Lavender glanced at her every so often while she worked. "I'm sorry I made you feel like you needed to be away from me for a bit." She mumbled so the customers wouldn't hear.

'I thought you were upset with me,' Maeve mumbled.

"I wasn't." Lavender mumbled back, looking down at her hands. "I'm sorry I shoved you away."

‘It’s fine.!

"No, it's not okay." Lavender frowned, taking her hand under the counter gently.

‘It is,’ Maeve said, squeezing her hand.

"No, it's not. I shouldn't have shoved you, and I shouldn't have expected you to keep talking to me after."

Maeve frowned. ‘I could’ve at least told you I was upset.’

Lavender didn't say anything for a bit, looking up at her. "I really wasn't upset at you. I thought I heard a reporter, and then I got mad at myself for being paranoid."

‘It’s okay,’ Maeve mumbled. ‘I get it.’

"No, Maeve, you don't get it." Lavender turned to her. "The reporters scare the s--- out of me. I don't know how I'm supposed to act around them. I feel like they're writing down every remotely odd thing I do. They make me feel like I'm doing something wrong when I spend time with you." She looked up into Maeve's eyes.

Maeve faltered. She’d gotten used to the reporters. She hadn’t stopped to think how Lavender felt about them. ‘I… didn’t realise. They’re not that bad, I promise.’

"They are that bad! Every time I'm around you I'm scared someone has a f---ing camera!" She looked at the customer, which was an old lady patiently waiting for a lemon bar and totally not eavesdropping. "Sorry for the language."
"No worries, dear." The lady smiled. -
‘Barely anyone in your kingdom- country knows who I am,’ Maeve said, grabbing her hands. ‘I’m really sorry. It’s not you they’re going to write about, I promise,’

"I don't want them to write about you either!" Lavender frowned.
