  Mods were all selected at one time by a popular vote of users on the forum. The list of voted users were then whittled down by GTQ guys personal preferences I.E. older user, been here longer, appears level headed, contributes often, ect.
  
  One day we got on and some of us had a new button option on our posts and there was a new thread in the Feedback forum explaining what we could do.
  
  That's it.
