"Come on, then." He walked to the end of the hall, and turned to wait for her. -
I followed quietly.

They made their way to the parking lot. He opened the passenger side of a beat-up, old Volvo for her.

"Thanks," I said getting.

He shut the door behind her and walked around the driver's side. He got in and started the car, driving out of the parking lot. -
I looked at my feet, bored.

He pulled up to a group of run-down apartments and parked the car. "Okay, we're here."

"Um, where are we?" I asked.

"I asked you to help me and come home with me afterward, and you said yes." He shrugged. "It's not very great, but it's home."

BRB, although I doubt you'll respond tonight.

"Oh," I said.

He nodded and shrugged. "C'mon."
