  1. Ian's camaro chases down the highway. A patrol car pulls up behind you. "Ian, you HAVE to stop!" you yell. "Not yet!" he says speeding up. You have been driving for twenty minutes. There are now three cop cars behind you. "Son," calls one of them through a loud speaker. "Pull over now and no one gets hurt." "Ian, please!" you yell. "I can't! I have to get you to your mom!" "It's not like she's dying or something! Is she?" Ian speeds up again. You pull into the hospital parking lot. You get out quickly. Ian drives away with the cops following. You walk in and see the secretary at the front desk. She's on the phone. "I can't believe she dumped him! And for Neal! Is she crazy?" "Excuse me, is there a Kimberly Anderson here?" you ask. She gives you a annoyed look then says, "Yeah I'm going to have to call you back. Okay. Bye. Did you say Kimberly Anderson?" "Yes ma'am." She enters the name into the computer. Here's what comes up. Name: Kimberly Anderson Age: 37 Height: 5' 5" Weight: 140 lb. Cause of Death: shot to the head. Date of Death: Wednesday, August 27th. Time of Death: 2:05. It was 2:20. "Uh," she says trying to think of something to say. "She's not here, exactly." "What do you mean?" you ask. "I mean she's not here. As in she died." Your mouth is open in disbelief. "Was she a friend of yours?" "You could she that," you say. "but more like a mom." "Oh my gosh," she says. "Is there anything I can do?" You don't hear her. You're holding onto the counter but let go and stumble into a chair. You wait for Ian. You start to cry.
  2. Miles away, the cops are still after Ian. "This is your last warning. If you don't pull over now, we will have to shoot." Ian pulls over and gets out of his car with his hands up. All three of the cops get out pointing guns. "I think we're going to have to take him in." "Do you really want to do that?" he hears in his head. "Excuse me? Are you questioning my authority?" "Who the heck is he talking to?" one cop says to another. "You don't want to do that." he hears again. The longer Ian looks at him, he finally says, "I don't think we should take him in. Lets get out of here." "Is he crazy?" the other cop says. "I said lets go!" They all leave. Ian gets into his car."Well done, my son." a voice says. "Thank you, father."
  3. Ian walks into the hospital. You're still sitting in the same chair. He walks up and kneels in front of you. "_________," he says. "She died." you say staring at the floor. "I just saw her this morning, and now she's dead." A tear rolls down your face. "I'm so sorry. It's all my fault." There's a long pause. Both of you are staring at the floor. "No, it's not." you finally say. "You can't always balm yourself." You get into the car. "So do you have any idea who killed her?" you ask. "We're not sure yet, but we'll find out soon." "We'll?" "I mean I'll." "Your going to have to tell me soon." you say getting a quiver in your voice. "You not telling me has already caused my mom to die. It's not your fault, but if I knew what was going on, maybe I could have helped stop it." "You couldn't of. It's beyond your power. You're not ready." "I just don't want anyone else to get hurt." "No one else will get hurt." "How do you know?" you ask. "I promise."
  4. You run in to your house and hug your dad. You both immediately start to cry. "I wish this didn't happen. " "Me too," you say. "but don't worry. When I find out who did it, I'll make sure they go back from where they came from. "
  5. The next day, Thursday, you walk into school. Addison Hills is a small town so pretty much everyone knows about what happened. You hear people talking. "It was in the paper," "in the news," "someone shot her," "poor ________," You go to your locker. Some people come up to you. "I'm so sorry," "I hope you're okay," Then James comes up. "I'm really sorry about what happened." "It's okay." you say wiping away your tears. Mark comes up too. "Are you alright, ________?" "I'm fine." You don't feel like talking to them right now. You walk into Mr. Ligby's room. You see Mike. You go and sit next to him. He doesn't say anything at first. He doesn't want to say the wrong thing to you. Class starts, you aren't really paying attention. "_________, please finish the statement. For atoms that contain more than one electron, the Pauli Exclusion Principle states that:" You don't know the answer. "Uh, um..." "The answer is that no two electrons in an atom can have the same four quantum numbers." Mike says. "Thank you, Mike. Miss. Anderson, considering everything you have gone through, I'll give you a pass from seeing me after class." "Thank you, Mr. Ligby." You look over at Mike and mouth the words 'thank you'. You take out a piece of paper and write: See, I told you. You are smart! He writes: Wanna eat lunch with me? You write: Sure. After class you go into the cafeteria. Mike meets you in line. You get your lunch, and find a table. "How about we sit here." Mike says. You put your trays down. "Don't you want to sit with your friends?" you ask. "Not really. I thought we could just sit alone." There's a short pause. "Do you wanna talk about it? Your mom, I mean." "Not really." "I'm just really sorry. I know when my dad died I didn't think the pain would ever go away. But I found that talking about it actually made me feel better." You look up and smile, a fake smile. He can see you're really hurt. "I don't exactly know what your going through. My dad was always on business trips so I didn't see him very often. I bet you were really close to your mom." "Yeah, I was," you say looking at your tray. "I remember when I was really little," you say remembering it like it was yesterday. "my mom and dad would always take me to the Addison Zoo. Almost every time we went, we would eat lunch at Rainforest Cafe. It was my favorite place. My parents just wanted me to be happy. And I guess I just feel like I never got to thank my mom. I wish she was still here. If I knew she was going to leave, I would have changed so many things." "I know what you mean." Mike says. "If you need someone to talk to, let me know."
  6. Amy walks over with Jake. "_________, I-I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry." she sits down and gives you a hug. "Me too, _________. I feel horrible. Do they know who did it?" "Honestly, I don't know anymore than what was reported. I wish I did." "Well, I'm here for you." he says. "I am too. And hey, if seeing a movie will help you feel better, we have a open schedule! Maybe we could double date! Me and Jake and you and that Ian guy." "Oh, look that's really nice but we're not, you know, 'together'." "Whatever you say... It sure seems like you are. Catch you later." "Okay, you guys."
  7. You go to drama. You don't feel like it though. You love acting and theater, but you just don't feel like it today. And of course as soon as you walk in, Mrs. Mills is all up in your business. "_________, you can tell me. Is what happened to your mom the reason that you left early?" "Yeah, I'm really sorry about that. We didn't want to cause a scene." "Oh, honey, I don't care about that at all. I just hope you're okay." "I'll be fine." "Alright, then. " She turns to face everybody. "I decided that we won't be reading Romeo and Juliet today because I need to purchase an old English dictionary." Everybody sighs. "We will instead be sharing our favorite quotes. Anthony, what's yours?" "It's 'I feel like I'm the best, but you're not going to get me to say that.' " "And who said that? " "Jerry Rice. He's a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. " "Okay," she says. "What about you, Jessica?" "Hum. That's a hard one. Probably, 'God help you if you are an ugly girl, 'course too pretty is also your doom, 'cause everyone harbors a secret hatred for the prettiest girl in the room.' and that's by Ani Difranco. I don't know who she is but since I am the prettiest in the room I like that quote." "Okay, then. _________, do you feel like telling us yours?" "Yeah, sure. Um, mine's actually one that my dad told me when I was little. 'You can always become a better person. But you only become better if you help others to as well.' " "Thank you."
  8. Your car still isn't repaired, so you decide to walk home. "Hey," you hear from a car driving on the road. It's Mike. "Do you need a ride home?" You smile and get in. "Thanks." you say. You get to your house. "Look, I know I haven't known you for that long, but I was wondering if you wanted to go to the movies with me tomorrow. It wouldn't really be a date, unless you want in to be-" You laugh. "I would love too. Uh, Jake and Amy are going, do you wanna go with them?" "Sure!" he says with a shy smile. "Great!" "Okay, I'll see you tomorrow at school." He drives off.
  9. "________, I uh, didn't hear you come in." your dad says taking his glasses off. "What are you doing?" "I'm just going through some paper work that's all. " "You mean for mom's funeral?" "Yeah." "Oh." "Do you wanna do something for dinner? Pizza maybe?" "Sure." After dinner you head upstairs to your room. You take your soccer ball and kick it around. "Ouch!" you hear. It's Ian. He is at your window, which is open, and had hit him on the head with your soccer ball. "Sorry, Ian!" "Don't worry about it." he says climbing in. "I decided I'm going to tell you." he sits down on your bed next to you. "Have you heard of the Greek gods? " "Yeah," you say. "Well, they have something to do with what's been going on." "What do you mean?" "Your parents, aren't your real parents." "What?!" "How do I explain this. Okay, your real parents are Athena, goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, and Apollo, the god of music and healing. " "Are you serous?" "Would I lie to you?" "I don't know..." you say in shock. "Zeus was afraid that you would be to strong, so he sent you to earth. To Kimberly and Michael Anderson's doorstep. They had not been able to have children, so they thought of you as a gift from God." "Oh my gosh," you say. "So they don't know?" "No. Not that I know of. " "And what about you?" "Well," he starts, "My Father isn't from earth. He's is Zeus' brother, Hades, king of the underworld. My mother is a mortal. I haven't talked to her in a long time." "Wow." "I'm sorry I couldn't tell you before." "So I'm like a god/human/mortal?" "Yeah." "Wow." you say. "Are you upset about this matter?" "I'm not sure... it's a lot!" "Yeah, I know. So, what are you doing tomorrow evening?" "Actually, I have a 'date' with Mike from school." "Seriously?" "Yeah!" "You barley even know him, ________." "I know, but that's why people go on dates. Right? To get to know each other." "Yeah," he says as he gets up. "I gotta go." "Ian, wait." you say. But he was gone.
