but why isn't it today
I just stay alive
why aren't I gone? -

sandpaper wings
that flutter against my chest
kept inside a brittle
matchstick bird nest.
all tied together
with ribbons and a smile
shattered at the clumsy seams
with a tempest of guile.
my birdcage of bones
fracturing at its joints
splitting paper skin
gradually to the breaking point.
a broken-winged bird inside itself
one song from a shout
folding its fragile wings in
to keep everyone else out. -

Like a bird
Who chirps and whistles
And never ceases to be heard.
Who I am
Is found in my poetry,
My thoughts in lines and verses
For all the world to see.
Like a painter with a muse
I'm imaginative, and I am me -
