Jayden sighed. "What about just you, me, Maeve, and one or two friends of yours?"

'No! It's passed Maeve's bedtime anyway.'

"In that case, what time is it?"

Chester checked his clock. '8:30,' he responded.

"It's not even that late! She has a terrible curfew."

'I'm the one parenting her, not you.'

"How old is she, 15, 14? At that age I barely even HAD curfew!"

Chester sighed. He didn't reply to that, just stared at his pocket watch.

Jayd didn't say anything more as he sat. "So no parties as well? I mean, we ought to have at least one to loosen things up."

'No. I'll let you know if I change my mind,' Chester said, closing his pocket watch.

That boosted Jayden's mood. Sure it could've just been a way to shut him up, but at least he could be a little optimistic that Chester would throw a party.

Chester glanced back at Jayden. 'How do you wish to spend the rest of the night?'

"With a paaarty." Jayd teased. "Or just boring small talk."

'I'm fine with the latter,' Chester said, sitting down on his bed.
