Eloise paced anxiously backstage, wringing her hands together as she listened to Casimir speak. The was hoping to have gotten a grip on her powers before the show, praying it was just a fluke or her anxiety messing with her, but they were just as off as they were the day before. She sighed softly and walked over to her dressing room, trying to distract herself.

Kai could hear Casimir speak from back-stage. He was nervous about this performance. Something didn't feel right, but he couldn't exactly place what it was. He took a deep breath and peeked out at the crowd, scanning the individuals. So far, nothing stood out of place. There was a section of people he couldn't see because of Casimir, but that was okay. "It's going to be alright." He whispered to himself. "There is nothing to worry about. It's just your nerves." Kai kept thinking back to the crow that he made materialize last night, and his heart raced in his chest. What if something like that happened today? He shook his head and kept reassuring himself that things would be okay.

Juniper felt the uneasiness settle in, getting a tingling feeling something bad was going to happen, as often their powers signaled to them when they were sleep deprived and couldn't see a full vision. Juniper fiddled with their skirt, they glanced at Kai, a little worried, not just for his well being.

‘And now, I welcome our performers! Tonight’s main act will be our wonderful Kai Winters!’ Casimir stepped to the side and held an arm out to the wing for Kai, which was his cue to enter. ‘The incredible magician, the mysterious illusionist, the, uh, author of mirages and dreams!’
The audience clapped. Usually, Kai would walk onto the stage. They’d call on an audience member, usually a child, and ask them what they would like Kai to create. Kai would conjure it up, it would fly around a little, then some music would play and some acrobats would fly. Casimir had memorised every step and word and trill of trumpets. But tonight, it went very wrong. Kai would walk onto the stage, and the tent would erupt into chaos. -
Eloise came back out a few minutes later, still very anxious as she watched Kai walk out to the main area. She crept over to the curtains, poking her head out. Maybe watching his act go well will help her calm down, but in just a few minutes she'd realize the exact opposite would happen.

As Casimir welcomed him to the stage, Kai could feel his heart pounding in his chest. Something tonight didn't feel right. It felt as if there was a change in the atmosphere. He looked into the crowd and smiled. "Hello one and all!" He said, lifting his arms above his head. "My name is Kai, and I am what you would call an illusionist." He grinned and snapped his fingers, causing a cardinal to materialize out of thin air. It ended up perching on the shoulder of an older man and let out a shrill chirping noise. The bird hopped off the man's shoulders and flew back to Kai's hand where it erupted into a plume of red and grey smoke. "Now, that's not all I can do!" He said grinning, feeling slightly more comfortable with the crowd. He snapped his finger, and two male lions appeared in the center of the area. Each one of them let out a fearsome roar. Kai walked around them, and the two monstrous cats sat still. He nodded and motioned them to go toward the crowd.
He could see the concern in some of the people's faces, but so far, so good. "Don't worry, I wouldn't let them do anything to dangerous." He said, trying to break the ice with the crowd. He gave both lions a tap on the shoulder and they both disappeared with two plums of golden smoke. "Last but not least, a volunteer for the crowd." Kai said, scanning the crowd of people. There were a lot of kid's (and adults) with their hands in the air. As he scanned the crowd, he couldn't help but notice what seemed to be a familiar face. When he looked at the girl, he felt he head go light, and he almost felt faint. "You...." He muttered softly. He shook his head as he tried to focus on what he was doing. He had chosen to young boy that was in the front row. The boy wanted to see a couple of grizzly bears and Kai nodded. He scanned the crowd again and spotted the girl from before. His stomach felt queasy, and he felt extremely light-headed.
Kai snapped his fingers, and two malformed grizzly bears appeared in the tent. One looked like it was matted with a red-looking substance. Its mouth was like a cavern filled with sharp teeth, and on each front leg it supported itself with two paws, the claws longer than anything Kai had ever seen. The second bear ended up having two snarling heads. The second bear was massive, almost twice the size of a normal grizzly. He stood there for a moment, his heart racing in his chest. "RUN!!!" He screamed to the guests that were inside the tent, as he tried to distract the two bears by materializing smaller animals that almost turned out just a monster-esque as the bears. He was hoping that the smaller animals would grab the bears attention while it gave the tent full of people time to escape. As he finished summoning the last animal, he couldn't help but think of the girl that was in the crowd. How did he know her? Why did her being there give him such a visceral reaction? Before he could think of anything else, his vision blurred, and he crumpled to the ground. -
Eloise gasped and froze as she watched the following events unfold, panic rising in her. I knew there was an off feeling in the air, I knew it- She thought anxiously, looking around in a panic. She gasped as she saw Kai crumple to the ground, her heart racing. She debated for a moment if she should do something, then beat herself up for even considering not doing anything before throwing her hands out, using her powers to pull Kai backstage to safety.

Casimir stared at Kai’s crumpled body, processing what had just happened. ‘Oh, good lord-‘ He tried to grab Kai’s arm and tug him up, but the ringmaster wasn’t the strongest. He watched his audience flee the tent, screams cutting through the sound of his heart throbbing in his head. Casimir’s eyes turned to the lions as they slashed at the smaller animals, a red liquid dribbling onto the floor.
‘Eloise, get Kai backstage!’ shouted Casimir, dodging a half-dead bird that had been thrust by the bears. He pulled the illusionist away from the chaos by the arm and grabbed his cane, which he’d dropped in his shock. Casimir tried to direct the bears away from the audience, materialising a red smoke-like gas that seeped from his fingertips and swirled around the bears. The tent was near-empty by now, except for a girl, the girl Kai had recognised, hiding behind a chair. She watched the scene with wide eyes, fumbling to grab out her phone and film. Casimir’s coat puffed up behind him as he tried to smack the bears with his cane. He didn’t want to use his powers for fear of making it worse.
‘Get out!’ he shouted at the girl, fearing for her safety. Jordan noticed Eloise, trying to help the illusionist with her powers, and ran behind where the man lay to get backstage. She slipped behind the curtains and filmed the scene from a gap in the fabric. -

Kai came to for a brief moment, his vision blurry. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he thought about the girl that he saw in the crowd. Why did she look so familiar. He tried to open his mouth to speak, but no words came out. His head felt fuzzy, and he could hear the others around him. It felt like he was in a haze that he didn't know how to get out of. Before he could attempt, the light-headedness came back full force, and he closed his eyes. His body felt as if it was falling into a funnel. "It will be okay" He thought to himself.

Juniper watched worriedly, not sure how to help. They looked back and forth to try and figure out why what happened just happened. “Oh my god..” they said quietly “is Kai okay?” Their headache began to return full force, and they began rubbing their temples -

Casimir tried to direct the malformed bears and smaller creatures out of the tent, which in turn made them more aggressive. One of the bears slashed at him, making him instinctively step to the side and hold up his cane in an attempt at defence. The second, larger one made a sound between an ear piercing roar and a strangled scream, pounding towards the flashlight emitting from Jordan’s phone. Jordan, eyes wide with fear, quickly looked around and threw an old vase that sat on a small coffee table at the bear. It shattered on impact, and the creature let out another roar, veering to left and bounding backstage. It was blinded in one of its eyes, socket bleeding a grotesque, yellow and red substance. Casimir gently pushed Juniper out of its way, hand on her arm, not wanting another performer to end up on the floor. He watched the bear smash into the wall, shaking the entire building the tent was attached to, and disappeared in a puff of black smoke. The impact knocked over a curtain, revealing a framed, black and white photo of a young woman, who looked suspiciously a lot like Jordan, with braids and a gentle smile. The first bear also disappeared, releasing a horrible odour into the tent, and leaving the corpses of small birds, mice and other creatures it’s wake.
‘Well. That was quite the scene.’ Casimir said, chest rising and falling as he caught his breath. He looked around at the people around him. His eyes fell on the broken pieces of the vase. ‘And that was my favourite vase.’
‘Sorry,’ Jordan said meekly, peeking out from behind the curtain. Her eyes fell on the photo of the woman, and she had to look twice before noticing her resemblance.
Casimir’s eyes lingered on her for a moment, before turning to his performers. ‘Everyone alright? All in one piece? Good lord.’ -
