  1. I looked at Christofer for approval. "Are you going to blackmail us?" Ash asked. "If so, I'd rather not." The mermaid flicked her tail out of the water and floated on her back. "Maybe, maybe not. It depends on how bad your secret is. That is my only payment: take it or leave it." She disappeared underwater and then bopped her head out again. Christofer nodded. "I'll go first then." He bent over and cupped his mouth into the mermaid's ear. It made me a little jealous, for some reason. She giggled and then gestured him to go ahead. He looked back at me and smiled. Then he jumped into the water, and swam his way into the cave. "I'll go next," I volunteered. But what secret did I have? I have a lot of secrets, but I've at least told one person of them. I crouched down on the ground and did the same thing Christofer did, telling the mermaid, a stranger, a person whom I don't even know the name of, a secret that nobody has ever known. She wore a solemn expression, as if expecting something more juicy, and motioned me to go ahead.
  2. I planted my toes on the border of water and ground, took a deep breath, and jumped. A cold surge shocked through me as if I were trapped in ice. I opened my eyes to see the mermaid's tail, and started kicking towards the rocky trench where a hatchet was hidden on the top. I began swimming faster as I was losing oxygen. I gripped the handle of the hatchet and pulled. I saw Christofer's hand stretched out for me, so I took it and got out, gasping for air. Shivering, Christofer helped me to my feet. His chest was bare, his shirt hanging limply on a railing. I hadn't noticed Gumbo and James standing there. "Hello, love," Gumbo greeted with a smirk. "Enjoying the view?" I blushed. "Here's a blanket," Christofer said, James handing him one. He wrapped it over my shoulders and smiled. "Where are the guards?" I chattered. "It's safe here," James said. "Oath has to assign a new group of them after every Relocation and it takes him a day or so." I nodded and then took a seat on the ground. Christofer sat down next to me while Ash burst through the hatchet. "What was your secret?" I asked curiously. "If I told you it wouldn't be much of a secret anymore, would it?"
  3. I laughed. "That bad, huh?" Christofer nudged me on the shoulder playfully. "I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours." I grinned. "Alright. Later, then. I"m still mad at you." He faked offense on his face. "Me? Why?" I slapped him on the arm. "For giving me such a hard time back in the tunnel, you dummy. 'I know you'll make the right decision'. You could have like, said something to persuade me like Michael did or at least something else rather than just stand there like you didn't give a crap." Christofer laughed. "Yeah, but you made the right decision, didn't you?" Alex came through the hatchet, flipping his hair out of his face. "I guess so. But you were freaking out." Christofer got up and helped me to my feet, adjusting the blanket. "You know me too well." We walked over to meet the group to discuss what to do now that we were here. "So what's the plan?" Christofer asked. Alex smirked. "Maybe you could put your shirt back on first. That would serve rather helpful."
  4. Christofer laughed mockingly and put his still damp shirt on. "You're just jealous you don't have a six pack like I do," he joked. Alex lifted up his shirt, proving him wrong. "Don't go there, pretty boy." Maybe if we weren't in a lair of a psychotic man, I would like this. But we were, unfortunately. "Guys, I think we'll have time to compare and contrast after we do this. How about that?" Gumbo jumped in. "The girl is right. James knows where your parents are being held captive, so _____ should go with him. Ash and I will take care of the guards, while Christofer and Alex: you two should go spy on Oath and see if you can gather any information. Plan?" Alex rose his hand. "Spy on Oath?" Christofer tossed him a look. "More like take out Michael first and then stall Oath for some time." Gumbo nodded. "I've missed you dearly, Christofer. You seem to be the only bloody one who truly understands me." Oh shut it, Gumbo.
  5. "James, Christofer, and I know where Oath's office is, so we'll meet outside or just burst in. Good luck." Gumbo nodded at Ash and they started running stealthily to the hallway. James gestured me to follow him. I gave Alex and Christofer a hesitant look, which Christofer seemed to catch. He took hold of my arms and looked me deeply in the eyes. "You're going to be okay. I trust James. If anything happens, I want you to go with Alex and get out." He kissed my forehead and let go as if this was the last time we were going to see each other again. He stepped back as Alex stepped forward. He gave a small smile and kissed my forehead while playing with my fingers. "See you later." With that, James and I, and him and Christofer, departed our opposite ways, awaiting our tasks ahead.
  6. I followed James around corners and bends until he came to a stop behind a pillar. He peeked out and whispered, "The dungeon is through that black door on the very end of the hall. There are six guards there that we have to get through." I poked my head out from the pillar and saw the guards in that red robe that I hated so much. "So what do we do?" Suddenly I heard a ruckus coming from the hall. James and I exchanged looks and then gave it a look. Ash and Gumbo were there, Ash in threes, slashing the guards silently, as not to attract anymore attention. The slit their necks effortlessly, laying the bodies gently on the ground before aiming at another. Sooner or later, all the guards were down in a heap. James and I came out from our hiding place, giving Ash and Gumbo a quick nod as they ran someplace else. 'Not much longer,' the voice whispered. We jogged down the hallway, James holding a golden key in his hand. He opened the black door and closed it when we were both in. We spiraled down rickety stairs and jogged past rows of empty cellars. Towards the end, I could hear muffled voices and murmurs. In several cells were people I remembered were my parents' friends. They clung to the bars as we passed, pleading to be freed. There were collars on their necks, probably to retain them from using their powers. "You're not going to free them?" I asked James, trying to keep up with him. "I only brought one key, and that's for your parents' cell. I'll free them all later, don't worry."
  7. At the last cell, two figures lay sprawled on the ground, weal and barely alive. James jammed the key in and turned. The cell opened, my parents' faces looking up at the disturbance. Their expression changed when they saw me. "Mom, dad!" I ran up to them and crouched on the ground, giving them hugs. "How did you get here?" Mom asked weakly. They both sat up with a groan and hugged me with their bony arms. Suddenly, James was thrown into the cell, the cell door slamming behind him. I looked up aghast. Michael was on the other side of the bars, smiling down on us like a sadistic mental patient. He showed us the key and tucked it in his pocket. "You little b--ch," he spat out. Then he walked away, his footsteps echoing off the walls.
  8. When I got out of my shocked state, I got up late and gripped the bars so tight I thought they would burn off and melt through my hands as easily as sand. "Well you suck at kissing!" I screamed, hoping he could hear. "B-ast-rd." My parents stood up, leaning on the wall for support. They looked awful. Their cheekbones were sullen, their eyes looked too big on their face, their skin almost as white as paper, and their clothes almost too big for them when they were a perfect fit the last time I saw them. "I didn't hear him," muttered James, massaging his head that he hit when he was thrown against the wall. "I swear." I sighed and nodded. "It's okay. I'll get us out of here. All of us."
  9. Christofer hoped they would run into Michael. Just so that he could kick his ass. He had enough of him, and he was going to end it here. What better place and time to do it but now? "Can I help beat him up?" Alex asked. It occurred to Christofer he forgot to block out his thoughts. "Only if you let me finish him off." Alex nodded. "Deal." They were hiding against a wall while Gumbo and Ash sniped some of the guards. "So Oath is in that door with the brown doors?" Christofer looked again and nodded. "I think so. At least, that's where James said he is." Alex noticed that Christofer didn't have a weapon and remembered his extra dagger. He removed it from its sheath in his belt and handed it over to him. Christofer took it with a small nod. "Thanks." Then all sound effects stopped. "Coast clear," Ash called out.
  10. Alright, I said to myself. This is my time to shine. If I can use my power on accident, then I damn better be able to do it on purpose. Of course, if that maniac inside me decides to try and kill me again. "Protect my parents," I told James. I did a few stretches just to stall some time and closed my eyes. I focused all my energy on the cell door and pictured it being ripped open or blown away. 'Trying to be the hero again?' I ignored it. 'It's not going to work. In the end, you'll see.' I pushed the voice out of my head (metaphorically), and squeezed my eye lids shut, so tight I felt as if my eyeballs were going to fly out of my sockets. 'One time, human. Just one time. I just want to see the end. After that, I'll be in control For now, one time. Just once.' Suddenly, the cell door crumbled into millions of pieces. The sound was too grand to just be from that one though. I looked out and saw that all the doors collapsed into a pile of rubble. My parents looked at me flabbergasted. "Your powers...," my mom started. I shushed her and looked at James. "They're too weak to fight. Bring to safety out of the Underbelly. I don't care how, just do it." James nodded as if I were in command and took my parents by the arms to guide them out. I jogged out of the cell to go meet the others when somebody grabbed my arm. I was about to grab an arrow when I saw who it was and stopped. "Auntie Lisa?"
  11. They were a foot away from the brown door when a figure jumped from above, blocking it. Christofer held Alex back, recognizing immediately who it was. "Michael," he greeted with a grin. "I hope you had fun being me for a while." Michael took out a spiked club. "Oh, I did. Your girlfriend is too dramatic though. I don't know how you can deal with her." Christofer and Michael circled around, Alex on the outskirts, as it was obvious that this was a personal fight between the two of them. "Love can do wonders," Christofer expressed, pointing his dagger which looked lame next to the gigantic club. He looked at Alex with a sort of message in his eyes, and Alex got it after a few seconds of thinking. All he had to do was wait. "Never loved, so I wouldn't know," Michael said with a hearty laugh. "Although it was fun to mess with her emotions. You should have seen the look on her pretty face when she first saw me. She's pretty hot, you know. Can I borrow her sometime? She looks fun in bed."
  12. Alex almost stabbed the guy himself. Christofer stopped in his tracks. He gave a laugh. "F--k you." He threw, aiming for Michael's face. Michael swerved away, avoiding it with a grin. He swung his club around, and charged at Christofer, not realizing that he was holding the dagger in the air. Michael almost ran into the door. He looked up, confused for a moment, and saw Christofer just floating in the air. Then, he started floating upwards too. Not used to the change of gravity, he wobbled in the air like a fish out of water. That's when Alex took his chance. Using his telekinetic power, the doors swooshed open as Alex stumbled in, his sword out and ready. The doors shut behind him, even though he willed them not to. He peered around and saw no Oath, but just a girl with her back facing him. She turned around and smiled when she saw him. Alex almost passed out. He saw her brown hair that he loved to run his fingers through; her loving eyes; her beautiful face; her soft and fragile looking body that just made him want to protect her with all his life. "Hello, Alex," she said with her voice that he once said would give up anything just to hear again. Alex's voice was barely a whisper when he said her name. "Misty."
