Jayden grinned, wanting to kiss him, but being interrupted by Jordan pulling him towards some violinist performing on a small stage in the corner.
-
Chester watched them go, letting them with a small smile. He wanted them to have their best friend time uninterrupted, so he stood and leaned against the food table, taking another sip of his wine to cloud the weird feeling. It only made it worse.
-
Jayden and Jordan hung out by the violin, talking to each other about life, and her new job as a tailor. It felt just like old times. He loved every second of it, until he noticed Chester standing alone. He didn’t look good.
-
Chester watched the people dance. His head pounded in his ears. He shut his eyes tight and heard overlapped, muffled voices in his head.
“Not feeling good, puppy?”
“My poor flower, you’ll feel better soon.”
“Darling, are you alright?”
He snapped his eyes opened and looked around. In the corner of the room stood a figure. His father, covered in blood, skin pierced with glass. He shook his head and rubbed his eyes. It wasn’t real. His father was dead. What the hell was happening to him? -
Jordan took Jayden’s hand to turn him back to her. “Everything okay?”
“No, chester doesn’t look good.” This party was too much for him. Jayden should’ve told him to stay home, he knew how bad parties were for him. “I’m sorry, I have to go check on him, I’ll be back in a second.” -
Chester opened his eyes and looked to where the figure had been standing. Gone. He exhaled softly and downed the rest of his drink, hoping the alcohol would numb some of his worry. He leaned against the wall, figuring he could survive off of cakes and wine until the party was over. That way Jayden could party and enjoy his birthday.
-
Jayden walked up to him. “Hey, you okay?” He asked quietly, hoping it’d calm him down from the party if he was overwhelmed by it. He took his hands.
-
Chester offered a smile and kissed his forehead. ‘I’m all good, darling,’ he said, squeezing his hands. ‘You go dance with Jordan, I just need a moment, then I’ll join you,’
-
“You don’t look good.” Jayden pointed out. “You look handsome as always, but you look really pale and scared. Do you want to go in the hallway for a bit?”
-
‘Yeah, yeah, I might take a break there,’ Chester said, glancing around. No bloody figures. That’s good. ‘I’ll see you in a bit. Don’t worry about me, love, enjoy your day.’
-
Jayden frowned at how anxious his eyes looked. “Come on, we’re getting some fresh air.” He took his hand, starting to walk to the exit.
-
‘Darling, I don’t need you to come with me, I’m really fine,’ Chester said, laughing nervously, but let himself be led. ‘It’s your party, you should enjoy it.’
-
“I’m not going to enjoy it if I know you’re alone and not feeling well.” Jayden walked to the hall, shutting the door behind the two of them. “Is it too overwhelming for you? We can go somewhere quieter, just the two of us.”
-
‘No, it’s not that,’ Chester said, playing with Jayden’s hand. ‘I-I just-‘ Chester cut himself off as he looked down the hallway and he spotted a figure. Astrid, face twisted into a haunting smile that definitely wasn’t human, holding a long golden pole that curved at the end and had small diamonds hanging off it that dripped with blood. ‘Get behind me.’
-
Jayden frowned, staying right next to him. He noticed the pure terror in Chester’s eyes, and looked down the hallway. He couldn’t see anything. “What’s wrong?” He asked, turning to Chester again.
