‘They’ve written about me before, trust me, nobody cares! A couple parody plays will be played on the street if it’s really that bad, but that’s only ever happened to Chester-‘
-
"What if people do care?" Lavender asked quietly. She pulled her hands away to give the poor old lady her lemon bar. "What if they care a LOT?"
-
‘They don’t know us. It’s not their place to say if our relationship is wrong or not, which it isn’t.’
-
Lavender looked up at her. "How on earth are you so calm about this?"
-
Maeve shrugged. ‘I’m used to it, I guess. We can hang out in places more private, I just don’t want you to be scared around me…’
-
"I don't want you to feel like you're walking on eggshells around me. I want to be around you in public, and be able to hang out with you all the time. I'll get used to the reporters." Lavender lied about the last part.
-
‘We can hang out somewhere people won’t know us. Like… the Caribbean.’ Maeve watched her. ‘I don’t want you to be scared.’
-
Lavender looked up at her. "I don't want you to feel like you're hiding when you're with me, either. I just want us to be normal." She buried her head in her hands for a second. "I'm sorry, I'm not making sense."
-
Maeve pulled her close. ‘It’s okay.’
-
“It’s not.” Lavender looked up at her. “I know I’m asking for too much.” I know we can never me normal.
-
‘It is,’ Maeve said. ‘We don’t need to hang out in public. We can go anywhere in the world you want, y’know.’
-
“But why should we have to hide from everyone? Why can’t they let us be with each other without flashing their cameras?” Lavender ran her hand through her hand. She was being such a brat, not letting Maeve try to help her calm down.
-
Maeve rubbed the back of her hands with her thumbs, trying to help her calm down. ‘Because people like being nosy about royals. I-I’m sorry, I should’ve told you I was a princess when we first met.’
-
Lavender shook her head. “No, no, it’s not your fault. It’s their fault for being so nosy about us.” She squeezed her hand.
-
‘I’m sorry it’s like that,’ Maeve said, not sure what else to say to try and calm her.
