The Hunters (part 1)

Quiz Image

Hey y'all :). I bring you this first part of my story because I'm testing it to see if it's good enough, and I need your help. So please tell me what you thought. Thank you.

I hope you enjoy reading this. I won't give anything away though because I want to keep it a surprise. But you all can give me suggestions because I'm probably gonna need them.

  1. What is your age?
  2. What is your gender?
  1. "Hold." My partner, Kyle, whispered. My crossbow was aimed at the creature we've been hunting for weeks. We were crouched behind a dumpster that smelled of rotting meat and horse dung: a troll's favorite meal. The creature has been in our grasps before, but we had to stop chasing when it stabbed Kyle's arm with a poison knife. Kyle was my best friend and partner. We've known each other for twelve years, ever since we were four. Both of our parents were killed by vampires: nasty creatures with razor like teeth. Ever since then, we've been trying to hunt down and kill every last one of them, which may seem like a lot for a four year old, but we didn't start killing until we were twelve. Of course, we also kill other creatures- like trolls, werewolves, ghosts, and tricky, evil fairies- when someone's in trouble, but we're always looking for vampires. The troll shifted, aligning itself in my line of fire. "Now!" Kyle said, and my finger immediately pulled the trigger, sending the arrow straight through its eye. Some blood splattered, but none of it got on us.
  2. "Nice shot, Skylar." Kyle turned his head and smiled. His short, messy blonde hair shined in the moonlight and his deep green eyes stared into my bright blue ones. "Thanks." I smiled back and we both stood up. I walked over to the troll and pulled out my arrow. "We should be getting back soon. Our 'parents' will be worried." Kyle put air quotes around "parents". "I highly doubt that your parents will be worried." I said. "Can you say the same about yours?" He asked, already knowing the answer. My foster parents weren't the best people in the world. They were very strict about every little thing that I do and they'd slap me if I got a B on a test. "No." I sighed, crossing my arms. "Exactly. Now let's go." We ran towards his car and he dropped me off at my house.
  3. I silently climbed the side of my house by using the ivy that grew there. I hauled myself up into the window, quietly ran to my bed, unlocked the hidden door under it, shoved my crossbow inside, and then climbed on top of my bed, letting sleep consume me. In the morning, I took a shower, and put on a black skirt with a pink short sleeved shirt tucked into it. I then put on a pair of pink converse, tied my black hair up in a ponytail, and put on my fake black glasses. My whole outfit was part of the job. Kyle and I move around the country and switch schools about every year. Each time we would switch schools, we would switch parts too. One of us would act all high and mighty and fit in with the popular crowd, and the other would act like an outcast, scoping out the school from the outside, and try to blend in. It was my turn to be the outcast, and in this school, outcasts were people that were really smart. I grabbed a peach on my way out the door, and began the ten minute walk to my school.
  4. Reaching the school, I saw the usual business of high schoolers talking to each other in their normal groups. Kyle was sitting on the small concrete boundary around the school, along with his girlfriend Chloe. She was sitting on his lap and obviously flirting with him by giggling like an idiot, playing with his hand, and flipping her curly brown hair out of her face. I adjusted my glasses-a signal for "hey". He scratched the side of his head-also a signal for "hey". I lowered my eyes to the ground and climbed the front stairs, making a beeline for my first period class: Chemistry. I took my seat in the back of the classroom. A little while later, students poured in, and filled the room. Kyle came in and took his seat next to me, by the window. Chloe followed him and sat in front of me. "Did you hear? Mr. Craine had the flu, so he's not gonna be here for a couple days." Chloe said while turning around to face Kyle. "Really? Do you know who it is?" He asked. "I have no idea, but we're about to find out." She said and turned back around when a woman walked into the room.
  5. "Good morning class. My name is Ms. Flynn. I'll be your teacher for the next couple days while your teacher is out. First step: role call. Please raise your hand, or say 'here'. Gary Alan?" Ms. Flynn asked and Gary raise his hand. "Chloe Brandy?" "Here." Chloe said. A few names later, she reached Kyle's name. "Oliver Stanley?" She asked. "Here." Kyle said. We had to use fake names each time we switched schools, so no one could know who we really are. "Mckenzie Tailor?" I raised my hand. "Great. Since everyone is here, you can all finish your lab work that your teacher assigned you. I believe from these instructions," she held up a sheet of paper, "you are all outside, testing different kinds dirt to see which one is the best at growing plants." We all grabbed our stuff and headed outside. There, we scattered across the school's property to get the different dirt samples. Kyle and I walked away from the rest of the group, and to a twisted looking tree that stood near a wire fence.
  6. "Remember the tree that looked exactly like this in Maine?" Kyle asked. "Yeah. It was when we were working that case about that one ghost who would possess people and make them think that they were royalty. And it would make them go around beheading people." I recalled. "Remember when it possessed you?" He laughed. "That wasn't funny. I almost cut off your head." I smiled. "Whatever you say. Lady, Skylar." Kyle took my hand, bowed, and kissed my hand. I threw my head back and laughed before playfully pushing him away. "Come on now. Let's go get that sample, so we can hurry up and finish the lab." I said.
  7. "Okay. Would you hand me the test tube?" He asked and stuck out his hand. "I thought you grabbed them." I said. "No...." He trailed off. "Well, I wasn't going to get them. That's work for a peasant." I teased, making him smile. "I'll go ask the teacher if I can go back to the classroom and get them." I said and walked towards the front of the school. "What do you think you're doing?" A voice from my left said. I looked that way and saw Chloe standing there with her arms crossed. "What are you talking about?" I asked, confused. "I know what you're trying to do." She told me, and the look of confusion on my face made her roll her blue eyes. "Stay away from my Oliver. I don't want to see you ever near him again, or I will make you wish that you were ever born. Got it, nerd?" She put her index finger in my face. "I got it." I pretended to be scared, and my thoughts drifted to last week when my foster parents hit me because I left a dirty sock on the laundry room floor, which was the last time-out of many-that I wished I was never born. I hurried off before she could say anything, and got the teacher's permission to get the test tubes. I grabbed the test tubes from the dimly lit room, and headed back outside.
  8. And that is where I'll leave it.
  9. Please tell me what you thought, I would really appreciate it.
  10. Thank you. And goodbye. :)
