Bright Light in the Darkness

  1. I was running, running through darkness. I ran along the wet grass, my bare feet sinking in the mud. I had to keep running. I didn't dare look back. If I was caught I would be letting down everyone. My sister, Lisinia, my best friends, Mika and Chitae, my parents and anyone else who had died for me. I ran straight ahead. I saw a great black lake in front of me. I didn't have time to turn. I ran straight into it and swam as quickly as possible to the other side, where I crawled up the bank and kept running.
  2. I could see the village coming back into view ahead of me. I pelted towards it. There were people everywhere, and in the darkness the village looked black. I ran forwards, in amongst the people. I knew I couldn't blend. Everything here is black. The houses are black. The people have black eyes, black hair, black clothes. Here, with my white hair and silver eyes, I stick out like a white splodge in the middle of a black canvas.
  3. I decided to hide. It was my only option. Now I was inside the village, they could be anywhere. I started pushing my way through the bustling people. No one seemed to notice me. But then again, nobody ever does. Unless there looking for me. I searched for what could have been hours, though it was probably only a few minutes. I gave up. I can't hide here. There is nowhere to hide. I'd have to get out of here, and run again.
