"That's my hope. Of course, I'll probably have to write several letters. I also hope to include some proof so that the human kingdom knows what I say is no bluff." Jack said as he started writing again
-
‘We could go visit them,’ Mildred suggested. ‘After the ball. And after we get rid of the ginger infestation. Or they could come here.’
-
"a visit is the most difficult part. I feel at least a few letters should be exchanged because, well, the more letters I send the less likely I'll get the 'kill the monster' treatment" Jack said
-
‘True. Good point.’ Mildred said. She pushed some of the scattered papers to the side and laid down on the edge of his desk, legs hanging off the side. She looked up at the ceiling. ‘I hope the king likes us.’
-
"I hope so too. If this doesn't go well, it'll be sad for you to be unable to go between kingdoms." Jack said.
-
‘There’s not much there for me, anyway. I still get a little homesick, sometimes, though. Even if this place is better for me,’ Mildred said, staring at the ceiling.
-
"if this deal goes as planned, it'll also be like giving back to the people who helped you on the streets, if any of them helped." Jack said
-
‘Some of them did, yeah. But, y’know, not many.’ Mildred slid off the desk and sat on the floor beside his chair, skirt pooling around her.
-
"the some is part of why I'm doing this. Your human cities are harsh and mean, but there's kindness in there as well." Jack said
-
Mildred gave a smile, resting her head on his knee. She yawned. ‘You’re a very good person, Jack. Or vampire. Same thing.’
-
"well, um, thanks. I try to be the best I can be." Jack said, looking down at Mildred affectionately before going back to his writing
-
Mildred shuffled closer to lean against the drawer of the desk and his knee. ‘What happens if the king says no?’
-
"then... I'll probably have to wait another hundred years to try contacting the human kingdom. They'll try searching for my kingdom no doubt but we're quite well hidden. They might also try deceiving me which is why I'll need to analyze the letters carefully." Jack said
-
Mildred didn’t like the idea of waiting a hundred years. She’d be long dead by then. ‘Good to know.’
-
"it's not ideal, but if the human kingdom is hostile then reaching out while the king and his direct descendants are alive would be a bad idea." Jack said, trying to make his point
