  1. "What have you done?!" I was able to find my voice. I was about to lunge at him when he showed me a walkie-talkie. "This is fake serum," he said, gesturing to his pocket. "The real serum is in the hospital area, where your dear Alex is. Try doing anything to me then I tell them and they will inject the serum into Alex's blood system, creating who knows what." I forced myself to keep still. "Why him?" Oath laughed as if it was ridiculously obvious. "I might hold back though. How about we just get the whole group back together before making any official decisions?" I balled my fists up by my sides. "Don't you dare touch him." Oath grinned. Suddenly I felt a zap of electricity surge through me in such a shocking matter I fell to the floor onto my back. The pain was electrifying, as if I was sucked into a black hole and all my molecules smashed together until I was a mere dust particle. I tried screaming out, but there was a burning sensation everywhere and I couldn't manage the pain. I wanted to die.
  2. "Don't tell me what to do," Oath said nonchalantly. I realized that he stopped zapping me, but it still felt like he was. I was twitching on the ground, trying to find some comfort, trying to stop it. I smelled myself burning, and I saw that my hair was a bit singed. My breathing was hard and heavy, and I wished that Oath could just fall into a pitiful dark hole and rot in there for all of eternity. I could feel my life trying to break away and just give up, and I almost let it until I heard a door whoosh open. I slowly turned my face sideways to look at what it was, half expecting to see one of Oath's men. "_______!" But it was Christofer.
  3. I wanted to tell him to leave me. I didn't want him to experience the same pain that I had just endured. I didn't want him near Oath any longer. But I knew he wouldn't listen, and I knew I could barely talk anyways. I felt him kneel down next to me, molding my cheek with his reassuring hand. "Be glad I didn't kill her." His gaze snapped to Oath, and suddenly he was flown backwards. Oath hit the wall behind him and got up with a laugh. What a demented being. "Ouch." My mind was fuzzy. My mind was fuzzy and everything was a blur and in any minute I swore I was going to pass out. I don't know if Oath did anything to Christofer, and I was grateful for that because I did not want to know. Although I'm sure Oath threatened Christofer with the serum injection to Alex. That's the only thing that could stop both of us from doing anything, I think. I heard a thud next to me. The last thing I remembered before passing out was Christofer's limp body laying next to mine.
  4. Alex was dazed. His eyes were closed, but he was more or less conscious. He wondered where he was"”definitely not dead, at least. He stirred in what seemed like a small bed and opened his eyes to see a fire illuminated ceiling. He tried moving his hands to shield his eyes from the sudden light when they restrained. He sat up in an instinct and saw that his hands and his feet were strapped down to a bed as if he were a mental person in an asylum. "Sorry." He looked to his left and saw Misty sitting down in an armchair. So it wasn't a dream, he thought. He thought that perhaps Misty was a figment of his imagination, or possibly one of Oath's tricks. But he knew her anywhere. "I assume Oath told you to do this?" Misty squirmed in her seat uncomfortably, the light catching her face in the most perfect angle. "Yeah. But don't worry, I didn't try raping you while you were unconscious." Alex smiled flittingly, reminded of the amusing conversations Misty and he used to have together late at night on the phone or huddled together in a blanket watching the clouds run by. "That's good. Although I would know why you would have such an idea. I mean, look at me." This made Misty laugh, a sound he's been vying to hear ever since her death, and yet haunted him. It was silent for a few moments until Alex asked, "What are you planning to do with me, then?"
  5. Misty flicked her eyes at him and then to the ground. "You'll see later on. I'd rather not be the one to tell you." Alex strained his hands again, trying to slip them free. It was no use. "Why are you working with him? With Oath?" Misty caught her breath, and for a moment, Alex saw a hint of violence and anger in her eyes as if he were the one to set it off. "Because he promised me something." Alex was confused. "What did he promise?" Misty smiled"”the type of smile you see in the horror movies with the maniac killers that are just about to hack you to the pieces with their butcher knives. "You."
  6. Alex didn't have the time to react when the door of the room opened. Two men walked in, dragging at first unfamiliar bodies across the floor, hauling them onto the ground next to the gurney that Alex was in. "They'll be waking up soon," one of the men said. The other grunted and they shuffled out the door. Alex strained his neck to see the bodies and saw that it was Christofer and ______. "That's her?" Misty asked, sounding unimpressed. Alex barely heard her. He tried getting out of the straps again, but they were just too tight on his wrists. "Why are they here?" he asked, starting to get worried. He didn't mind now that Oath and them were going to do something to him. As long as she was safe. As long as she was with Christofer. If she couldn't be with him, she deserved Christofer. That was the only exception. But now they were here, and he didn't understand. He calmed himself down when he remembered the guard saying they would wake soon. And right on time, he heard a small groan. Misty looked like she didn't care. "Where are we?" They both sat up, Christofer rubbing his head. "Guys," Alex started, "get up!" They responded to his voice and started getting on their feet. They both looked rather disoriented, _____ looking as if she just got off a grill. She squinted her eyes at Alex and then smiled, not noticing Misty in the background. "Alex!" She hugged him, looping her arms around his neck and beckoned the straps. Christofer tried getting them loose, but they wouldn't budge. She narrowed her eyes at the girl sitting in the armchair. "Is that"”" Then the door burst open again, and in came a man that Alex never wanted to see again.
  7. He looked way different; his hair a different color, his skin a shade paler, his eyes a little more insane. But Misty had been right. Something inside Alex wanted to coil up into a ball and hide under the covers, while another wanted to run up and punch the guy in the face. "Hello, Alex," the man said with a grimacing smile. Alex remained emotionless. "Dad."
  8. I was definitely disoriented. The scene was blurry and I think my hearing is off too. I thought I heard Alex calling Oath dad. I almost laughed out loud until I saw the dead serious expressions on everybody's faces. That's when I realized that it was true. I knew Oath looked familiar. I just didn't know it was Robert. Christofer put his hand on my arm, pulling me slightly towards him while I touched Alex's hand just to remind him that I was there. "You've grown up so much," Oath noticed, stepping closer, his arms outstretched as if wanting a hug. "Yeah, it's nice knowing all those bruises and cuts you gave me cleared up." Alex's voice was full of such hatred it scared me. I heard a movement and peered over my shoulder to see a brunette girl standing up from the armchair. She looked like Misty. She looked identical to Misty. But I knew it couldn't be. Right?
  9. "You're still on that? What's the phrase humans use? Ah yes. Forgive and forget." Oath's eyes glazed over Christofer and me. His grip tightened on my arm, making me feel safe and comforted as long as he was with me. As long as both of them were with me. Then he glanced beyond us. "Misty," he said in an airy tone, "please get the serum." I heard footsteps clatter away, getting fainter and fainter until I could hear no more. Christofer, Alex, and I exchanged glanced. Christofer and I shielded Alex with our bodies. "Kill us first then." Oath laughed like we were pathetic little amateurs in his little game. He swished his pointer finger effortlessly and we both were pinned against the wall, every part of our bodies except our faces paralyzed. We dropped onto the ground, and then a purple shield bubbled around us. I tried moving, but a shock of electricity flushed through my finger, my brain screaming not to do it anymore. Who knew how much electricity my body could handle. Misty came back holding three shots"”each a different color. One was blue, red, and another green. the needles were so long they looked like bamboo skewers. Alex remained silent, trying to stay strong, but I could tell from his eyes he was terrified. Oath was grinning the whole time. "Imagine if this works. Nobody would be as powerful as my army..." Misty handed one shot to him. "No!" I screamed out. My voice was void and unimportant as Oath thumped the shot with his finger. "Stop!" Christofer gave me a look meaning to say we couldn't do anything about it. Then it dawned on me. We couldn't. "I'll do it! I'll be the test for the serum!" We couldn't, but I could.
  10. "No!" Christofer and Alex shouted simultaneously. Oath handed the shot back to Misty as if he were expecting me to do it. I was starting to think this was the plan all along. "What did you say?" He asked with a menacing smile. I sighed. "I said you inject the serum into me. Let Alex go." The purple bubble evaporated at the same time Alex's restraints removed. At the exact second however, Alex was thrown into the same spot I was in, a bubble now encasing him. "What are you doing?!" Christofer and him yelled. Christofer tried getting out of the purple, and flinched. "Let me do it instead!" he volunteered. "Oath, you took her powers, she only has what that voice is giving her, let me"”" "Dammit, Christofer, I just got you back!" I cut in. I told myself I wasn't going to cry. In a quieter voice this time, "I just got you back. I'm not going to lose you again. I can't keep letting you two fight my battles. We're not even sure if the serum will even do anything that drastic. I have to do this. And don't even try to talk me out of it because of all people, you two should know I'm a stubborn little b--ch when it comes to these things. If I let one of you do it then I'm never going to be completely happy with the other. Just please. Please just let me do this, and let me repay you guys for everything you've done for me. I love you, both. I really do." I turned my back, and yet they still kept protesting. I sighed, knowing this would happen. But I let Alex do it, then I lose him. If I let Christofer do it, I lose him. In the end it's just me. I'm surprised that Oath let me have that moment. Of course, I bet he was enjoying every second of it as if it were an Oscar nominated film.
  11. I lay down slowly on the gurney, hearing Christofer and Alex's voices stringing through the air as beautiful as a church choir"”despite the fact that they were yelling at me. I lay my hands by my side as Misty strapped them down along with my ankles. Oath loomed over me with a grin reminding me of Cheshire from Alice in Wonderland. And then I'm scared. I'm scared that Robert is going to do what he did to Alex. I was frightened immensely by this man. He was a child abuser. He was a wife abuser. He was insane. "Misty will do the procedure on you. I have a few things to discuss with my...son. Oh, and I'll put Christofer with somebody, so that he doesn't miss out on the fun." And then I'm scared for Alex. It still hasn't dawned upon me that Oath is Alex's father. Oath is Robert. The man that scarred Alex for life. The man that sent him to the hospital. The man that helped create him. It was almost impossible to think about. And then there was Misty. Alex had told me that she died in his arms, and yet here she was. Although she didn't look real. She kind of looked like a ghost if you asked me. As I lay there, I heard feet shuffling, my name being called, and then noises of resistance. Finally I heard the door close. And yet I didn't regret anything. I knew I had to do this, and in some ways I hope they know that I had to as well. I didn't want to say anything else to them while I was laying down because if anything did in fact happen to me, I wanted my "I love you" to be my last words towards them. And I didn't want to cry either. Because I know for a reason that would just make them sad. And yet I'm hoping nothing will happen to me. At the same time I'm hoping something will, out of curiosity. And then Misty took out a shot with a silver liquid inside, almost the same color as Oath's hair. It was sedation, she had said, because she didn't know if the procedure hurt or not. I'm surprised that they cared enough to knock me out. And as my eyes went hazy, and my body went numb, I made a promise to myself that no matter what happens, I will fight all odds and do anything it takes to kill the man they call Oath. And he is not the only one who keeps his promises.
