  1. What is your age?
  2. What is your gender?
  1. When you woke up, Percy was fast asleep with his head on your lap. Giggling, you pulled out your phone and turned on the power. Even if you weren’t supposed to use it, this was a photo op you couldn’t simply ignore. As soon as the shot was taken, you turned off your phone. “Shouldn’t you leave that off?” You nearly jump. It was only Grover. “Can’t monsters find us easier if we use cells?” he asked. “Can you blame me?” you defended. He paused and put his hand on his chin as if pondering something. After a while he spoke again. “Nah, I really can’t.” You almost laughed, but didn’t in case you woke up Percy. Grover smiled gently. In fact, his smile was so gentle it didn’t even look real.
  2.  “You okay?” you asked. “Yeah, just thinking,” he said quietly. “What about?” He paused and looked at you, then out the window. “See those stars out there?” he asked. Frankly, you couldn’t see anything in the sky. “Umm,” you tried to think of what to say. Grover simply chuckled. “How about trees? Flowers? Wild animals? See any of those?” You remained silent, which was all he needed to hear. “Exactly. Your species is clogging up the world so fast… Ah, never mind. It’s useless to lecture a human. At the rate things are going, I’ll never find Pan or get my searching license, for that matter.” Something about that rang a bell… You suddenly remembered during your Mythology unit last year learning about a Greek god named Pan.
  3. “God of the Wild?” you questioned. Grover surveyed you as if you were teasing him. “Yeah, he disappeared two thousand years ago. A sailor off the coast of Ephesos heard a mysterious voice crying out from the shore, ‘Tell them that the great god Pan has died!’ When humans heard the news, they believed it. They’ve been pillaging Pan’s kingdom ever since. But for the satyrs, Pan was our lord and master. He protected us and the wild places of the earth. We refuse to believe that he died. In every generation, the bravest satyrs have pledged their lives to finding Pan. They search the earth, exploring all the wildest places, hoping to find where he is hidden, and wake him from his sleep.”
  4.   “And you want to be a searcher?” “It’s my life’s dream,” he said. “My father was a searcher. My Uncle Ferdinand… He was one of the statues in Medusa’s-“ You placed your hand on his shoulder. “I’m so sorry I-“ “Don’t worry about it. Uncle Ferdinand knew the risks. So did my dad. But I’ll succeed. I’ll be the first searcher to return alive.” You looked him in the eye. “Hang on- the first?!” Grover took his reed pipes out of his pocket. “No searcher has ever come back. Once they set out, they disappear. They’re never seen alive again.”
  5. Silence followed his statement. Neither of you really knew what to say next. Finally, you spoke up. “Promise me you’ll find Pan and come back alive. I don’t know what I would think if you died.” He blushed. “On one condition.” “Yeah?” “Print off that picture you took of Percy and give it to me. I need some good blackmail against him.” You laughed and almost woke Percy, who groaned and shifted in his highly hilarious sleep. One hand shhh-ing Grover, you got settled in your chair, ready to drift off. Grover was snoring and bleating in his sleep almost immediately. Suddenly...
  6. "I won't help you....I won't....won't help you...." Percy mumbled in his sleep. You shot straight up in your chair. You knew by now that dreams weren't dreams for demigods. They were visions, sometimes warnings. Who wanted Percy to help them? Why was Percy denying? Grover unexpectedly kicked Percy in the head. "OW!" Percy said, shooting up a foot, in shock. Rubbing his head, he turned to you and smiled. "Hey Violet, good...?" "Morning. It's about 6 in the morning," you said, checking your watch. He groaned and sat back in his chair.
  7. "So...who wants your help?" you asked nonchalantly. "What do you mean?" Percy asked, suddenly very tense. "When you were asleep, you started saying 'I wont help you.' Who wants your help?" you asked, getting anxious now. "I was dreaming....about a pit. There'd were spirits of the dead all around me...and a voice was coming out of the pit. It wanted my help....to rise from the pit. To start a war with the gods." Percy said slowly, as if still trying to make himself believe it was true. You were silent for a long time until you said, "That doesn't sound like Hades. He lives in the underworld, but you made it sound like he was in....Tarturus." As you said that word, the lights flickered on the Amtrack train.
  8. "He offered my mother in trade. Who else could offer me that but Hades?" "I guess..maybe if when he said 'Help me rise' he really meant 'Help me rise from the Underworld.' But...why did he ask for your help if he already has the bolt?" Percy shook his head. You looked at him, trying to figure out what he was thinking. But you knew it had to do with his mom....."Percy, you can't bargain with Hades. You know that right?" Percy nodded slowly, looking out the window, watching Ohio race by......
  9. Toward the end of June 13th, your second day on the train, eight days before your impending deadline, you passed the Mississippi River and reached St. Louis. You had to crane your neck at a horribly uncomfortable angle, but you looked at the Gateway Arch from out the window. You nudged Grover, who, miraculously, was still asleep. He started awake. "FOOD!- I..uh....I mean, where are we?" he asked, rubbing his eyes. "St. Louis, goat boy. We're going sightseeing." "Sightseeing?" He said it like you would say 'Hephaestus' dirty laundry.' "Yeah, sightseeing. We're a the Gateway Arch, and this may or may not be my only chance to ride to the top." you explained. Grover and Percy both sighed at the same time. "Fine," Grover finally concluded, "But as long as the snack bar has no monster infestations...." Percy grumbled, but followed the both of you off of the train.
  10. Bad news: you had to walk a mile from the station to get to the Arch. Good news: the lines weren't too long. You walked through underground tunnels filled with artifacts and other junk from the ancient times to the 1800s. "You smell anything, Grover?" you asked, still tense from your run in with Medusa.  "Yeah, but underground places always reek like monsters...." he said. That didn't help your mood. You had almost managed to get a hold of yourself and calm down, when you saw the little tiny car you would ride in to get to the top of the Arch. You hated small confined places. It was part of your ADHD. You needed to be moving at all times. And little tiny spaces like this on didn't allow you to do that.
  11. There were a bunch of other people on deck. A fat lady and a chihuahua, a family of three, and an attended with a couple guards. "Children, where are your parents?" asked the fat lady. "Oh, their on the ground. They're horribly afraid of heights," you said as if she was an old friend from your past. "Poor things...." she said, as her dog growled. "Now, now, sonny. Not here, with all these nice people..." she scolded. But the dog continued to growl. "Not now, son...." she said. "Sonny. Is that his name?" asked Percy. "No," she said, and beamed at him. The dog continued to growl.
  12. The next car to go up arrived and as you were getting in, you noticed the other two tourists. Percy had also noticed them- also noticing that there would be no room for him.  "Next car please," asked the attendant. "We'll get out with you," you suggested, not willing to split up. But Percy just shook his head and said he would be okay. "Really, Violet. I'll be fine," he assured you.  You gave him a pleading, anxious look as the doors shut and the car went up. You continued to stare at him until his smiling gave and waving hands disappeared.
  13. You sighed. "He'll be fine....he'll be away from us for a little more then five minutes," Grover whispered. "Grover, we're demigods. Five minutes could be all it takes to get him killed," you whispered back. Grover was silent for a minute. "I know....but he's Percy Jackson." You were silent for the rest of the ride, and still didn't say anything until you were back on the ground. "Do you see him anywhere?" you asked Grover, who shook his head. Suddenly, a blast of fire emitted from the side of the Arch. "Found him..." said Grover, almost to himself.
  14. You shot Grover a half annoyed look and turned back to face the Arch- just in time to see an explosion of glass, flying in every direction, sparkling in the sun- and in the midst of it all- a small, human shaped figure. It looked like....Percy. You gave and exasperated sigh as he went hurtling toward the river below. You were momentarily certain that he would be smashed upon impact when he reached the water- he was falling 630 feet!- until you remembered who his father was. Poseidon wouldn't let his own son die if he had anything to say about it.
  15. Percy's body hit the water with a deafening SPLASH! You grabbed Grover's hand (much to his embarrassment) and pulled him throughout he crowd towards Percy. His fake feet fell off twice, and you quickly shoved them on before continuing on. You got to the edge of the river and looked down. You didn't see anything in the mirky, dirt-colored water except for yours and Grover's reflections. Something in the distance caught your eye- a figure at the other end of the river emerging from the water- Percy!
  16. He looked completely dry and uninjured and you breathed in a deep sigh of relief. You and Grover starting running by the side of the river until you got close enough for Grover to tackle Percy. "We thought you went to Hades the hard way!" Grover said, as he released Percy. You looked at Percy for a minute- he smirked at you like crazy- before slapping him upside the head. "What was -?" "'Really, Violet, I'll be fine,'" you said, in a bad imitation of Percy's voice. "Um...sorry?" You glared at him before giving him a rib-crushing hug. "If you die on me, Percy Jackson, I'll kill you," you said as he laughed.
  17. After you finished questioning Percy about what happened, ("A huge, fire breathing Chihuahua!") you decided to get out of there before someone recognized Percy- who was apparently a nation- known criminal wanted for questioning on the disappearance of his mom. Somehow, you made it back to the Amtrack station without being spotted. You caught the train just as it was about to head for Denver. You sat in your seat, and closed your eyes.
  18. 'Hello, Violet,' a voice said in your mind, 'I know you can hear me.' you shot straight up. 'W-who are you?' 'Take a guess-Princess.'
