"Mommy....." I quietly said, and grabbed Spotty with the hand Rose didn't have. I stared at the digital clock, tears on my face. -
I wrapped my one arm around him and held him, "Shh...its okay, its okay, its okay to cry, its okay to be sad, its okay, everything will be okay...." I said in my most soothing voice, I gently stroked his hair,'I remember my mother doing this to me when I was a kid and I was upset about something, "Sh..."

I let her do what she was doing. I was shaking.
"When's mommy coming home?" I asked, wanting nothing but my mother to be standing in front of me, giving me a goodnight hug. -
"I don't know" I said, answering in a whisper. I moved to the front of him, I gently used my finger to wipe away any tears running down his face. "I'm sorry I can't help you" I said softly. I wanted to help him, I wanted to make him happy. But I did not know how.

I shoved my face into Spotty. "I just want Mommy." I whispered a couple times. I knew Rose was trying to be nice...I liked her kindness.

"I know...I know" then, I just hugged him tightly and softly said, a tear running down my cheek. "I wish I could bring her back, if I could I would.....I'm sorry, I'm so sorry" I said softly

"Sorry doesn't cut it......Daddy said sorry. Sorry's no good. No good...." I dropped Spotty and hugged Rose instead.

"No, your right. Sorry is no good. Sorry doesn't cut it" I said repeating what he told. I gently ran my fingers through his hair and softly whispered, "Is there anything you want that I can get for you?"

I didn't reply. Despair showered over me, like a flash flood. I sighed shakily.
Yes....I want mommy... I thought. I let out a scared, sad breath, and pulled a nearby comforter over top of me. -
"You can...pretend I'm mommy...?" I suggested softly, I didn't know whether it would help or not. I gently kissed the top of his head in a motherly way. "Just tell me what mommy's like and Rose will turn into mommy"

"Mommy..." I repeated...I tilted my head at her idea. I stood, and rummaged through some papers, and gave her my mothers pretty handwritten lyrics to her lullaby.

I nodded my head and smiled, "Mommy" I repeated. I looked over the lyrics carefully, they were beautiful, really sweet. I sang to one of the lullaby's. They sounded so beautiful

I lightly smiled at her melodic singing. My head swayed to the tune and I closed my eyes gently putting it on a pillow.

When I finished the song I smiled seeing him lying down. I gently wrapped a blanket around him and placed Spotty inside his arms. I kissed his forehead and smiled. "Goodnight" I whispered softly, moving the hair out of his eyes

"Night night..." My eyes slowly closed...
