It pays off. It teaches you how to observe and understand. It may seem harder, but it helps when you have to do something on your own.
I don't know where I'd be artistically if I hadn't done this. -
Then again, there were some detailed anime back then.
and by some i mean quite a few. -
One thing that helps me along with references and observation is inspiration
I have a huge folder of inspiring artwork I found on DA and tumblr and it always gets me in the mood to draw and improve
right now im working on a more detailed background drawing -
so many recommendations
so much choice
lots of options
many possible decisions -
I see.
ye
I've tried these things you guys are telling me before, though. It hasn't really gotten me that far. -
The best thing you can do is keep trying. Progress doesn't happen instantaneously.
-
Have you tried emulating a certain style and stick with it if you like it? i know this sounds like a dumb question, but heres my way of explaining it:
You know how i love egoraptor, right? well, he does animations. seeing as i love that artist, i decided to emulate his artwork.
After time, i came to get really good at this style due to the fact i would emulate so many of his drawings, i knew how he drew arms and legs and stuff like that, allowing me to create original art with the style i learned from using his art as a reference.
of course, some art is harder to replicate, so i wouldnt recommend going to try replication extremely detailed stuff, but you can if you want to.
this make any sense to you? -
The thing is that most people try to emulate the anime art style as a whole, unaware of the fact that not all anime have the exact same art style. sure, at first glace they look the same, but the differences can make a big difference. so, off goes the aspiring artist, drawing anime characters of their own, making the mistake of mixing two different anime styles and end up making the final product weird and unnatural.
-
Copying a style directly is so gross tho
-
sel, once you copy a style, you can modify it to your liking. im not saying you have to do exactly what the other artist does, but its a good way to learn.
-
Yeah but usually that doesn't happen? Most people just learn to copy and then... copy?
As for the "progress isn't instantaneous" thing, I can show you guys some stuff -
You just have to practice and let it improve on your own. There's nothing else that they can say, practice will be worth it in the end. A gifted artist truly DOESN'T exist in some terms. Even the best artists in the Renaissance period were bat f--- insane in the mind but knew how to express their thoughts in art somehow, but they went through troubles. It's a natural artist cycle that could be dated back to those painters, I'm assuming. *shrugs*
-
okay but please stop acting like I just started drawing okay I've been trying for like four years or smthn I'm not stupid I've tried these things
what -
same and i'm still improving yo
-
then of course, were abstract artists.
i will never understand how a multicolored shapes is worth thousands of dollars.
@sel theres nothing that can be done about people who do that. but since we're on the subject of related art-styles...
