"I know." I put one of my fingers on the back of his neck, where I had noticed a scar, undoubtebly from his father.

I gently took her hand and pulled it away from the scar.

I sighed. "Why didn't you ever tell anyone?"

I looked away from her. "He would've..." I felt tears in my eyes. "He told me, that if I ever told anyone-" They wee streaming down my face now, and my voice was shaking. "-he'd..."

I wiped the tears off his face with my thumb and hugged him. "Never mind, you don't have to tell me."

I put my face into her shoulder and let a few more tears leak out. "Thank you."

I rubbed his back, wishing I hadn't asked him in the first place. "It's okay..."

I sniffed and sat up, wiping away the tears. I tried to think of a way to push the topic onward, but my mind went blank.

I had a feeling he was at a loss for words, and I felt bad for bringing up the topic at all. I leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek.

I half smiled, or tried to. She seemed troubled. "It's alright."
