“He had some red wine. I don’t know if he had anything else though, I was talking to a friend instead of paying attention.”
-
‘Hmm. Maybe the wine had chemicals that humans are immune to, and amplified his condition?’ Oliver thought aloud, scratching his stubble. ‘Is it possible it was poisoned?’
-
Maeve looked at Oliver with fear and anger in her eyes. Jayden almost didn’t understand the question because of how he didn’t expect it. “I-I suppose it would be possible.” He mumbled after a moment of thought.
-
‘Dumb question, there’s always a possibility,’ Oliver pulled out a wipe from his pocket and wiped some drool that had escaped Chester’s lips. ‘I’ll examine this for any ingredients in the wine that may have affected him. From there we’ll theoretically be able to find out a cure,’ he said, folding the tissue and tucking it in his jacket. ‘The beginning of the hallucinations should have been gradual, not enough to make him this distressed. Unless, well, the chemical thing.’
-
Jayden held Chester a little closer. He couldn’t think about that possibility. It made his stomach turn. “Okay. Thank you.”
-
Maeve glared at Oliver. Oliver looked at her and shrugged. She huffed and got up, grabbing his arm. ‘I’ll see you when I’ve got the results,’ Oliver said.
‘Tell Chester he better not die of poisoning,’ Maeve said. They disappeared. -
“I will.” Jayden said, but she’d already left. He turned to Chester, playing with his hair gently. He hoped he wasn’t poisoned. Please, please don’t be poisoned.
-
(I’m gonna go ahead and cutely ts)
The next morning, Jordan was loudly knocking on the door. ‘Jayden? Jayden, wake up!’ -
(Yes quing go ahead)
Jayden was still snuggled up to Chester. He hadn’t bothered to change out of his tuxedo, not wanting to wake up Chester in the night by moving. He slowly got out of bed and opened the door. “Hi. What’s up?” -
Jordan was wearing pajamas. ‘Hey, Jay. Are you okay after last night?’ she asked, glancing over his shoulder at Chester, who was stirring.
-
“Yeah, I’m okay. Chester isn’t, though. His doctor is worried about him.”
-
‘I see. Let him rest, how about you and I go for a nice walk around town? Catch up?’ Jordan grabbed his arm.
-
Jayden looked back at Chester. “Can’t we talk in here? I don’t want to leave him alone in case something wrong happens.”
-
‘C’mon, Jay, you’re always around him! I’m sure he’d be glad about having the space. He’ll be fine for an hour.’
-
Jayden’s gut told him not to listen to her, but he felt bad for abandoning her at the party. “Fine, but only for a few minutes.”
