  • I'm a little disturbed by the thought of someone getting below 100%, unless they chose the fourth answer to question ten, in which case it's the maker's fault. This is the type of test one might expect towards the beginning of grade school. Public education (or lack thereof) doesn't appear to be doing its job, and I'm sure writing shorthand as often as people do isn't helping anything. To me, there's little excuse for the latter -- it's just plain lazy. "Lyk" versus "like", for example. What the hell is that? If people think it's cool, let me tell you: it isn't cool in the slightest to write like a five-year-old.

I'm fifteen, for the record, and someone who's looking for a career in writing.

  • I got 92% originally but saw the comment from 11 years ago saying if I chose the fourth one from that one question Id get less than 100%, (the one that had 2 of the same answers so it was annoying to pick) so I went back and changed it and yeah I got 100%. I dont actually think most people should get 100% because yknow. Some people dont understand apostrophes that well, even me, I just knew cause I was thinking about it. Also I know all of this stuff but cant be bothered to fix it all when Im writing because whats the point? Unless Im doing an essay or writing a story which is fun but yeah. Sometimes I just put full stops in random places haha I am doing it in the comment I am,,, so coOl!!!1! But yea I type pretty weirdly sometimes anyway Im gonna go also I am 15 also I feel like a stupid person that the only think I know are grammar and spelling things yet I dont use that fully anyway wow Im sad I am not smart it any way wow I just made myself sad ok Im gonna go

  • 100% What a surprise! ;-))

This quiz is a good way to brush up on grammatical skills and punctuation. As a writer, that is important for me.

I'm glad to see that there are other people who *do* care whether or not they sound intelligent. It just irks me when I see people writing "prolly" instead of "probably," "different than" instead of "different from," or using "then" and "than" interchangeably.

I made a quiz about grammar earlier today, called How's Your Grammar? It's a different type of quiz, though, more about spelling and using the correct word to fill in the blank.

  • I agree with Chrissy Smith. I should have been given 100 per cent. as well for the same reason as her's, as I got everything correct. The AI, however, awarded me only 92 per cent. I am not impressed. If you present a quiz specifically to test grammar skills, then the answers should be checked "with a fine tooth comb" to ensure that they are totally accurate and unambiguous. This has clearly not been done - and this quiz is therefore a waste of time - a pointless exercise.

  • Wow, 100% should be a breeze to anyone older than 10. What kind of crap shoot is this country's education system?

I feel sorry for anyone who comes to comment and uses bad spelling or grammar while trying to prove a point that they're more knowledgeable than someone who commented below them. "Ur", "cuz"... these are things this quiz is about. For heaven's sake, spell out "you're" and "because".

I know you know how, so stop thinking you're cool for being dumb. Hell, even someone who speaks English as a third language got a 95%

  • I got 100%. Well I should hope so after receiving a 5 on my AP English Language test (the highest score. I am bragging right now...I apologize. XD)

*Cries from happiness at seeing a quiz on this* Thank you! Really, really, thank you!! People who don't know their own language really make me lose faith in the human race. Really, people, it's not that hard (notice the little thing in the "its"? It's called an apostrophe! It indicates omission of a letter! =O There, I spread the word. LOL!).

  • 100%.

Also, the whole monkey's vs monkeys' thing is hotly contested even between English professors, so thank you for not having both forms of it as an option.

Good job not putting color, colour or other words that are different in different area's idea of english.

Funny thing: The only word I have ever taken a year to learn was torture. No idea why, but it took me a while.

  • From a high school English/grammar teacher: The only error I found on this quiz is question #10. This question contains the "Who's/your" answer twice, but if you select answer D, it will score your answer incorrectly. The monkey question is worded and scored correctly. Remember, folks, the use of the apostrophe in words such as you're and they're indicate two words combined into one.

  • Bro you know what nevermind all these people seem so like annoying, I can write however I want lol and it just saves time to write ur and people understand it so whats the point in writing like that? Also some of them are kind of ignorant like there are some good reasons that someone got less than 100%/92%, what if they were dyslexic? (I feel like that is actually more for spelling and not grammar but idk I dont remember what the questions were in the quiz) anyway yeah and some people honestly dont care about their spelling and grammar because it isnt the most important thing in the world. What about some person who dedicated their life to doing a sport that seems fun to them and they were amazing at it, then they said something and didnt have perfect grammar would you call them an idiot? Like theyre just smarter at other things also idk if anyone else ever thought of this but some people when they look at words and have to learn what they mean it gives them a headache Im saying this cause that happens to me with math like I hate maths it is too confusing and literally gives me a headache I cried cause I had to do math homework cause it HURT MY HEAD literally and I am using literally in its correct usage thing ok

And, to everyone mentioning the monkey question, the plural form of monkey is monkeys. It's weird, different than many other plural forms, but it's right. I just thought I should put that out there, I guess.

English, grammar usage, etc. is important and I'm glad to see people taking it seriously. Nowadays, internet is a big thing, that means that typing is also a big thing. If you want to be taken seriously (and I don't mean by friends or anything of the sort, I mean business- or professional-wise) then it would be a good thing to be able to use the correct forms and to spell or write correctly.

I hope I don't sound like some crazy, grammar-loving individual, or some pompous brat, because that is totally not what I want to come off as, lol. As you can see, I use internet abbreviations as well, and I am not even close to being perfect. I was just trying to say that this stuff is actually important and it can help get you even farther in life.

Way to go! You know not to trust the MS Grammar Check and you know "no" from "know." Now, go forth and spread the good word (or at least, the proper use of apostrophes)."

    S o I'm 'gooder' at grammar then?

I'm glad to see there are people who care about grammar though. It's more important than most people realize.

  • I missed the last one because I answered the true/false problem, instead of choosing to correct the quiz-maker's mistake. You didn't tell us that we should correct any mistakes in the quiz instead of answering the question. After all, it is a true/false problem, and even though there is a mistake, we understand what is being said.

  • Ummm, you might want to check question 10. There are two choices exactly the same. The first choice scores correct, the second incorrect.

Also, have grammar rules changed since the 70's. I seem to remember being taught the use of apostrophes to indicated possession.

I'd expect as much, being raised by an editor/writer for commercials and the like, and big on writing myself.

  • I got 100%! Figure, I get straight a's, oh well now I'm bragging, too. Sorry.

Meganium is right. It's good that you should make a quiz about something actually important. Even though I have made quizzes about things that are unimportant. Haha. Well, loved the quiz, thnx for makin it!

  • I liked the quiz over all but maybe you could be a tad cleaner with the answers instead of having the punctuation so close, it confused me a bit. I don't like it when people spell or say things wrong, it's just plain annoying. I also love writing! 9/10 * GREAT!

  • I'm glad that SOMEBODY tries hard to help the human race with learning their own language correctly! I mean for goodness sakes I am ashamed for those that don't know how! It's embarassing and I totally agree with Meganuim! No surprises there!!!

  • Listen: Nobody has to have perfect grammar. All I'm saying is that it makes a person look less smart if they can't even differentiate between the there, they're and their or your and you're, which I see frequently misused.

You're getting warmer. Remember, possessive pronouns don't have apostrophes but contractions do. Oh, and word processing grammar checkers often lie.

    Simple.

I'm only fifteen, but I've been typing entirely literately for about four years now.

I guess it helps that I've supposedly had the grammatical ability of an eighteen-year-old since I was nine.
