Hogwarts Part 55 {The End}

Will you get the Hogwarts guy of your dreams? Find out in this quiz. Starting in your third year, you will get the opportunity to become friends and more with Neville Longbottom, Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, George Weasley, and Oliver Wood.

*Recap* Last time the Battle of Hogwarts began. You and the rest of the DA began searching for the lost diadem of Ravenclaw, but after everyone else began defending Hogwarts, only you, Harry, Ron, and Hermione seemed to be looking. You lost track of the others, though, and went back to the Room of Requirement to look. However, instead of the DA meeting room, it was a room filled with old items and junk. You ran into Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle inside, and as Draco dragged you off to get to safety, a huge fire erupted right behind you.

  1. What is your age?
  2. What is your gender?
  1. Draco took my hand and jerked me to my feet, sprinting away from the fire. I didn’t know where the entrance was, but I really hoped it was the way we were heading or we were already dead. “Where did that come from?” I shouted to Draco. “Crabbe,” he said, seeming quite certain of it. “You really need new friends,” I yelled back, but we were both too focused on dodging debris and fire to continue talking. Suddenly, two brooms rose up into the air nearby, almost right above us, speeding for the entrance. I recognized the riders as Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Draco and I started screaming up to them, waving our arms, and Harry and Hermione swung around. Harry held a hand down to us. “We can only hold one of you,” he shouted down, looking back at the fire desperately. I looked at Draco. “You go,” I told him. He shook his head and exchanged a glance with Harry. I knew what was about to happen. Harry grabbed my hand and Draco pushed me up onto the broom. “I can’t-“ I protested. “Go!” Draco shouted, starting to run for the entrance again as Harry took off. I closed my eyes, unwilling to watch him get eaten by the flames and buried my face into Harry’s shoulder.
  2. The next time I opened my eyes, I went sprawling onto the stone floor outside of the Room of Requirement. We were safe. I looked over at the others to check their condition. Harry, Hermione, Ron, Goyle, and…I glanced over at them again, hardly able to believe my eyes. “Draco!” I exclaimed, scrambling to my feet. “I thought you were dead!” I said, almost hysterical with relief as I choked him in a hug. He tried to attempt a smirk, but didn’t quite succeed. “Weasley came back and got me,” he said, giving Ron a grudgingly grateful look. I gave Ron a hug as well. “Thank you,” I told him, knowing that he probably didn’t want to save him in the first place. I turned to Harry. “Did you ever find the diadem?” I asked. He smiled wryly. “Yeah. It’s taken care of,” he said without further explanation. I gave him a quizzical look, but didn’t ask any more questions; we had more pressing matters to attend to. The Death Eaters had gotten in.
  3. The Gryffindors immediately got to their feet to join the fight, but I stayed behind to speak with Draco. “I’m not very good at saving you, am I?” he said with a wry smile. “What do you mean?” I asked with a confused expression. “I’m not cut out for this. I had months to help you get out of the manor, but I was too scared to try. And this time, I almost got both of us killed because I thought it might be nice to hand Potter over myself. I don’t blame you for preferring the Gryffindors,” he said regretfully. He lowered his eyes in shame. I put a hand on his shoulder and he looked up. “I don’t prefer anyone. I just wish you would realize that yourself,” I said, and sprinted off to join the battle.
  4. There was one thing I was definitely not looking forward to about the Death Eaters arrival. My mother almost always seemed to find a way to make an appearance. But, I thought, maybe she would just get killed in the battle and I wouldn’t have to worry about her. But I shoved the thoughts out of my head. If I kept getting distracted, I was going to get killed before I even starting fighting. I ducked behind a pillar to muster some courage for a moment, and then jumped full force into the battle. I realized in about two seconds that things had gotten much worse than I had expected. Giant spiders and giants were out fighting, killing on both sides. Walls were getting blasted everywhere, and Death Eaters and castle defenders alike were dropping like flies. I spotted Neville nearby fighting alongside Oliver. I Stunned the Death Eater they were battling, and they whipped around simultaneously. "Mind if I join you?" I asked with a small smile. They grinned in response, so I took that as an invitation and joined the group. As we moved off to find another Death Eater, Oliver urged me to return to the Room of Requirement for safety, but I ignored him. He had no way of knowing that I couldn’t back even if I had wanted to.
  5. Oliver and Neville engaged in another fight, and I was about to join in when I spotted a familiar red-haired girl among the battle. Disregarding the fact that I was surrounded by potential threats everywhere, I pushed my way through every single obstacle in my way. I grabbed Arianna’s arm and pulled her around to face me. “What do you think you’re doing? I told you to leave the castle!” I said angrily. “And I didn’t want to,” she said, a bit of arrogance in her words. “Arianna, listen to me. There are hundreds of people here who want to kill you and everyone else fighting for Harry. Do you really think you’re going to make it out alive?” I asked. “I’ve been training with the DA this entire year while you were off who knows where. I know how to handle–” her words suddenly cut off, and she toppled forward into my arms. My knees bent under the dead weight, and I sank onto the floor. “Arianna?” I asked weakly. “Arianna!” I called, shaking her in a panic. She just slipped down to the floor as my arms lost the strength to hold her up. “Don’t play games with me,” I said desperately, shaking her shoulders again, but she did nothing. I looked up to see my mother standing several feet from us, her wand still out. She opened her mouth to speak, but I my wand up in an instant. She was a dead woman. She actually looked scared at the murderous light in my eyes, but she didn’t make it two steps before the green jet of light entered her body. I leaned down to her face as the light faded from her eyes, a sneer curling my lip. “I never loved you,” I hissed. My searing rage died down within seconds after that, and a stray curse nearly hit me as I knelt down by Arianna’s body again. I sat there cradling her in my arms, letting out great, heaving sobs, but I felt someone take my arm and plead with me to get up. Oliver. “Come on, Cassandra. Get up. You’re going to get yourself killed,” he said, practically lifting me to my feet. “She’s dead,” I said numbly as he led me away, unable to take my eyes off of Arianna. “I know, but you can see her again later. Let’s find somewhere for you to stay until this is over,” he said softly. I jerked my arm out of his hand. “No, I’m going to fight,” I said stubbornly, wiping away a few stray tears and marching back the way we had come. “I really don’t think you should,” Oliver called after me, but I was already gone.
  6. Arianna’s sudden death just seemed to spark a need for revenge somewhere inside me. Despite killing my mother, it just wasn’t enough. I didn’t kill anyone else in the battle, but I sent curses flying everywhere, more often than not hitting a target. But just when I felt as if I couldn’t fight anymore, Voldemort’s cold voice echoed through the castle again. According to him, we had exactly one hour to take care of the dead and hand over Harry Potter. The Death Eaters retreated for the moment, and I took the opportunity to collapse onto a bench, the fight completely taken out of me. After a few minutes, I slowly dragged myself off the bench and made my way back over to Arianna’s now ice-cold body. I pushed her hair back from her head gently and simply sat there to grieve for a while. After a few minutes, I stood up and tried to pick her up to put her next to the other fallen fighters, but she was too heavy for me to handle. “Want some help?” an older boy I didn’t recognize offered. I nodded. He took her ankles and I took her arms as we walked over to the end of the increasingly long line of bodies. “Was she your friend?” he asked. “Sister,” I replied quietly. He seemed to sense that I wasn’t willing to talk about it and after we set her down, he walked away without another word. I was about to stay with Arianna a little longer, but I found I just couldn't bear looking at her any longer. Not like that. But looking at the other bodies down the line, I saw my father knelt down by a familiar witch.
  7. I walked over, not really sure what I intended to do. I couldn't stand looking at my mother's body for an entirely different reason than with Arianna, and I carefully avoided looking at her as I walked over to my father. To my surprise, I saw a few tears rolling down his cheeks as I got closer. He quickly wiped them away as I came to a stop next to him. “She loved you, you know,” he said quietly. I stood in silence for a moment, having no comforting words to offer. He obviously still loved her, but I just couldn't understand it. “She deserved what she got,” I replied coldly, and walked away as quickly as I had come. After everything she had done, killed his second wife, and now killed his daughter, I couldn’t believe he was still grieving her death. But then again, love worked in mysterious ways. In some odd way, maybe they really were made for each other.
  8. Not knowing what else to do, I made my way over to a cluster of Weasleys. I dreaded seeing whom they were grouped around, but sooner or later, I was going to find out who had died. I stood back a little to give them some space, but couldn’t help but see a certain Weasley through the group. Fred. I gave a little choked gasp, but didn’t move any closer. They needed some space to grieve. I looked further down the line, and noticed some other bodies I recognized. Tonks, Lupin, Colin Creevey... It was the last straw. I ripped my gaze away from the bodies and walked as far as I could get from the dead faces. It was just too much. I sat on the floor and hugged my knees to my chest, taking deep, calming breaths. A kindly witch came over and gave me a small cup of tea to drink, but it did little to calm me down. A couple of my DA friends came over to see if I was okay, but I didn’t feel like talking right then. I didn't know how long I sat there, gradually beginning to let a feeling of hopelessness take over my mind. So many had died, and one even by my own wand. But as Voldemort’s voice came ringing out a third time, I felt a hundred times worse. It drilled its way into my mind and the words lingered hauntingly in my ears. “Harry Potter is dead.”
  9. I didn’t hear a word after that. Everything seemed to fall into silence except that one statement. “Harry Potter is dead.” It just couldn’t be true. Harry wouldn’t give himself up. He just wouldn’t. But as Hagrid approached carrying Harry’s limp, motionless form in his arms, things became a little bit more believable. Voldemort ordered everyone to surrender to him, and for once, I just didn’t care anymore. But some others still had some fight in them. Despite the silencing spell Voldemort had cast on the crowd, Ron, Hermione, and a couple others still managed to yell out in protest. Neville stepped forward in protest, and I silently pleaded with him not to, but I obviously couldn’t do anything to stop him when I was so far away. Voldemort offered him a position as a Death Eater, but Neville predictably rejected him. The Sorting Hat appeared in Voldemort’s hand a moment later, and he placed it on Neville’s head. “We won’t be needing this anymore. From now on, everyone shall be placed in Slytherin,” he said, and suddenly lit Neville on fire. I cried out, but Neville was hardly fazed. He pulled the Sword of Gryffindor out of the hat and lunged forward, killing Voldemort’s snake. I really didn’t know why he thought that would help, but it did succeed in causing a new battle to erupt between Harry and Voldemort’s supporters.
  10. Everything seemed to happen so quickly that I didn’t pull my wand out in time when a Death Eater aimed a curse at me. I braced myself for impact, but the jet of light was suddenly deflected and the Death Eater toppled over, Stunned. I swung around to look for the person that had saved me, but only saw empty space. I shook it off and pulled out my wand, ready to defend Hogwarts again, even if we all died in the process. I preferred that to living in a world ruled by Voldemort. I spotted Ginny, Luna, and Hermione all battling Bellatrix nearby, and joined in. “Oh, even more fun!” she said delightedly as I shot a curse at her. Even with four of us, she was still too good. Bellatrix shot a spell at Ginny, but Mrs. Weasley suddenly barged in and pushed us all back. “Not my daughter, you b----!” she yelled, and began dueling her instead. We watched in complete awe as the two witches faced off. But Bellatrix was no matter for an angry Mrs. Weasley. With a final flourish, Mrs. Weasley sent the Killing Curse right into her chest. Bellatrix toppled over dramatically, still bearing that awful, wicked smile. We all sent Mrs. Weasley admiring looks, but it wasn’t all good news. One of Voldemort’s most faithful servants had died, and he wasn’t happy about it.
  11. He turned his wand on Mrs. Weasley, and Luna, Ginny, Hermione, and I shrank back slightly, but a Shield charm blocked any spells he might have wanted to send her way. I looked at the other three girls in confusion. None of us had casted it, and Mrs. Weasley hadn’t either. But it all came wonderfully clear a moment later when Harry stepped out from under the Invisibility Cloak.
  12. Voldemort’s attention was immediately diverted. He faced Harry, and the two began to circle each other. I got over my momentary explosion of joy upon seeing Harry alive and began to fear for his life. And when he began to anger Voldemort by telling him about so many things that he thought he had succeeded on but were really planned out by Dumbledore and Snape, I really thought Harry was a dead man. And still when Harry insisted that he was the real master of the Elder Wand (whatever that was), Voldemort seemed to be driven over the edge. I wanted to close my eyes as they both lifted their wands, but I couldn’t seem to tear my eyes away. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. Voldemort shot his Killing Curse, and Harry used a Disarming Curse simultaneously. But the Disarming Curse worked. The Killing Curse rebounded off of it and instead went directly into Voldemort’s body. And to top it all off, Voldemort’s wand, the Elder Wand, landed neatly in Harry’s hand. A second later, my ears burst with the cheering of the castle’s defenders.
  13. It was a surreal moment for me. Harry was immediately smothered in praise, and I just stayed back for the moment, still rather stunned by how quickly it had all ended. Harry could revel in the glory for a while. Ron and Hermione were somewhat near him, conversing quietly. Neville was also surrounded by his own group of supporters, and Oliver was busy discussing something with another Order member. I sat down on a bench and wondered what was left for me. Everyone seemed to be celebrating, but I just felt somewhat hollow. Someone sat next to me, and I looked up. “You don’t look like you’re celebrating,” Draco commented, looking over at the cheering crowd. “I don’t know, maybe I just don’t like happy endings. But it’s not really happy is it?” I said with a sigh, looking down at the line of dead bodies again. I could tell the image of Arianna wasn’t going to disappear anytime soon, if ever. “Well, not for my family at least,” he said with a faint smirk, looking over at his parents huddled alone at a table, looking rather frightened. “Well, we’re two of a kind, I guess,” I said dryly, looking over at my own father, once more knelt by my mother, alone. I stood up and held my hand out to Draco. “C’mon.” “What?” he asked, bewildered. “We aren’t going to be the only two students at Hogwarts not celebrating,” I told him sternly. “But I’m a –” I shook my head. “He’s gone. You aren’t a Death Eater anymore. You don’t even have to be a Slytherin if you don’t want to be. Let’s go,” I said, pulling him to his feet. He smiled slightly. “I knew I liked you for a reason.” “I am pretty likable,” I teased him, the beginnings of a grin coming to my face. As we joined the crowd, I ran into Neville and gave him a hug. Oliver waved at me from across the room and grinned. George was laughing again, even though his brother was gone. And I even bumped into Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they were slipping away from the crowd, already off on another adventure. And for once, I felt like everything was going to be okay.
  14. *music826* So, it's over after just over ten months. It's time to say goodbye to this series, but it's not goodbye from me by any means. I'll still be here for a while yet. :) Oh, and I was forced to change the format of the endings. I tried and tried, but I had no idea that the results had a 1000 character limit, and even when I chopped the paragraphs down to size, it still wouldn’t accept them as entries. You'll get to read a semi-rant about that in the results, but basically I was forced to post them all in one edition. They’re all a bit similar, so it might be a bit dull reading them all, but I guess you can just read what you want after all. On another note, it feels quite odd to be done with this series, and it really hasn’t sunk it yet. I was nearly on the verge of tears writing those last few sentences after working on this for so long. I’m afraid there isn’t an “until next time” to be found here. Rather, “The End.”
