"Three Key Achievements in the Ming Dynasty
The Mings were well known for their grand building projects. One example is the Forbidden City. In the Forbidden City it was a large complex that was used as for the Emperor's birthday, special occasions, and meetings during the Ming Dynasty. Within the building there were 9,000 rooms. (World History, Pg 184) In the Forbidden City, it was home to many of the emperors. When making this building, it took over 20,000 laborers to work on the building. Once it was done it was known as the largest building in the world. (Document 2, Building the Forbidden City, HRW.)
Another key achievement in the Ming Dynasty was that it was one of the most stable and prosperous in China. Emperors of the Ming Dynasty were more strict and punishable than Tang and Song rulers. They had big government official building and only those who were appointed can work in big government buildings. Emperors are also fiercely protective of their power. (World History, Pg 186)
The last key achievement was Zheng He and his voyages. Zheng He led several different voyages around Asia (It was a grand total of seven voyages.) These voyages all had huge fleets that followed him, the largest being a voyage that had 60 ships and more than 25,000 sailors. His fleets traveled throughout the Indian Ocean, going far west towards the Persian Gulf and trailing east towards the coast of Africa. His voyages were not useless, however. All of his voyages were meant to be a sort of show and tell to boast about Chinas power and wealth. He presented all of these things to many different leaders that realized just how great China was. These boasts were so great that he managed to encourage the foreign leaders to send gifts to Chinas emperor. On one voyage, Zheng He returned to China with representatives that came from many different countries that wanted to give the emperor gifts. Even though his voyages did NOT lead to something as big as lets say a trading route, he was able to get the idea across to other countries that China had a lot of power. (World History, Pgs 183-184)
How did Ming power contribute to China during the period?
Ming power was contributed to China during the Ming period because the rulers of the Ming period restored of all its power and prosperity that was taken during the Yuan period.
(Notes on How the Ming power contributed:
On page 183, it states that During the Ming dynasty, the Chinese improved their ships and their sailing skills.
On page 184, it states that The Ming were also known for their grand building projects. Many of these were designed to impress both the Chinese people and their enemies to the north.
On page 185, it states that During the Ming dynasty, Chinese society began to change (ect.))" -
Read it over with him to see if it sounds awkward or if it could be used as a speech.
