How intuitive are you?

Physics is the study of how things in our universe work. There was once a man named Isaac Newton. He came up with three laws: An object in motion stays in motion and an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by another force. That is why balls stop rolling in Earth. If there was no friction, gravity, or object to stop the ball, it would continue rolling forever.

The second law is: force= mass x acceleration. That means that the more mass that an object has and the speed in which it is accelerating result in the force that it will hit another object with. The third law is: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That means that if a person runs into a rolling chair, the equal action will be the chair rolling forward and the opposite action will be the person stumbling backwards.

  1. If Jupiter has more mass, then why would it have less of a gravitational force than a smaller planet?
  2. What is weight?
  3. The moon has no atmosphere. What would happen if you were to drop a hammer and a feather on the moon?
  4. Why, on Earth, does a piece of paper fall slower to the ground than a piano?
  5. If you had any trouble answering any of these questions because you have never been introduced to physics, I suggest you read the opening paragraphs for a base start.
  6. If you were to go in space and throw a ball, what would happen?
  7. It you throw a ball at a wall on Earth, what two forces would act on what?
  8. Rachel and her friend Ricardo are playing soccer. They both run towards the ball at the same speed and from the same distance away, but on opposite sides. Then, a layer kicks the ball out of the way and Rachel and Ricardo collide. Ricardo has more mass. What will happen?
  9. How does the moon orbit the Earth?
  10. Last question: Why are planets round?
