I squeezed her hand. "But you didn't."

"No, I didn't." I go back and hug him again. "And I'm not going to."

"No you're not," I hug back. "Ever."

"We need to get going," I tell him. "Okay, map." I take out my map, and try to figure out where we are.

I look over her shoulder. Her smell drifts into my nose... Roses.

I trace our path, then take into account all the random twists and turns we made. "Well, I think we're somewhere in this area." I use my finger to circle the entire forest.

"Yeah, we probably are. Where's the house?"

"Here." I point to a little square about a half mile away from the city. Surrounding it is a huge farm. "Nate told me that it's so far out that they never even look for runaways there."

"Nate? Who's Nate?"

"Oh, he, he ran away a while ago. He gave me this and circled all the safe houses he knew about."

I felt a pang in my gut. I wasn't sure what it was... But I felt like she and Nate were more than she was telling me.

"Um, okay, so...Let's go." I held onto his hand again. I had held down a few details about Nate, but he was gone so I didn't think it mattered.

It felt different, her holding my hand, but I couldn't figure out why, I knew it had something to do with Nate.

"Let's try...This way." I walk with him, trying to get a glimpse of the fence. He seemed to be acting a bit funny, though. "You okay?"
