hallway." I pointed out. "Exactly. There is absolutely no one in the hallway." Kelly said and then stared at me like I was suppose to get something that she said.
  3. "I don't get it." I said after a moment of silence and we stopped walking. "There's no one in the hallway. There is always someone in the hallways. Especially since we have five minutes left to get to first period." Kelly pointed out and then I got it. The shadows seemed to be more.... watchful. Different. I got that tingly feeling down my back, like someone was watching me. "You're right. It's not safe here. Let's get to first period." I quickly said and then we started fast walking down the hallway to get to English. We walked into class and I froze as I saw the guy sitting in a seat at the front of the room. Kelly and I quickly and quietly sat at the seats in the very back and the ones closest to the door. "What do we do now?" I asked. "Ignore him?" Kelly suggested. "How is that going to keep him from finding out our names? We have a sub and that means that he's going to call out our names and then we're going to have to say 'here' and then the guy will find out our names." I rambled.
  4. "Shut up. Get your act together." Kelly harshly said. "Rude much?" I said. "Just a little bit." Kelly confessed and then the bell rang. "Alright. My name is Mr. Grill and I am your sub for today. I will say your name. If you're here then say 'here'. Understood?" Mr. Grill said. He had a little bit of a lisp. "Mr. Grill?" Kelly whispered to me like that was the most ridiculous name she's ever heard. I just shrugged. "Okay. Samantha Bartley?" Mr. Grill asked. "Here." Sam said. "I cannot here you. Where are you? It's too noisy." Mr. Grill said, even though it was completely quiet. "Here!" Sam shouted and waved her hand in the air. "Alright. Caleb Benson?" Mr. Grill asked. "Here!" Caleb shouted as loud as he could. "Okay. Justin Crow?" Mr. Grill asked. "He's not here." Sam said. "What?" Mr. Grill asked. "Oh my god. Are you deaf? He. Is. Not. Here." Kelly shouted.
  5. "Kelly!" I whispered. "What?" She said and I motioned with my eyes to the guy and realization settled on her face. She quickly turned her head around and stared at the door. "Alright, Justin Crow is not here." Mr. Grill mumbled and marked it on the paper while Kelly started giggling to herself about how he didn't hear her. After three minutes later, Mr. Grill got to our names. "Okay, Kaylee Moore?" Mr. Grill asked and my heart started racing. "Here!" I said. "Where?" He asked as he adjusted his glasses. "Right here!" I yelled and waved my arm. "Okay, um... Kelly Night?" Mr. Grill asked. "Here!" Kelly yelled and waved both arms in the air and I rolled my eyes. "Thank you. Now, lets see. Jason Seagle?" Mr. Grill asked. Last I checked, there was no Jason Seagle in this class and Kelly was suppose to be the last person on the list.
  6. "Here!" The guy from last night said. "Okay class, from the instructions that I was given by your teacher, you're all reading Julius Caesar in your groups. Is that correct?" Mr. Grill asked and we all said yes. "Okay. You can go read now." "He says 'okay' a lot." Kelly commented and I nodded my head. "You want to go out in the hallway and read?" I asked. "Sure. Go ask." Kelly said. "And you go get the books." I said and we walked our separate ways. I walked up to where Mr. Grill was. "Can me and her," I pointed at Kelly, "go out in the hallway?" "Does the teacher normally let you go out in the hallway?" He asked and I felt someone standing behind me. "Yes." I replied. "Then yes, you two can go out in the hallway." He said and I turned around. I stared at the floor and turned my head once when I realized that Jason was standing behind me.
  7. "Can we go out in the hall?" Kelly asked as I came up to her. "Yes, yes we can." I replied and grabbed my book from her. As soon as we were about to walk out in the hall and out of the room, Mr. Grill stopped us. "Uh, Kelly and Kaylee, is it? You can go read with those two out in the hall." Mr. Grill said and I saw fear in Kelly's eyes for a moment before she opened up the door and we stepped out in the hall. Kelly cursed... multiple times before she finely stopped and Jason came out in the hall. Kelly and I turned our backs to him and stared at the wall, probably looking like idiots. "Hey, I'm Jason." He said and I just waved my hand in response. "Is something on the wall?" Jason asked and Kelly and I shook our heads. "Are we gonna read this?" He asked and I shrugged. "Are you guys going to talk?" He asked and Kelly shrugged and I heard footsteps coming from the right of me. I slightly turned my head that way to see who it was and I wish I hadn't. It was my ex, Drake.
  8. I groaned and leaned my head against the wall in front of me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kelly turn her head to where Drake was, and did the same thing as me. I felt Jason giving us confused and strange looks. Drake walked up and casually said, "Hey, Kay." I just waved in response. "Hey, Kelly." Drake said and Kelly waved to him too. "How long have they been doing this?" I heard Drake ask Jason. "I don't know. They haven't said a word at all." Jason said. "I can fix that." Drake said and I felt him walk up to me. All of a sudden, Drake quickly poked me on my sides, making me jump and laugh. "Why?" I asked, still laughing. "Why not?" A playful glint crossed his deep blue eyes and then I realized that his hands were still on me. I cleared my throat and he- too quickly- jerked his hands back, and it became awkward. "Right. Kelly." Drake said and then walked over to Kelly. He simply just pulled her back and, reacting on instinct, Kelly slapped him across the face. At least, I think it was an instinct.
  9. "Really, Kelly? Really?" Drake asked as he rubbed his cheek. "Sorry, it was an instinct. I wasn't paying attention and then I felt someone touch me, and then yeah, you can figure out the rest." Kelly explained. "Uh-huh. Sure thing, Kelly." Drake said disbelieving and then walked away, still hold his cheek. "So, why weren't you two talking or even looking at me?" Jason asked as soon as Drake turned around the corner. "Uh. Fine." Kelly moaned and then we both turned around. "You're those girls that saved me from getting hit by that car, aren't you?" Jason asked, waving his pointer finger at us. "No?" Kelly tried lying. "Yes you are." Jason said. "Okay, so? Yes, we are the girls." I confessed. "And now the balance of the world is screwed up even more. Whoopdie-doo." Kelly sarcastically said while waving her hand in the air and leaning back. I just rolled my eyes. I saw movement out of the corner of my left eye and I tilted my head that way a little bit.
  10. "Drake...." A voice faintly whispered, sending chills down my back. "Um, I'll be right back. You two stay here and if you hear anything happening, go in that room." I nervously said and pointed towards the storage room. I had a really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach and a crazy thought popped into my head. "Why?" Jason asked. Kelly just stared at me weirdly. "Just do it." Kelly said once when she was snapped out of her trance. I then ran around the corner where Drake went. I saw him give an office lady a note and then I saw two guys walk into the school. And worst of all, they were carrying guns. "Okay, so maybe it wasn't that crazy." I whispered and then fast walked to an empty room. Drake passed me and I grabbed his arm and pulled him back. "What the-?" Drake automatically said, "What are you doing, Kaylee?" "Saving your butt." I replied and then pulled him into the empty room. Shots fired as soon as I closed the door. "What's happening?" Drake asked. "Shh!" I said as I locked the door. "I think they can break through a locked door." Drake whispered. "I know! I'm trying to remember. Now shut up and give me a couple of seconds." I whispered back as I tried to remember my crazy thought that turned out to be not that crazy. 'Okay. The guys burst through the door and start shooting. But where do they not shoot at?' I thought and started jumping up and down, trying to remember. Then, I remembered. I quickly grabbed Drake's hand and pulled him into a cupboard, near the door. I followed him and heard the door handle jiggle. I quietly closed the cabinet door and as soon as I did, I heard the door crash open.
