Darkness! Hey the purple on the griffin you have is just showing it's Awakened. You can Awaken monsters with essences you get from the dungeons. :3

No. You can awaken all your monsters unless they are silver stared. But you have to go to the wonderful dungeons to actually get some essences to get any of them to awaken.
