Hogwarts Part 1

Okay, so this is my Hogwarts Story. Well, technically, it's yours. (Notice how careful I was not to put _Love_ in the title. I'm gonna make it mostly about the boys, but there might me some parts where they aren't in it.) So will you end up with Harry, Ron, Neville, Draco, Fred/George, Oliver, or Cedric?

From the second edition on, this will be the recap section, but there is no need for recap now, sooooo... I'm just filling it in with random nonsense.

  1. "Layla! Mail's here!" Just as my mom said this, an owl fluttered in through the window. Unlike the usual tawny owl that brought my school supply list for the Virginia Academy of Magic, this owl was a large brown barn owl. In its beak was a letter addressed to me. "What school is it from? Where are you going to go this year?" My mom asked, sounding more excited than I was about my new school. What happened to the Virginia Academy of Magic, you ask? It was a huge scandal. No one knows what happened, but the whole school managed to get demolished, and even muggles noticed a razed building that hadn't been there before. No one knew who was responsible, and I didn't think anyone would find out any time soon. Because there was nowhere to teach a bunch of under-age wizards to use magic, we were being dispersed to all the different schools all over the world. Where was I going to go? I could end up at a school in Italy (I'd always wanted to go there anyways). Or I could end up in Antarctica. Or I could just end up going to the school one state over, in Maryland. But no matter where I wanted to go to school"” I was about to find out where I would go. I walked over to the owl and gently took the letter from her beak, stroking her head. "It's from..." I said slowly. I smile grew on my face as I saw what school it was from. "It's from Hogwarts!" "Hogwarts?" my mom asked. "What school is that?" "Mom, it's one of the best schools of magic there is in the world. It's right up there with Beauxbatons and Durmstrang." "Hm. Well, is it in this country?" my mom asked, always worrying about how far away from home I am. "No. England. London, to be exact." Anticipating my mom's protests, I added, "And I have to go, there's no stopping me. I have to go, otherwise I can't legally be a wizard, and I'd have to find a muggle job." I made my best puppy dog face for effect. My mom just rolled her eyes. "Fine, you can go," she said as she left the kitchen.
  2. My mother and I made arrangements for me to stay at the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley for me to get my school supplies until it was time to go to school. She couldn't come herself, as she had important stuff to do at the Virginian Ministry of Magic, leading the Invisibility Task Force into trying to cover up the remains of my old school. So one month later, I found myself walking through the door of the Leaky Cauldron and into what turned out to be an interesting day. Not to mention an interesting next few years.
  3. "_Unfogging the Future_... _Intermediate Transfiguration_......... _The Essential Defense Against the Dark Arts_..." As I picked up each book on my list, I mentally checked it off. But I was so engrossed in my books that I bumped into someone and ended up spilling all my heavy books all over them. "Sorry!" I yelled automatically. But I would've been speechless if I had seen the guy's face first. He had dark brown hair, chiseled features, and bright grey eyes that almost made me melt into a puddle where I was standing. "It's fine, don't worry about it," came his reply. I just stood there a moment, wondering how I had the fortune to bump into this hottie, when I remembered my books, laying forgotten on the floor. I immediately bent to the ground to pick them all up, hiding my face in the process. "Here, let me help you with that," he said. He also bent to help pick up my books. "I'm Cedric, by the way. Cedric Diggory." "And I'm Gardens. Layla Gardens," I couldn't help saying. I tried to keep a straight face as I said it, too, but I ended up laughing and dropping my books all over again. Apparently this confused Cedric. "What's so funny?" he asked, looking into the window to make sure his hair wasn't sticking up. "You said your name like James Bond would," I explained. "James Bond? Who is this "˜James Bond'?" he asked me, amused. I playfully gasped. "James Bond? Why, only the best spy to ever walk on Earth. And he's not bad with the ladies, either," I said, smirking. Cedric laughed. "You'll have to tell me more about this "˜James Bond' later. Do you go to Hogwarts?" "I do now. My old school, the Virginia Academy of Magic, got kind of, well, demolished. I was told to transfer here." Cedric smiled and flicked up his eyebrows twice. "Virginia. Foreign girl, are you?" I blushed the tiniest bit before Cedric continued, "Well, my friends are waiting for me, I'd better be going. Hope I'll see you at Hogwarts!"
  4. He departed the store and I checked my list for the last book I needed: _The Monster Book of Monsters_. That didn't sound good. Right at that moment, I heard the noises of a struggle going on near the cage full of the monster books. A distressed clerk was trying to get out a copy of the book from the cage for a boy about my age, and he didn't seem to be succeeding. I didn't think then was the best time to ask for a copy, but it was the last book left on my list. I ran over to help the boy and the clerk get all the books back into the cage except two. "They should really pay you more," I commented to the clerk as we stood there, panting, trying to catch our breath. The boy smiled a little. "Hey, I'm Layla," I said. If he wanted the same book as I did, he must go to Hogwarts (no one in their right mind would want that book for a bit of light reading), and I needed more than one friend on the first day there. "I'm Neville," he said, and his cheeks turned a little pink. "Who assigned us this book? It's crazy. How are we supposed to use it in class?" I said, trying to make light conversation. "It was our new Care of Magical Creatures Teacher, Hagrid," he replied. "I much prefer Herbology to that. There, the books don't bite." I laughed, causing Neville to smile and look down at his shoes. "So you like Herbology, do you?" He nodded yes, then said, "Oh, I see my grandmother, I must be going," then squeezed his book shut and ran out the door.
  5. On the way back to my room at the Leaky Cauldron, I bumped yet again into more people and dropped all my newly-bought things. I sighed and said, "I'm so sorry, I'm just so clumsy today." Three faces looked back at me, two boys and a girl: the girl with bushy brown hair and rather big front teeth, one boy with flaming red hair and a boat-load of freckles, and the other boy with brown hair all over the place and broken glasses sitting on his nose. All three bent down to help me pick up my things. The red-haired boy jumped on _The Monster Book of Monsters_ and clamped it shut before handing it back to me. "You have something on your nose, you know," I said. "I know," he muttered, and started rubbing his nose crossly. I turned to accept my books from the other boy and noticed the most peculiar marking on his forehead. "And you got something on your head. What is that, a stick? A tree? No, a... lightning bolt? What is that about?" All three of them turned to stare at me. "Blimey, Harry, she doesn't know who you are. He's HARRY POTTER. You know, The Boy Who Lived?" The red-haired boy was talking pretty slowly to me, as if I were a two-year-old. The girl crossed her arms and rolled her eyes at him. "Is he always this condescending?" I asked her. She snorted. "Of course not. He barely has five brain cells. I'm Hermione, by the way," she added. "Ron," said the red-haired boy. "Harry," said the last of the three. "It's refreshing, actually, to see someone who doesn't know of me." My face reddened. "No, I do know of you, it's just in Virginia, you're famous, but you don't live there, so it's not like we talk about you 24/7. And it's Layla." Hermione picked up my last book. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Layla. We'll be seeing you at Hogwarts?" I said yes, and we all said our goodbyes. But I had a feeling that this wouldn't be the last I saw of these three; I would definitely be seeing more of this trio at school.
  6. Nothing really happened over the last week before the Hogwarts Express left the station. Every day, I went into Diagon Alley and explored all the various shops. Each shop had its own clear personality, and I was intrigued by all of them. I already had a wand, but I couldn't help going into Ollivander's to check out the place, even watch some youngsters get some wands of their own. My wand was still pretty amazing, but the best kind came from Ollivander's. Even wizards in America knew that. Many of the richer ones even travelled all the way to London to give their kids a wand from Ollivander.
  7. On the last day before the I left for Hogwarts, I walked out from Ollivander's and proceeded to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. The guy in front of me in line was so engrossed in his _Quidditch Through the Ages_ book that he didn't notice it was his turn to place his order. "Hey, dude," I said, nudging him. "Your turn." He turned around and looked at me. He was an older guy, but he was still pretty cute. If I'm being truthful, I might've blushed a little. "Um, right," he said. "Hold my book?" I took his book and waited until he got his ice cream, then got my own. "So you like quidditch?" I asked. I'd given him back his book, and he was holding it protectively as to not get any ice cream drippings on it. "Oh, definitely," he replied. "Oliver, by the way. You go to Hogwarts?" "Layla. And I'm transferring there this year. My old school got blown up." He smiled. "Nice. Well, you're looking at the quidditch-obsessed captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team." I returned his smile. "That would be impressive if I knew what Gryffindor was." Oliver gaped at me. "How do you not know the houses of Hogwarts?" I held up my hands in defense. "Hey, I transferred from America. We don't have a "˜Gryffindor' at my school." "Well, Gryffindor is one of four houses at Hogwarts. The houses are Gryffindor, the brave, Ravenclaw, the clever, Hufflepuff, the loyal, and Slytherin, the ambitious. Each of the four houses was named after one of the four founders of Hogwarts. I don't know which one they'll put you in, as you're not a First Year, and only First Years get sorted, but still." "And each house has a quidditch team?" I asked. "Yep. Our quidditch pitch is pretty nice too. I could show you when we get to Hogwarts, if you want."
  8. We both threw our ice cream cups away. Over the course of our talk, we had meandered through the shops, and somehow we ended up in front of Quality Quidditch Supplies. Looking in the window, there was something in the store that hadn't been there a week before. Almost in a trance I walked through the door as the allure of the most sleek, perfect broom pulled me in. "What is that?" I asked Oliver in a dazed voice. "That's the Firebolt," he said in wonder. "It's the newest, most aerodynamic broom made yet. It cleaves through the air with perfection. It's such a smooth ride you'd only have to put half the effort into turning as you would in the Nimbus2001." I took a peek at the price tag and gasped. "But it's 2000 galleons! Who could afford such a thing?" Oliver sighed. "Not me. But what I wouldn't give to take a ride on that thing." I took one more look of longing at the broom before looking out the window, at the sky. "It's dusk," I said. "I should probably be going." I knew I had to go, but I a part of me just wanted to stay with Oliver for a bit longer. We were having so much fun, and Oliver was such a fun guy to hang out with. But the darkening sky foretold of the Hogwarts Express the next day, and I had to rest up for that." "Yeah, you probably should," OLiver agreed. "It was nice to meet you, Layla. See you on the train?" "Definitely," I replied. I walked out of the shop. I only turned back to look at Oliver once, and he was still staring longingly at the broom that flew around in his dreams but could never become a reality.
  9. So, guys, how do you like the story so far? I know, I know, I'm horrible for not putting Fred and George and Draco in there, but I wanted to save them for the train. So sorry, Fred/George and Draco fans!!!
  10. I'm thinking about cutting a guy out of the story since I have seven but there are only six answer slots. I know I want it to be either Cedric or Oliver that gets cut, so let me know in the comments!!!
