Oh thank you, Carri. It helps alot
-
The other day I had to use black for shading because I couldn't blend anything properly. It looked awful.
-
I think black is good for shading, although grey may look a little better to blend in and mix all the cold colors together. But I think it matters about tone, if you want to shade, then shade with the same exact color that you want to shade, but a bit darker.

Bada bing bada bam bada boom
(some uncolored BS idk) -
what, is it really bad or something i'm so sorry
anyways time for me to talk more about colour theory
THIS IS ASSUMING THERE IS NO SPECIAL LIGHTING INVOLVED
the colours marked base in each category (blue, orange) are the exact same colours in each vs. The first one is adding black and white to make the shading and highlight, and the second one is the variants that I do. The second one creates more visual interest while the first one is bland and flat.
This is a mistake a lot of young artists make (I did too frick it took me til like two months ago to correct it) because no one tells you these things and it's the easiest and most obvious ways to go about it.
there's a lot more to colour theory than this that can help you create even better colour combos and I've said so before that this is to create visual interest. Tone does come into play and change things up but typically, the first option is frowned upon. -
I mean is my tutorial really bad so that it caused a WHAT xD

f--- I AM SLOW AS s--- SORRY I GOT REALLY DISTRACTED
Anyways!! You can pretty much use Ting's method for male hair too. Yes guys can have long curly hair too. Just make the hair shorter depending on your preferences.
Er.. What I usually do is a rough sketch first so I can get a feel of what I want the hair to look like. Then I specific where the root (origin-ish kinda) of the strands will be, which is where all the hair strands will lead back.
For spiky hair I do "two roots", one in front and one in the back. I'm not sure if that makes sense but if you look at the picture I think you should get the jist of it. Uh I don't do much of a good job at explaining I'm sorry, I'm more of a "come here and let me show you" type of person. ;w;

f--- my images are always too large
