I entered, smiling back at him. "Relax, you'll do fine," I whispered. -
"I just hope he listens," I say as I walk in behind you.

"He should, it's a good plan."

I shrug, "It has some holes in it, but what plan doesn't?"

"Exactly." I patted him lightly on the back. "Now go pitch your plan and get him to accept it."

I smile, "thanks coach," We stop outside his office, "here we go"

It was his plan, so I allowed him to enter first.

I take a breath, and open the door.
Turner is doing paperwork and doesn't look up: "yes?"
"Sir, Id like to talk to you about our future operations."
Turner: "what do you mean Walker?" -
I stood outside the office. I could hear them, but didn't want to interfere.

"Sir, the bombers at Rigley are the knives at our throat, the Schezna array gives them amazing radar coverage, and the reports of the Agier fleet sailing are all things we need to deal with."
"And how do you propose this, Walker?"
"Sir, I want to lead a small flight of aircraft to Rigley and Schezna, loaded for air to ground, and turn Rigley into a junkyard and Schezna into a mountain inhospitable again."
"Walker, we cant waste these assets." -
I listened quietly.

"Sir, if we dont do anything the bombers will keep coming, our forces remaining on the mainland will be cut off and crushed, and we will be destroyed. Sir, we cant not act."
Turner: "Walker, with all due respect, I appreciate your guts, but you are only a pilot, not a general. Things are different up here." -
My jaw clenched involuntarily. Things weren't going well. C'mon, Alex!

"How different is it, sir? I see it coming out the same way if we dont act. We lose. And our nation exists only in the history books."
"Damnit Walker! Do you understand what position im in? We may be able to call a cease fire, I cant have one gung ho pilot screw that up!"
"Sir, they wont settle for peace. They want us off the map. When we do have to negotiate, why not do it from a position of strength? And whos to say theyd honor the peace? They have three knives at our throat, and we need to remove those so we can have a fighting chance." -
I slumped against the wall. Stupid Turner...
