Jordan smiled and pulled him out, shutting the door after him. ‘Promise. C’mon, let’s go take a walk in the garden.’
-
“Okay.” Jayden followed her reluctantly.
-
Jordan took his hand and interlaced their fingers. ‘How’s your life been?’
Meanwhile, in the human library, Oliver was browsing books. He’d stayed up all night analysing Chester’s saliva, and the results weren’t ideal. Astrid walked in, smirking. ‘Hey. You’re Chester’s friend, right?’
Oliver glanced at him and glared. ‘What’s it to you?’ -
Jayden watched their hands. “What are you doing?” He asked quietly. He couldn’t help but be worried about the press. He doubted they’d be here, but the headlines of him and Jordan certainly wouldn’t be a picnic.
-
‘What do you mean? I’m hanging out with my best friend,’ Jordan chuckled, nudging him.
‘You must be awfully worried about Chester,’ Astrid said with a smirk, walking up to him. ‘I saw him leaving the party. He looked so… distressed.’
‘Food poisoning,’ Oliver said briskly. Astrid walked to his side and knocked the book out of his hands. It clattered to the floor.
‘Oops. He looked so scared… must’ve been more than that,’ Astrid chuckled, standing behind Oliver and putting his hands on his shoulders. -
“Why are you holding my hand?” Jayden asked. “I don’t want to be in another cheating scandal…” he chuckled, letting go of her hand.
-
Jordan frowned slightly, linking arms with him. ‘We used to hold hands all the time!’
Oliver shrugged off his hands. ‘For a homophobe, you’re being awfully touchy towards a guy,’ he said, bending down to pick up the book.
Astrid pouted and grabbed a book from Oliver’s pile, flipping through it. ‘You’re dodging the question, doc.’
‘Piss off, Astrid,’ Oliver said, opening the book and not sparing him a second glance.
Astrid sighed and put the book down, opened on the page he’d been looking at. ‘If you say so.’ -
“Yeah, but that’s before I got a boyfriend.” Jayden pointed out. “I’m sorry, but things are different now.”
-
Jordan frowned, pulling him a little closer. ‘You’ve changed a lot, Jay. I didn’t believe Astrid when he told me, but…’ She faltered for a moment. ‘What happened to the carefree Jay I used to know?’
Oliver watched him go, glaring. He glanced down at the book Astrid had left and skimmed the page for a moment. His eyes widened and he put down the book he’d been holding. -
Jayden looked down. “He became king and had to grow up.” He mumbled. He knew how to be fun, though. He was still cool. Totally.
-
(Totally)
‘Maybe you should stop being king if it’s making you like this,’ Jordan said. ‘You used to have fun! Remember when we climbed up the castle walls and lit fireworks? Or when climbed onto the castle roof and did the same thing? Why can’t we have fun like that again?’ -
“We can still light fireworks.” Jayden offered. He couldn’t just stop being a king.”it’s just light out, so we can’t do that right now.”
-
‘It wouldn’t be the same and you know it,’ Jordan said, frowning.
