  1. "What do you mean?" I asked. What did they think I was, an evil spy or something? I barely knew what was going on. "I mean you might not be one of us, and you're here undercover." the doctor replied. So they did think I was undercover. I frowned, were they that stupid. "Doctor, I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. How could she be undercover? It's not even like we have records of her asking about certain pieces of information." said Jimmy. "On the contrary, Mr. Shock, she was asking many questions about the books." said Ms. Smith, who was talking to Jimmy. Vincent rolled his eyes, "Well yeah, but that's just typical curiosity. That would happen to everyone with the amount of secrecy that was put on it." he said. At least Vincent was backing me up. "That may be ordinary for most people Mr. Walsh," said Dr. Bennet, now addressing Vincent, "But how do we know that she's not a spy anyway? Plus, maybe she was just not asking questions yet because she wanted to gain our trust first. And how does that explain her blood?" My head was starting to ache from the amount of information that was just given to me less than two hours ago. Everyone started arguing and I just wanted to scream. I took a few deep breaths, I used to have problems with my short temper. "Guys," I said in a normal tone. No one acknowledged me. "Guys," I said louder. Still no response. I sighed, "GUYS!" I yelled. Everyone looked at me. "Look, I was almost killed just a few hours ago, I've learned that I'm supposedly a Superior, and Forest Richmond is a school for Superiors. Can you guys give me some time to think about this? How do you expect me to be able to digest what's going on if you keep switching off topic? I need some space." I said, very frustrated. It's like they didn't understand, even though they probably had to go through this too.
  2. Or did they. "I mean," I continued, "Don't you remember how weird it was when you first heard this?" Everyone looked somewhat sheepish. "Actually, _______," Tara said, "None of us besides you had to go through this. We were raised in the knowledge of our power." I frowned. What was she talking about? "What do you mean?" I demanded. "Well, the thing is _______, we knew we would be attending Forest Richmond since we could toddle. We knew we were special. We knew we were Superiors. The thing about you is, your parents don't have any record of being Superiors or Skills. That's why you're different, everyone that is currently at Forest Richmond knew about all of this before they came. You were the most recent person we thought might be a Non. But you aren't. But you had to have gotten your blood from somewhere, it's not something that's hereditary, and runs in certain families. That's why we're all so stumped." Miranda explained. I thought about it. My parents had never mentioned anything about Skills, or Superiors, or anything of that nature. How did I have blue blood? And so dark too. "Well fine, I guess she's safe to have at school," said Ms. Smith, "If you want to, you may return to your dorm dear." I did want to go to my dorm. And think a whole lot about what was going on. "Yes, I think I will," I said. I checked what I was wearing first. Good, a sweater and black skinny jeans. I didn't want to go traipsing around campus in a hospital gown. Miranda, Vincent, and Tara left, probably going back to their dorms. Dr. Bennet went to a different room where I assume he was scribbling down notes. I got out of bed and and took a step. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough strength to support myself in my condition of shock and weakness from the Calamity attack. So I immediately collapsed. Jimmy came and helped me up. "You okay?" he asked. I nodded. "Yeah I'm fine." I said, trying to take another step. I almost collapsed again, but Jimmy caught me and helped me stay standing up. "Do you want me to walk you back?" he asked.
  3. "I think I'll be fine," I said uncertainly. I started to take another step but I could barely put any weight on it without falling over. "Okay, I'll help you walk back." Jimmy said. Slowly but surely, me and Jimmy walked back to Ivory, chatting along the way. "So you're Vincent's roommate, huh?" I asked. "Yeah. And you room with Miranda." It wasn't really a question. I nodded anyway. "So I know you can heal, but what other Skills do you have?" Jimmy looked at me uncertainly for a second, probably deciding whether it was safe to give me that information since I might be a spy. Though he was the one that originally defended me in saying I couldn't be one. "I can heal, and I have the ability of controlling earth and water." "What? No mind reading?" I asked. Jimmy laughed. "Well the thing is _______, that a mind can't simply be read like a book. When people think of mind reading, they simply just think of reading what someone's saying inside their head. Not memories, thoughts, or knowledge that they need or anything of that sort. But the mind can't just be read like something simple anyway. The mind varies from person to person, so even if you could 'read' one person's mind easily, it would take months to a year to master another person's mind. That's because everyone's mind is different, and can't be read in one simple manner." Hmm. "Where do you get all of this knowledge from?" I asked. Jimmy shrugged, "I read a lot. And I have a way of being able to see things that most people look past." "I wonder what my Skills are." I said.
  4. "I was wondering the same thing. You seriously don't know what your Skills are?" Jimmy said. "No, I have no idea." I replied. "That's odd. Usually you'd have some form of clue of what you Skills might be." he said. Ivory was coming to view, and I realized how incredibly nice it was of Jimmy to help me walk back. "Well I guess I'll find out." I said. We got to the front of Ivory. "Thanks for literally, walking me back," I said. "No problem," Jimmy said with a smile, "Are you sure you're going to be okay?" "Yeah I think so." I said. I knew what he meant. Guys weren't allowed in girls' dorms unless it was an open dorm day. So he wouldn't be able to walk me in. "Okay, goodnight," he said. "Goodnight." I waited until he was out of sight before I put in the code on the door lock. If I was going to collapse again, I didn't want Jimmy to be there. He'd think I was a weakling and couldn't take care of myself. I took a deep breath. Then I took a step. I was overwhelmed by the feeling of weakness in my legs and almost toppled over. I gripped the door handle and bit my lip. Slowly, and with great difficulty I managed to take another step. I practically dragged myself to my room and fumbled around with my satchel, which to my great relief made it through the Calamity incident. I unlocked the door and flopped over onto my bed. I looked at Miranda, who was still awake and reading Jane Eyre. I guess she'd finished Gone With the Wind, which was very surprising, because she had just started, like, the day before. And did she only read romance novels? "Oh you're back? I didn't think you'd have the strength after the Calamities almost killed you." she said nonchalantly. "I didn't, Jimmy practically carried me back." I said getting a water bottle from the mini fridge. Miranda closed her book and put on her glasses. "What?" I explained what happened and she made a half smile.
  5. "Okay, I know he's cute, but you have to be careful, he's going out with Eve." she said. I almost spit out all the water, but managed to gulp it down. "What?!" Miranda chuckled. "I know it's weird, and personally, I think she's blackmailing him." "But, but, Eve's a total witch! For lack of a better word." I said, "And she was flirting with Xander! I don't care if she treats Xander like crap, but why would you do that to someone like Jimmy?" "I don't know," said Miranda. "But please don't get into trouble with Eve, it will be awful. Trust me, I know." "Fine, I'll try my best not to rip her hair out, but I have to warn you, I'm having a hard enough time doing that anyway." "Good," she said and laid back down. I couldn't imagine Jimmy would be friends with a witch like Eve, much less go out with her. Hmm. "Whatch ya thinkin about?" said Miranda in a purposely annoying voice. I rolled my eyes. "Nothing," I said. I got changed into my pajamas and laid down on my bed. "Okay, I'll pretend I believe you." she said. I smiled. I just wanted to sleep. I stared at the ceiling until I started to drift off, then a lot of things happened. I think I was dreaming again. I was walking through my house in New York, and I went downstairs to find Mom and Dad, but they weren't there. Actually, nothing that I had ever seen in my house was there.
  6. And no one was in the house. I walked into the garage, and I saw a Calamity, but this one wasn't trying to kill me. "Come back, come back home," it said in a voice that almost sounded familiar. I felt a warm sensation, then I woke up. It was ten o'clock. Holy crap, why didn't Miranda wake me up? I felt kind of upset because I'd missed a class and it was only my second day. I sat up and swung my legs to the side of the bed. I stood up and fell halfway to my dresser. Crap, I couldn't walk again. How the heck was I supposed to manage that? No one was there to help me. I slowly got myself up. Maybe I had the Skill of moving objects with my mind. I concentrated really hard on opening my dresser. Nothing. Darn. My legs were shaking and I thought I was going to collapse. I managed to flop really far onto my bed. Then I noticed a note on my bedside table. 'Hey _______! I didn't wake you up, but with good reason. Dr. Bennet says you are currently too weak to attend classes, so you are excused for today and tomorrow! Lucky. Anyway, I'll be back at four to check on you and get you anything since you probably can't walk, enjoy your days off! Love, Miranda.' Well at least now I could try and figure out what my Skills were. Miranda fed Twix again, which I was extremely grateful for, because I couldn't move my legs. My satchel was also on my bedside table, I guess Miranda put it there in case I wanted anything from it. I emptied it on my bed and opened up my special book. Just in case something else was written in there.
  7. It was kind of freaky that the word 'Soon' was gone. Instead it read, 'You're confused, and you have the right to be. I'm sorry this had to happen.' I thought I was going to pass out. Who kept writing in my book? Only Miranda had the key to our dorm besides me, but maybe someone broke in. Ugh. I tried to take my mind off the weird appearance of words in my book by listening to Jar of Hearts on my Ipod. Even though most songs like that didn't apply to me, I still loved listening to them. After a while my Ipod died, and I was bored once more. I decided to sleep some more, I know, I'm weird, and thankfully I didn't have any weird dreams. I woke up at three forty five, wow, I slept for a really long time, and realized how hungry I was. I groaned. Actually, I hadn't tried out my legs for a few hours, maybe they were miraculously cured in my sleep. I tried to stand up and realized I was stupid as I fell back down. Crap. At least Miranda would be back soon so I could make her feed me. I started singing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. That sounds extremely weird, but Tara had told me that Forest Richmond did a musical every semester. And for the Fall they were doing Into the Woods. If I got in, I really wanted to be the baker's wife. If you've never seen Into the Woods, look it up on Wikipedia. I wasn't sure what to sing for the audition, but I Dreamed a Dream was a nice song anyway.
  8. I sang all the show tunes I could think of, until Miranda burst in the door saying, "Okay, there may not be many people in Ivory, but the few that are want you to shut up. I chuckled. "So how are you feeling?" she asked, sitting down on her bed. "Wonderful, I can almost stand up now, NOT!" I said. "That's expected. What do you want for dinner? I can get you some food from Stop & Shop." "But that's going to take too long!" I whined, "I'M HUNGRY, NOW!!!!" "Fine, eat this," Miranda said, throwing a small bag of Goldfish at me. "Yay!" "I'll be back in a bit, you're getting macaroni and cheese fro dinner." Miranda said as she walked out the door. "STOUFFER'S!" I yelled. I guess not being able to walk around made me feel little kiddish and giddy. "I was still bored, so I started singing in a fake opera voice, "Miranda's going to Stop & Shop, to buy me some mac, and cheese! I'm super hungry, and I like Goldfish, hurry Miranda, PLEASE!" I know, I have a few problems. "Shut up, why don't ya?" said a voice. "NOOOOOOOO!!!!!" I shouted, and then burst into laughter. The door opened. I frowned, Miranda must have left the door unlocked, but why wouldn't she? It wasn't like there was a murderer on the loose. "Hello," said Vincent, coming in with Tara and Jimmy. "What are you guys doing here?" I asked. "Well it's nice to see you too," said Jimmy. "Well, I'm glad to see you, but how did you and Vincent get in here? Is it open dorm day?" I asked Jimmy. "No it's not, but we got permission from Ms. Smith to visit you since you're technically invalid." I snorted. "I'm NOT, invalid. I just suffer from TLW." I said.
  9. "TLW?" Vincent asked. "Yes, Temporary Leg Weakness." I said. "Well, now I know when you are ill, you are also partially crazy," said Vincent. "I'm not crazy," I said, "So, are you here to entertain me?" "Yes actually," said Tara, "We brought cards, Monopoly, and some Disney movies." "Yay," I said. Tara, Vincent, and Jimmy exchanged looks. "What? I can't be hyper sometimes? Huh? HUH?" I said. "No, it's just we didn't know you could be that hyper or giddy." said Jimmy. "Where's Miranda?" asked Tara. "She went to Stop & Shop to get me dinner." I replied. We had a Spit tournament, which I won. If you don't know how to play that, look it up. Then we played Spoons, which got icredibly violent, mostly between me and Tara, who sometimes were wrestling while Jimmy and Vincent just stared at us, not knowing what to do. One time when we were wrestling, Jimmy decided it was a good time to play Monopoly. I was the money bag, because I'm awesome. Of course, Jimmy wanted to play Monopoly because Spoons was getting violent, but Monopoly got even more violent when everyone had to pay up to moi because I owned pretty much everything. After a VERY long game of Monopoly, we watched Hercules, Mulan, and had just started Pocahontas when Miranda came in with a plastic bag. "What are you guys watching, Pocahontas." she asked. We nodded. "Actually, SOMEONE," I said glaring at Tara, "wanted to watch Fantasia, but that's just plain weird. And I wouldn't normally mind watching it, but I just watched it last week."
  10. "Well I brought food, so if any of you want any, help yourselves." Miranda said, plopping down in front of the small tv we had in our dorm. Luckily, Miranda put the bag of food right in front of me, so I wouldn't have to ask anyone to get me food. She bought Stouffer's mac & cheese, if you haven't had that, you have not lived. She also bought ice cream, M&Ms, and potato chips. Delicious. We sat down and continued to watch Pocahontas, while munching on candy and potato chips. After the movie, Miranda heated up the macaroni and cheese, which we also ate. By then it was nine thirty. "Well, we wish we could stay, but Ms. Smith said me and Jimmy are only allowed to be here until nine forty, so we should probably get going." said Vincent. "Bye _______, hope you feel better," said Jimmy, giving me a hug. "I'm not sick! I feel perfectly fine!" I said indignantly, but I did enjoy the hug. "Alright, see you around," said Vincent as they left the room. "Well, thank goodness they're gone," said Tara, plopping onto the bed next to me. "Now we can talk." "About what?" I asked, eating some M&Ms. "Alright, let's get it clear, what are you're thoughts on Xander?" Tara asked randomly. I frowned. That was a really random question. "He's a total jerk, and I wish he didn't go to this school." I replied without thinking. Miranda raised her eyebrows. "Okay _______, c'mon, every girl who currently goes to Forest Richmond has or had a crush on him." she said. "Well, I guess I've broken his streak, oh well." "This isn't going to go well _______." Tara said. "And why's that?" I asked. "Because, Xander isn't used to girls not paying attention to him, especially if he tries for their attention. You remember your first day, don't you?" "Yeah I do, and Xander's was all over- wait, how do you know that happened?" I demanded. "Sorry, one of my Skills is really good vision, and I could see you trying to get away. Like I said, Xander's not used to girls not crushing on him." "Well maybe I've done him some good." I said.
  11. "Maybe, but probably not. See, Xander thinks all girls love him, and that's kind of how he thinks it should be too, idiot, but if one girl doesn't like him, he'll go out of his way to win her affection, and then once he has it, he'll drop her and leave." said Tara. "And where are you going with this?" I asked. "Well, _______ I don't want you to get hurt, so I'm just warning you to be careful." "Don't worry, I'm in no danger of getting hurt. It would take a miracle for me to fall for someone like him." It would, wouldn't it? "Okay, but keep your guard up all the same." Miranda said cautiously. I laughed, "What do you think he's going to do? Seduce me?" I laughed again, but this time a little uncertainly. "Honestly, I wouldn't put it past him. Promise me you'll be careful?" Tara said. I rolled my eyes. "Fine, I'll be careful." I said. "Good, now I have to get up early tomorrow, so goodnight you two." Tara said, collecting her things and leaving. "Goodnight," me and Miranda said in unison. "Okay, it's ten, so I also have to sleep," said Miranda, putting on her pajamas, "if you need anything just wake me up." I chuckled. Getting her up would involve a very large bucket of ice water. Miranda turned off her lamp and wrapped herself in blankets. I sighed. Then I remembered something, how was I going to be able to work tomorrow? Dang. I was also very tired so I let my thoughts wander until I was gifted with sleep.
