‘Hello,’ Maeve said, shifting on each foot. ‘… how are you?’

Lavender got out of her bed, wrapping maeve in the tightest hug. “Hi.” She mumbled, not answering her question.

Maeve relaxed a little. She hugged her back tightly, burying her face in her shoulder. ‘I’m sorry,’ she mumbled.

Lavender shook her head. “I don’t want to hear it. If anyones sorry, it’s me. I knew that stupid conversation would bother you, and I asked the question anyway.”

‘It’s not your fault I’m a princess. If I could, I’d be normal and the press wouldn’t ever bother us ever again,’ Maeve mumbled, arms tightening slightly around her.

Lavender pulled away gently, cupping Maeve’s chin in her hands. “It’s not your fault.” She felt awful. She was the reason Maeve wished she was normal. What kind of partner does that?

‘It’s not supposed to be your thing to deal with! It’s supposed to only affect me!’ Maeve said, leaning into her touch.

“I’m your girlfriend. I share the s---ty stuff you have to deal with. It’s my job.” Lavender pulled her closer gently,

Maeve held her tightly, letting her. ‘I don’t want you to hate hanging out with me,’ she mumbled. ‘The reporters won’t stop unless we stop being seen with each other.

Lavender frowned. “What are you talking about?”

‘I don’t know! I feel bad for being around you because you hate the press and the press hates giving us privacy!’

Lavender was so mad at herself. She was worrying Maeve, and making her feel like it’d be better to not be around each other. “I-I’m sorry.” Lavender didn’t know what else to say.

‘It’s not you fault, it’s the existence of royalty and the journalists,’ Maeve mumbled.

“I’m not mad that you’re royalty.” Lavender looked her in the eye. “I love you, and if that means I have to love the existence of royalty and journalists, then I do.”

Maeve looked at her, faltering. She leaned into her touch. ‘I love you. So much,’ she said.
