Hogwarts Part 40

Will you get the Hogwarts guy of your dreams? Find out in this quiz. Starting in your third year, you will get the opportunity to become friends and more with Neville Longbottom, Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, George Weasley, and Oliver Wood.

*Recap* Lots of Draco drama! Katie Bell got cursed by a necklace in Hogsmeade, renewing Harry's suspicions of Draco. Draco keeps becoming more distant, and Ron found a new girlfriend after the first Quidditch match of the season, seeing as you aren't planning on getting back together. Draco also turned down your invite to Slughorn's Christmas party. Slughorn's party and is basically what this edition is going to be about.

  1. A short time before the party, I still found myself dateless. Ron obviously wasn't an option, and Draco had made it clear he didn't want to go. I thought about Harry, but he had asked Luna the day previously. Oliver wasn't such a bad option either, but I didn't want him to get the wrong idea again. After having guys practically clambering to ask me to other events, it was odd to be on the other side. I contemplated asking a Quidditch teammate, but I wasn't particularly close to any one of them. Sadly, most of my friends seemed to be Gryffindors. Not that they weren't great friends, but it was nice to have others to turn to as well.
  2. Literally the day before the party, I had a stroke of brilliance. It was quite unbelievable that I had overlooked him before. I dropped my books on my dormitory bed carelessly and fled out the door, hoping to get there before curfew. I ran down to the ground floor and out one of the castle doors, headed straight for the greenhouses.
  3. I found Neville exactly where I thought he would be. He had taken to tending plants during many of the evenings, already well on his way to becoming the next Herbology professor. He looked up at me in surprise, setting down the shears he had been using. "Coming to help with the plants?" he asked jokingly. I caught my breath for a moment, a bit winded from my journey there. "I would, but I'm afraid I'd probably kill them or something," I evaded the suggestion with a teasing smile. "Nah, Herbology's easy. You just clip them here, see, and..." he demonstrated for me, explaining the process as he went. I nodded knowingly, acting as if I had a clue what he was talking about. Whereas I had the knowledge of plants that my other sixth year Herbology classmates had, Neville was light years ahead of everyone else. But I didn't mind. I was glad he had finally found something he enjoyed and was good at.
  4. "Actually, I came down to ask you something," I said as soon as he had finished talking. "Oh. Right," Neville said sheepishly, putting down his tools again and turning his attention to me. "Well, I'm guessing you've probably heard about Slughorn's Christmas party by now. I haven't found someone to go with yet, though, so I was hoping you might like to come with me. I know it's really short notice, so I understand if you don't, but-" "No, that's great! I mean, er, yeah, I'd be happy to go with you," Neville cut in eagerly, and then went slightly red, realizing he had answered a bit too soon. I smiled. "Great! Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow, then," I waved goodbye and walked off happily. Well, that had been rather easy.
  5. When eight o'clock arrived, I found Neville waiting at the bottom of the spiral staircase to the Ravenclaw common room. "You look great," Neville commented as I appeared around the corner. I had opted for a simple knee-length blue dress and flats. It wasn't really an occasion to go all out for, but I wanted to look good nevertheless. "You're not looking too shabby yourself," I teased, linking my arm through his. He was dressed in some spiffy black dress robes, and though it wasn't hard, looked ten times better than Ron at the Yule Ball. "Ready to go?" I asked. At his nod, we began the long trek to the party location.
  6. We made our way to Slughorn's office, a bit apprehensive as to what we would find. Some rumors had been making their way around Hogwarts about vampires and other strange creatures Slughorn had invited. Luckily, all seemed to be relatively normal, if not a bit lavish. The decorations were rather extravagant, even by Hogwarts standards. I spotted Harry and Luna somewhere to my right. Hermione was awkwardly being led around by her date, Cormac McLaggen. I didn't know what she was thinking asking him there, but she certainly didn't have her head screwed on the right way when she did. The affair seemed somewhat boring overall, but with Neville there, at least I had company. "So is this how your meetings usually are?" Neville asked, looking around the room curiously. "No, they're actually pretty boring most of the time. Trust me, you're not missing out on anything," I assured him with a roll of my eyes. Neville grinned. "See, Herbology doesn't get you any recognition, but you're the one stuck at the meetings." I pushed him away with a laugh. "True."
  7. Most of the evening was spent talking, eating, and even doing a little dancing, but by far the most memorable part of the night was when Filch dragged Draco in, accusing him of gatecrashing. I noticed Draco looked even more tired than before. And despite what Filch said, I didn't think he was there to party with the rest of us. Snape stepped forward and led Draco away, and I felt a strong inclination to follow, but remembered I had come with Neville. "You can go if you want. Really, I don't mind," Neville offered. I turned away from Draco and smiled at him. "I came here with you, and I'm staying. I don't see why I would want to go eavesdropping with you already here," I assured him. It was a little sugarcoated, mostly because it was tempting to take his offer, but I did mean what I said all the same.
  8. We left after another hour or so, exhausted from the talking and noise. It was nice just to get back to a quiet dormitory after all that. We stopped at the staircase again, and I pecked Neville on the cheek. "That was fun. Thank you for coming." He went a tinge pink. "No problem. I, er, I guess I'll see you on the train tomorrow?" he asked. I started to nod, but then thought about it again. "I actually think I'm going to stay here this Christmas. Catch up with Arianna and everything," I explained. He nodded. "Well, I guess I'll see you after the holidays, then. Merry Christmas!" he said cheerily, and then headed off to the common room. I ascended the long, winding staircase up to the common room, and yet another staircase to my dormitory. I kicked off my flats and collapsed into bed, still wearing my dress. However, I was far from getting to sleep. If only I knew what Draco was really up to...
  9. *music826* Rather short edition this time around. Maybe you prefer that, but part 41 should be up soon anyway. I love the fact that I'm so far ahead right now. It makes writing so much easier when I'm not in a rush to get the next edition out. Until next time :)
