  'I'd say you deserve a princess if I wasn't a princess,' Maeve sighed, looking down at their joined hands. Her lips pursed for a moment. 'I'm a terrible princess. You deserve a better one. I'm sorry, Lav, I really am.'

  Lavender shook her head, shuffling closer. "Maeve, stop." She hugged Maeve closer to her. "You're an incredible princess. I don't want a better one even if she somehow exists." Deep down, Lavender didn't even believe she deserved Maeve, let alone some other hypothetical perfect princess, but she wouldn't admit that yet.

  Maeve rested her head on Lavender's shoulder, freezing for a moment before slowly hugging her back. 'That's what they all say,' she spoke, in a feigned playful tone. 'C'mon, let's go somewhere. I've been cooped up all day.'

  Lavender frowned, not sure why she was acting so distant. She sighed softly, not sure what she could do to help. "Okay." She pulled away from her, taking Maeve's hand in hers. "You know I love you, right? More than anything."
