"Cool." I said. "But why didn't you talk to anyone else?"

"Other kids don't really like all of this," she pointed to her ears and tail, "and then on top of that I'm adopted and only have Dad. Adults treat me like I have a disease."

"Really? Because the look suits you well. And sorry aboutthe adopted thing. That must be hard to deal with. And the adults are stupid then." I said, rubbing her arms this time.

She shrugged. "It doesn't really bother me. And thanks."

"Wow. You must really be a strong girl to go through all that." Derrick smiled.

She blushed, smiling a bit.

He sat there, still holding Evelyn close and rubbing up and down her arms. He smiled a little.

The purring faded, but was still there.

"Just wondering..." Derrick started. "Were you like excited to meet me?"

She shrugged. "It didn't really matter to me, since I didn't know you..."

"Yeah, I thought so." he sighed. "My dad kept making a big deal about it though."

"Well, they hadn't seen each other in forever... so I'm guessing it was a big deal." She looked up at him.

"I guess.." he looked into her eyes.

She smiled at him.

He stroked her cheek softly, and bit his lip.
