Is Your Character a Mary Sue? | Comments

I got a 23 percent, but at the same time some of the questions were a bit hard to answer for my character Loverian. Not because I dont know her traits or anything but because of her past being a bit complicated. I know that most people dont believe this about there OC but I kinda believe them for being really old due to the fact that they had to live through many lives. Like when you put your character in animes and TV shows its like your character lived that life for the soul purpose of making sure everything is ok, then leaving it by naturally dying (or insane death, which ever you prefer lol). Once they die there, they come back to there old one to spend time with family and friends for a life while staying the age they choose. I do believe that they can get up to millions of years old before they kick the bucket and that only a few types of metal can kill them and give them scars. Just a funny theory I like sticking too

23 % the only reason that she isn't human is because none of the characters are human. They are fursonas, lie the animated cats and dogs on YouTube? Also the question "How many main characters fall in love with your character" no one does. She's kinda ugly and hated by everyone. But 23 % is pretty good.

I had gotten a 31% on mine.My character is basically a demon but doesn't have that many powers.She also has a scythe for some reason- maybe she found it idk- but anyways she just has like a couple of friends and one of them is her boyfriend,I feel like changing her character a bit though

A smug ISTP. Russian too, she has three sisters and four brothers.

Black hair, fluffy in the back. Mousy brown eyes, droopy eyelids, the smug type. ( kind of like Neito Monoma. Just kinda of. ) She's rarely angry, but when she is, it's the destructive type. ( I don't wanna say this, but she has big breasts. *wheeze* ) She is kinda based off of Fubuki from One Punch Man. He hero costume is similar to Fubuki's outfit too.

Messy room, bad at math, trouble focusing. Svetlana think's it's funny provoking people, especially one explosive student.

I got an 18% percent on my guy lol. His name is Ricky Rose, changed from Taylor Abbott. He's an 1980's rockstar. Lead singer, frontman, plays piano, and writes music. He's a college dropout because the band he shared with his brother got attention by the time he was 16, so he quit, thinking he wouldn't need it. It took another year and a half because they had to hire a new drummer, however.

Ricky himself is quite attractive. Porcelain skin with grey eyes and naturally dark red hair, not to mention sharp jaw and high cheekbones. But his personality is what often turns people away. He's an a--hole. He starts fights and arguments for seemingly no reason, goes f---ing crazy occasionally and his bandmates have to hold him back.

His primary reasoning for his behavior isn't used as an excuse, but it's still very important to what makes him tick. He was abused as a child, mentally and sexually, and it basically has him still acting like a child despite being an adult, clinging onto whatever childhood he had left. He's a very angry, hurt person who often lashes out as a way of protecting himself. He was diagnosed with manic depression (or bipolar disorder in our terms) but often refuses to take the pills he's prescribed unless manic episodes are too severe to just let them happen. After that, then he's too depressed to even move and it can take weeks to get him back on track.

People hate him because he's an a--hole. He knows that. He knows he's horrible to people. But he's just too afraid to open up. Too afraid of losing what happiness he could possibly gain from someone. He doesn't think he deserves love. He doesn't think he deserves life. He's a very dark character, but he's the reality for a large percentage of the rock and roll life. He dies in a hotel room miles from home with a needle in his neck. And unlike Nikki Sixx, he wasn't brought back.

He's very bleak, but there's still far more to his character than I described here. He's actually quite a fan favorite

This is a persona for a role play, I got 20% but I just thought i could use your expertise.

Long story short :

Her name is Alixe Kim, but she goes by X (TEN, in Roman numbers) and she is part of a gang and has to hide her real identity. She is the sister of the leader of the gang,shes younger by 4 years. They both grew up with their parents until X was about 8yo. Her father was betting and played a lot so he made loads of debts in a casino, bad luck the casino was owned by the mafia. To pay up, he started working for the mafia. Xs mother left because the father was messing up to much, leaving her children behind as she also wanted to be with another man. X will never forgive her.

Later on when X was 12yo, her dad got shot during a deal, but he still owned some money. The mafia sent the kids to a sort of foster mom that worked for them so that they would still pay up the bills (mules under 18yo are much appreciated). Through the years, X and her brother made their way in the gang so that at the end of their 20s brother was the gangs leader and X a important element.

X has a great upper body strength as she trained a lot for the gang, she is a gymnast. She can also use guns etc but she is better at messing with ppls mind. She lies a lot, defrauds, use her feminine charms etc She is a very good dealer thanks to this. She also has a hot temper and is easily started when someone delays in payment. She seems to enjoy herself in criminal activities but deep down she feels empty and unsatisfied with her life.

She also has a boyfriend, part of the gang, who is a jerk but doesnt mistreat her. Just a macho dude who cheats kinda often, she will dump him at some point.

Hmmm... Not really sure about that. I checked everywhere if someone believed it she's a Mary Sue, and none of them said so. I also don't, sHe's grEat! She's a warrior cats character called Dawncloud. She left windclan because of her mental disability, I'm not sure how it's called but it's that you're afraid to have contact with any other people. She didn't knew she was pregnant at that time. So she born her kits, everything is good. Until the twolegs start poisoning the rabbits. Dawncloud accidentally feeds one to her kit, wish dies. She is heartbroken, but she can't leave her other kits without a parent. In the great journey, she just follows them. One kit didn't survive it. After they reached the new territory, she spies around, looking for a new territory. but then, she sees something traumatic. It is this Tom, who always had a crush on her since they were little, getting chased by dogs! He tries climbing up a tree, but windclan cats aren't made for climbing. So the dogs pull him and start ripping his stomach open. Dawncloud could hear the loud pain scream. He manages to escape, and looks around to try to find a place to hide. He sees Dawncloud hiding in the bushes. his eyes teared up, while he whispered "I thought you were dead..." He continued running as fast as he could, but the wound stopped him. He got slower and slower after every step, until he just laid down and waited for the dogs to kill him. They did. After that, Dawncloud felt so responsible for his death, because she didn't even try to help him. A few sunrises after, she tries searching for new territory to live with her only alive son. She crosses windclan territory, and sees a patrol passing by. The leader of the patrol, who also was the leader of the clan, Berrystar, ran up to her, biting Into her neck, intensely whispering "you killed my son, you killed my son" over and over again, leaving Dawncloud to die Infront of her kit. I wouldn't really consider her as a Mary Sue :/

27% wow, Raizei is my oc who died at the age of 14 and cause of his death was he was pushed off a building by his dad's homophobic gf because his sexuality is gay- and he's 21 yrs old now and ofc he's an angel. His hair is red and white in the bottom, yes he's a Countryhumans oc, his eyes are light grey, he's a positive boi. He has astraphobia and he has a lil sister who mostly visits him and his mom's grave most of the time and my other ocs are like siblings to him.

I have a total of 10 or 11 ocs and they're all like children to me.

There's a group of creatures called the Ohusakus. They've almost went extinct and seeing one is extremely rare, there's about 10 left on earth.

The Ohusakus are unique for their skin color, **blood,** unnatural ear and their **flower.**

**About their flower**

They're born with their flower, which are different colors depending on their personality.

It's stuck in their mouth and they cannot pull it out/get rid of it, I'll elaborate below. The flower basically makes them mute until they find their *soulmate.* (must be human)

When they find their soulmate, the flower will rot and disappear through the Ohusakus sleep. (The soulmate will immediately fall in love upon seeing the Ohusaku they're matched with.)

However.. if someone were to rip the flower out.

**If the flower is ripped out.**

If the flower is ripped out by the Ohusaku or another creature, they'll start to get a patch on their skin and they'll throw up flowers, along with weirdly colored blood. This will only stop if their soulmate finds them and falls in love, which is rare for Ohusakus who have their flowers pulled out.

**Their blood**

Their blood is why they almost went extinct, people would relentlessly pull out their flowers, causing them to die of stress and decay. They'd collect their blood because it helps create multiple medications.

**The character.**

My oc is Kyoko, she's one of the only Ohusakus remaining. A human pulled out her flower and she's on the verge of dying, she travels the world in hopes she'll find her soulmate to save her. She's got the pink flower, as a sign of hope, love and forgiveness. She's 14 and extremely forgetful, she forgives people easily.

Huh, I thought my mer-person prince, Kipper, would be more gary stu (I think that's the male version?) Than just 27%. He's got a rather sad backstory and ends up traveling into another dimension to hide from the fact he's next in line for the throne (His father dies, his mother is depressed and never talks to him, and his older brother is a huge jerk towards him) I would explain more but I doubt anyone cares haha, if you're curious about him, my discord is Galactic_Pawz #0772, so just ask me on that.

I got like 23% and I know exactly why. He has one very cliche trait that everyone seems to role there eyes at, as well as his past, but both have very good explanations. His name is Ikari, he is sixteen and an anthropomorphic Jackalope. He grew up with his parents, his mother who was way too nice, and his father who was very cold and never praised him. He fought people growing up to try and gain his fathers approval, and gave up on his mother as she was always proud. So he had daddy issues. He tried to fight an opponent who was stronger then him and got stabbed, causing him to nearly die, however, a young iPhones boy, whos mother was secretly a witch, and whos father was an alcoholic, and died by getting hit by a transport truck, gave him the necklace his mother gave to him because she said it would protect him, and he thought, as a six year old, that it could protect the dying jackalope. Little did he know, this mother had bewitched the necklace to protect whoever was in need, and Ikari needed it, so it brought him back to life. The necklace binders with him, so it wouldnt help anyone else. Ikari discovered that if he removes the necklace, he would die, so he is forced to take the child with him, despite being a loner, as Kento will not leave his mothers necklace. Ikari grows to be sort of a father figure to Kento, despite only being 13-16 throughout the storyline. Ikari is grumpy and pushes others away, he is also very arrogant, but seems to have a soft spot for Kento. The necklace allows him to make physical shapes from energy he can generate. He can make any physical object from this energy, and shift the energy into anything hed like. However, this energy is penetrable, and has a range of how far it can go. He also cant cast spells, turn people into things, heal etc. He could however make a giant energy hand or a sword etc. He can not hold said items, the just float, and are genie like, but when used, function as solids. When he has this necklace on, he can not

My character is a demon called Jay Jay, whos original form is a sword. (literally) He serves his wielder, (Who is an extremely powerful demon) and basically befriends his victim and then kills them and their family. He is charming, witty and cunning and his appearance and name is whatever his victim will like. He does his best to serve his master and wants his appreciation, but is always scoffed at. In the end he turns good and sacrifices himself to kill his master. I honestly expected a higher mary sueness.

I chose my character Apollyon, who I am working super hard on his backstory.. whoops. At least he's 73% not a Gary Sue, so I still passed :

(I believe the reasons he might be considered a Gary Sue is his mismatched purple and black eyes, the fact that he's 'immortal' to an extent, and that he is a king)

I got 17%. I used a fan oc for this (bfb oc)

they are a division algebralien who is very quiet and sensitive.

they are short (about the size of x) and are a bluish purple color. they like taking naps and drawing. they prefer to be alone near a nice view.

Ots a cat. Its a fluffy 8cm cat that have moth wings. He has 6 legs and a tail that makes him 12cm. He is very fluffy and very cute. The fur is white with hints of light purple. The eyes are black like if a cat is supper concentrated on a target, to contrast the purple, the eye color(apart from the balck) is dry green

The OC/Fursona (don't bash me for that) Is called Avi Yan, a play on words for Avian, because she's an American Robin. Yes, that's kinda cheesy but that's okay. Apparently, she's 19% a Mary Sue. That's not bad, at least for a character who stays inside her house all day, is almost always on the computer, and only goes outside once a week. Avi's obsessed with a fictional character to the point where she made a religion about them. Yes, that's what I do. This stupid-ass bird acts exactly like me, except she's less closeted about it. f---.

I got 15%

My oc is Abbie. She is basically a clumsy, shy, naive, and optimistic kid. The only thing tragic about her is that her dad is basically a manic and that she has lung disease-

She has blue eyes and platinum blonde hair, as well as peach skin. She only has one dude who has a crush on her and she is practically oblivious about it rip

For the most part, she's basically a happy little ray of sunshine who has many flaws to work on. Her life is pretty plain and she's okay with that.

All talk aside, she is mah bby ;w;

Right. So, my character is a petty sadsack that compensates for a childhood of isolation by being so overly dramatic and attention seeking it causes humongous inconveniences for everyone else; amongst her hobbies includes swindling money, hoarding data and emotionally manipulating others.

She's also a humongous coward with a cruel streak a mile wide, and revels in the idea of shoving the blame onto someone else. She's quick witted, outwardly charming, but lacks any meaningful connections because of an inability to realistically sympathize with others.

16%. Not bad.

Anyways. This test is more about whether the character is overbloated with information and less about whether they are a Mary Sue. None of these aspects, individually, are actively terrible - the problem only comes when an author tries to shove so many of them into a single vessel that the reader becomes disorientated with what themes the character is supposed to represent.

And some of the questions are just petty. "Is your character overweight?" "Do they have a disability?" "Does your character have purple eyes?"

Really. Treating these things are inherently good / bad in terms of character design is ridiculous, since they are all physical features that have nothing to do with the character's personality. If Harry Potter was an overweight, schizophrenic dweeb with purple eyes he'd still be the same mean spirited b------, but he wouldn't be a Mary Sue. Inversely, if you put the qualities on, say, anyone from Twilight, yes! They would be Mary Sues, because Twilight is written with the English capabilities of a bobcat s---ting on a discarded typewriter.

So in short, this quiz isn't an accurate representation of what a Mary Sue is - some questions have their merit - but the things the quizmaker labels as "Good" or "Bad" don't actually have any impactual weight on a character as a whole.

Tl;DR: This is not a Mary Sue Quiz. It is a "Is your character overbloated with conflicting themes + Ideas, Quiz.
