  1. I'm sorry it took me so long. I was totally swamped with homework and exams, and well, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. This is my Christmas edition. It isn't as magical as some writers make it, but I tried my best. *Recap* Last time, you spent a very short time in the library at the beginning of the second Hogsmeade visit of the year. Fred and George Weasley dragged you out of the library, and explained that they had basically set you up on a date with Oliver in Hogsmeade. Accompanied by Harry, you made your way to the secret entrance in Honeydukes. After Ron finds out about the date, you get in a brief argument, and you go to find Oliver in The Three Broomsticks. After a while, you leave and he kisses you outside, until Draco interrupts with a snowball aimed at Oliver. Draco threatens to turn you in for being in Hogsmeade, and you rush back to the castle, only to be caught by Snape. Fortunately, Neville manages to get you out of the situation, and you briefly see Ron as he is running to save Harry from the same problem. The next day, you see Oliver off on the train for the holidays, telling him that you will give the relationship a chance.
  2. After the drama of the past day or two, it was a relief to see the Hogwarts students leave for the holidays. I was really the only Ravenclaw staying over Christmas, so I camped out with Hermione and Ginny in the Gryffindor common room, laughing and talking long into the night in the cushy armchairs. Christmas Day came soon, and I found my small pile of presents had been brought to the common room for me. I had gotten a lot more than usual that year. I got a book from Hermione (big surprise), quite a bit of candy from Neville, Ron, Harry, Ginny, and Padma, a five pound note from my grandparents (which was incredibly generous for them), and a necklace from Oliver. It wasn't fancy, with a small eagle pendant on a silver chain, but the meaning was definitely there. I put it on as Harry, Ron, Neville, Fred, and George came bounding down the stairs. A few of them were wearing new sweaters, and Harry was carrying a brand new broomstick – a Firebolt. As I went to go stare at it, Hermione immediately went into a sort of panic, saying it might have been jinxed. She got Professor McGonagall, and the head of Gryffindor took it away, saying it would be returned when she verified it was safe.
  3. Everyone stared at her either in disbelief or anger. Harry and Ron teamed up against her and she ran up to her dormitory, crying. I let her go, unsure of what had just occurred. The morning passed without much event. We went down to breakfast in the Great Hall, discussing what we were going to do that day. We decided on a snowball fight outside, and I even invited Draco, who I had seen at the table with us. I figured if he got pelted with snowballs, it was all the better for trying to turn Harry and I in at Hogsmeade. That was, until they divided up teams. "I think it should be boys against girls," Harry said with a grin. Ginny immediately protested. "There's only two of us, and six of you!" she said indignantly. "No, actually three of you. Malfoy's included," he said, snickering. I glared at him, while I noticed Draco tensing up angrily. I still wondered why he had come in the first place, though he had said it was to embarrass Harry. "How about Gryffindors against Slytherins?" Ron suggested smugly. "And Ravenclaws?" I inquired, raising an eyebrow. "Well, you're as good as a Slytherin for inviting him. You're with him," he said, smiling evilly. Unfortunately, everyone seemed to agree with him, except Neville, who offered to be on my team. "Neville, Neville. We Gryffindors have to stick together!" Fred said, slinging his arm around Neville's neck to emphasize. That seemed to decide it. Despite my protests, I ended up on a team with Draco.
  4. We all headed out into the snow, heading towards the field by the Black Lake. I felt somewhat guilty for abandoning Hermione, but I figured I would see her as soon as we had finished. Draco tripped Harry several times with his wand along the way, ensuing a brief duel between the two, which I had to stop myself seeing as the others were cheering Harry on. The Weasley twins insisted on dramatically counting down from ten to start the fight. Of course, they cheated. "Ten...nine...eight...seven...GO!" he shouted, and five snowballs came sailing towards us. Four of them hit Draco, of course, and one of them missed me by an inch. Draco played dirty. He used curses and spells and all sorts of magical tricks to win. I actually hit him a few times myself out of annoyance. Naturally, the Gryffindors started using their wands, too. Once again, I was the mediator. They were all out on the frozen Black Lake, almost completely abandoning snow as a weapon. "Guys, stop!" I shouted, running out towards them. They completely ignored me. "GUYS!" I tried again, but still nothing. "Reducto!" I yelled, pointing my wand at the ice beneath their feet. Huge cracks appeared in the thin surface, immediately dumping Draco, Harry, Ron, and the twins into the lake. Thankfully, Ginny and Neville had stayed out of the fight. I got a lot of shocked stares in response. Ron's face had turned an angry red. "It's Christmas! Can you just get along for one day?" I demanded, and then turned on my heel and stalked towards the castle angrily.
  5. Before I knew it, I was back in the castle, damp from the snow. I heard footsteps running after me. "I'm fine!" I said in an unsteady voice. I turned around. "Oh. Hi, Harry. Ron," I said. They were soaked and shivering, and Ron looked absolutely furious. Harry didn't look angry on the other hand, only somewhat guilty. "What did you d-do that for?" Ron demanded, his teeth chattering wildly. "Well, if you wouldn't have started fighting, I wouldn't have had to dump you in the lake! Consider it payback for Halloween," I said defensively, vaguely remembering his trick with the Hiccough Sweet. "What do you expect? He's a Slytherin!" he shouted in retaliation. "And I'm a Ravenclaw! If you're so biased towards the houses, then why don't you just target me, too?" I demanded. Ron started sputtering nonsense words. It was a good thing I couldn't understand anything through his chattering because I didn't think it was anything too polite.
  6. Before anything got physical, Harry ungracefully pushed Ron away and down the corridor. When he was well on his way elsewhere, Harry returned. "I'm sorry, Ron's just...well, you know Ron. He'll be fine later. We shouldn't have started fighting anyway," he said apologetically. "Thanks, Harry. It's fine; I just wanted to make Christmas fun. I guess it's not a smart idea to put a Slytherin with a bunch of Gryffindors," I said with a slight grin. "Maybe not. But I'm willing to put up with Malfoy if you want me to," he offered. I laughed. "I'm sure the others will like that," I said sarcastically. He grinned in response. "I think they're willing to put up with him, too...if it makes you happy," he said, suddenly a bit shy. I looked around a bit uncomfortably, and then realized we were under some mistletoe. Well, that was a bit too well placed. Harry avoided my eyes awkwardly. "You don't have to...I mean, it's fine..." he said, trailing off nervously. I kissed him lightly on the lips, a brief flicker of guilt crossing my mind at the thought of Oliver. Harry looked astonished, and a bit too pleased. I took a step back, foolishly smiling for a moment. Then I realized how sopping wet Harry was, and jumped at the chance to change the atmosphere. "Here, I'll dry you off," I said, taking my wand and drying his clothes off with a spell. He looked a bit disappointed at my reaction, but we were interrupted a moment later.
  7. "Er...everyone's looking for you two," Neville said awkwardly, having witnessed the entire exchange. I didn't know what to say to him. "Let's go, then," I said, suddenly eager to get away. He looked relieved to escape that situation, and Harry just looked a bit annoyed. We made our way up to Gryffindor Tower together, making idle conversation. Everyone had moved to the Gryffindor common room by then, with the exception of Draco. Instead of being greeted with a bunch of hostility, everyone was quite welcoming, except for Ron, of course. The twins actually congratulated me on my excellent techniques, and forced Ron to apologize to me, which was a very entertaining experience. Hermione even came down later, though Harry and Ron still refused to talk to her. We spent quite a bit of time joking around and then went down for Christmas dinner.
  8. It was an odd experience since we had to eat with the professors. Soon enough, I finished and wandered the corridors for a time. Naturally, I had to run into Draco. He stopped me in my tracks. "You know, I think you should've been in Slytherin," he said, smirking as usual. "No, I think I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be," I said irritably. "Just keep telling yourself that," was his aggravating response. "You're insufferable," I said exasperatedly. "You ought to be nicer to me. Normally, I wouldn't have spent Christmas with a bunch of Gryffindors," he said. "And look how that turned out. So, why did you spend Christmas with a bunch of Gryffindors, then?" I asked, inevitably curious. Now he was the uncomfortable one. "Isn't it obvious? It was because of you," he said flatly. "Me?" I repeated stupidly. "Don't you know yet? Don't you see how all of those Gryffindors look at you? Well, I think you're more suited towards Slytherin," he said, moving closer. I took a step back instinctively, my thoughts jumbling together. I did notice the looks that my friends directed towards me, but I had managed to convince myself that it was just a coincidence. I didn't have any words to counter that, and Draco took his chance. He tilted my head up with his fingers and kissed me lightly. After a few seconds I came to my senses and pushed him away, remembering Oliver again. I was going to have a hard time not feeling guilty when he came back. "I'm nothing like you," I said in a low voice, and strode away without a word.
  9. I was on the verge of tears as I flew down the corridor, racing to get to my own common room. I just needed a nice night alone. Instead, I ran into Neville again. Without a word, I threw my arms around his neck and burst into tears. I wasn't normally one for crying, but I was much too overwhelmed to care at the moment. He just patted my back understandingly, always the friend I needed. "It's all right. I'm sure everyone's over the incident from earlier," he said sympathetically. I laughed through my blurred vision and stepped back. "That's the problem. Everyone's a bit too fine with me at the moment," I said, suddenly giggling uncontrollably. I probably looked a real mess. Neville looked confused, and then seemed to hit a realization. "Oh, you mean...oh," he said, looking at the floor embarrassedly. It was then I realized he was blushing. "You're not going to tell me the same thing, are you?" I asked, my laughter dying down a bit. "If it makes it worse...then no," he mumbled. I hugged him again. "Thank you," I said, smiling as I walked off again. He gave me a weak smile in response. I felt guilty that I had put him on the spot like that, but I had had enough. I just needed a friend at the moment. Christmas just wasn't my time of year, it seemed. Maybe Easter would work instead.
  10. *music826* Well, that was possibly the most unmagical Christmas edition ever. Oh well, I guess. I tried. I hope you enjoyed it anyway, and I've been making more of an effort to include everyone, though sometimes I think I end up a bit biased. If I don't include enough of someone, just tell me. I only plan these as far as I publish, so I'm open to whatever you suggest. I'm going to try to wrap up third year in the next edition. I might just skip over everything that happened with Sirius Black to save time, if that's fine with you.
