Well, if you've heard of the mash-up thingy that has been going around here, you should know that I've decided to participate in it, and my partner, Cometlight, and I are already planning!

  1. I had spent ten dollars at the farmer's market already. Mostly on fruit, though, since my room didn't also provide me with a kitchen, unfortunately. I got bananas, apples, mangoes, and grapes—some of my personal favorites that would last me about two weeks before they spoiled completely. After that I went to the local grocery store and bought all my favorite snacks, some Caprisun, cereal, and treats for Comet. I bounced from shop to shop, mostly window shopping before I got my next allowance from my parents (which they just started today), and soon found myself carrying yet another bag filled with a dock for my iPod. I had spent nearly a hundred dollars when I pushed open the cafe door and heard the little bell go off. A little more spending couldn't hurt, considering that it was my money this time. The cafe was dim, which set off a more mellow tone compared to the heavy bustling just outside. It also wasn't crowded next to the Starbucks I saw on the other side of the shops, which I was thankful for.
  2. I chose a table in the corner of the shop, noting a girl looking a little older than me walking up the stairs to a small stage and taking a seat on a piano stool. A waiter then came, notepad at the ready. "May I help you?" she asked in a warm tone. I noted from her name tag that her name was Dots. "Um, I'll just have a Hot Chocolate," I replied with a smile, flicking my eyes back at the girl at the piano whom started singing—her voice a nice sultry sound. "Are you interested in doing a gig?" Dots asked, noticing me staring. I tore my eyes off the girl and looked at Dots as if she were joking. "A gig? Here?" She laughed. "No, a gig at the Chocolate Mountain; of course here!" I glanced back at the girl then at the audience whom were watching her as if under a spell. "I'm not comfortable with...I mean, I can play guitar and I suppose I can sing, but...I have school."
  3. Dots looked at the clock behind her shoulder and back at me. "Not now, I have a free day," I assured her before she could question me. "You're from James Dawn, huh? Well we have openings at three thirty, when school gets out. And you make extra cash. And you also get discounts. And we're also desperately in need for an act, since Starbucks is taking all the good ones ever since they started having live music like us. That girl at the piano, Brynn, she's the only good one we have left." I pondered this for a moment. Extra cash? But Mom and Dad are already going to send me money. And I can't perform. Hell, I'm not even sure if I can sing well. Dots watched me with a hopeful expression. "Sorry, I'm just not good with...people." I ruin people's dreams. Dots nodded understandingly and then turned to put my order in without a word.
  4. I was back by four. When I was getting on and back off the bus when going back I saw tons of familiar faces from school going to Town Square too. I wondered if there was a place where they would all hangout. And some girls were dressed like complete sluts. Was there a club around here? I went through the office back onto school grounds and saw that many kids were hanging out in the quad, too. I passed quietly, trying not to draw attention to myself, went inside Rex Hall.It wasn't until I was standing in front of the Lobby did I remember that I had other residents. They acted the same way they had when I first walked in with my mom, giving me those same looks. Some started whispering now, though, which I didn't have a problem with, as long as I didn't hear what they had to say. I made the familiar left and walked up the stairs, which creaked on the second to last step. And then I saw it. A bright pink sticky-note on my door that read, "GO HOME". Ouch.
  5. I shifted all my bags to one hand, ripped the note off, and fumbled around with the key before I opened the door. I threw my bag on the couch, making a mental reminder to ask Naomi about my classes tomorrow. I then put all my groceries away, and decided to set up my mp3 dock and my laptop, which didn't take very long. I later found myself sitting on the floor Indian style, not knowing what to do next, while Comet occupied my bed, sleeping soundlessly like the lazy bum he is. I got my schedule our of my bag and looked it over once more: English, Geometry II, World History, blah blah blah. I then flipped it over and stared dumbfounded. On the back was a list of textbooks that I had to get from the library. I set my eyes on my empty study table. I guess that made sense. I went for my bag and dug out my James Dawn school I.D, which wasn't as hideous as I expected it to be. And I was soon off again, venturing into my new school, not having the slightest idea to where the library might be.
  6. I found it, eventually. Well, I had to ask a school adviser, but they didn't have to walk me there, so technically I did find it on my own. I walked in and felt the cool breeze of the air conditioning hit my face like a tub of ice cream would have if it were catapulted at me. My eyes glazed over the library structure, looking over every huge book shelf, every confidence building poster on the walls, every computer positioned rows, and every wooden rectangular table scattered about. Then I stopped short. Sitting at one of those tables reading, was Flame. His eyes were cast downward though, so I don't think he noticed me. I made my way to the front, hoping that I could just get my books and go.
  7. "Hi," the librarian said cheerfully. "How can I help you?" I tried keeping my voice low, just in case he recognized it. "I;m new here, and I need to get my textbooks." The librarian clicked something on the computer. "Can I see your I.D then, please?" I nodded and then handed it to her, keeping my head down by looking at the book scanner pad. I heard a beep, and then she handed it back to me. "Well then, Miss _______, I would be glad to get your textbooks!" She stood up from her chair and walked around her desk, heading towards the back. "Excuse me, Flame dear, I have to get some books for our new student. Have you met her yet?I think you two are in the same grade!" Why does the universe hate me.
  8. Flame scoot his chair in for the librarian to pass and then looked up at me with with that smirk of his. "I don't believe we have met, Ms. Bonnie. I'll introduce myself and make her feel at home while you get the books." Ms. Bonnie laughed and put a hand on his shoulder. "A fine gentleman this young man is." She then turned and disappeared through a door. I turned back around to the empty desk and kept focus on the book scanner this time. "Hi," Flame's voice said from his table, a tone of amusement in his voice. "I'm Flame Wilde. Welcome to James Dawn." My fingers curled slightly, and then relaxed. I turned around and walked over to him, placing my hands on the table. "Why'd you tell her we haven't met yet?" Flame closed his book. To Kill a Mockingbird. Impressive. "Why, does it upset you?" "No." "Then I suppose it shouldn't matter."
  9. He started spinning the book in circles on the table. "Why do you do that?" I looked at him, annoyed. "Do what?" "Scratch at your bag." I looked down at my hands and saw that they were starting to make marks. I put them down by my sides. "It's just a habit." "What's the reason behind it?" "There is none." "I don't believe you." He locked his eyes with mine, and I was struggling with holding his gaze because it made me feel so naked and vulnerable. Although I did notice that he had black specks in his eyes; it wasn't just green. "And why is that?" "There's always a reason behind everything." He started grinning again. "Like how the reason girls like me so much is my irresistible charm and my overwhelming attractiveness." I rolled my eyes. "Do you ever stop trying to be so narcissistic?" The door opened as Ms. Bonnie walked back in holding several thick paged books in her arms. He laughed. "I'm just stating the obvious." Ms. Bonnie dropped the books on the table, out of breath. "Those are some heavy ones," she said along with some over-exaggerated panting. "I couldn't find my stack of literature, though. You can just bring these to your dorm and I'll send you over the book when I find it, okay?" I took the books in my arms. "Okay, thanks." I left for the door. Flame's smile never left my mind.
  10. I dropped my books down on my study table with a loud thump. I half shut the blinds of my one and only window, just allowing the remaining few rays of sunshine to peek through. I yawned, suddenly feeling very tired and weary, and in desperate need of a nap. I opened my drawer and pulled out a matching set of green and black flannel pajamas. I brought it to the bathroom and changed, putting my hair up since I wasn't up for going out again for dinner. Flipping the bathroom light switch off, I flopped onto my bed, burying my face in my pillow. It seemed only a few seconds until I heard a knock on my door. With a low hiss from Comet and a groan from myself, I rolled out onto my feet and opened the door, annoyed by the disturbance. I was greeted by Flame, holding a literature book in his hands. He eyed me over and then grinned. "Hey, green bean." Confused for just a moment, I was about to ask him what he meant until I looked down at what I was wearing. I mocked his grin. "Ha ha, that's so funny." I grabbed the book from his hands. "Thanks." And I shut the door in his still amused face.
  11. I tossed the book alongside the others, my cheeks rosie pink. I curled up on my bed, trying to forget everything that has happened today, and soon fell asleep to the distant voices of teenagers outside, chattering and laughing like there was nothing wrong in the world.
  12. In my dream, I was walking in a sodden field of grains reaching as high as my waist. Luscious green mountains surrounded me, gray wisps of smoke billowing around the tops, and fumes of it clouding around my feet. In the middle of the field was a massive tree, its branches breaching out in all directions, creamy dark green leaves hanging so delicately. I was barefoot, my feet tinted from dirt and mud. I was walking towards the tree, and as I drew nearer I could make out a dark figure leaning against it. My pace grew faster, trying to see what the mysterious shape was. When I was a few feet away, I realized that it was a boy. He smiled at me—a friendly smile, but then it wavered, turning into a look of panic. He beckoned me to come to him quickly, something shiny glimmering on his finger, as if he were going to be late for something. I didn't move. My feet didn't want to listen. The boy's eyes grew wide, and then he disappeared into the air. I took a small step towards the tree again, almost expecting him to reveal himself. And then I felt something hot on my neck. I could feel a hand resting gently on my shoulder. I directed my eyes to it and saw a silver ring around the ring finger. I felt fingers tracing shapes on the nape of my neck, making me shudder. And then it stopped, the heat on my neck getting more intense. And then there was a whisper. "Run."
