"do you think they accept messenger bats? Maybe I should send a pigeon instead. I'll have to borrow one from Nosfera, she's the only vampire that can keep pigeons properly." Jack said
-
‘I don’t think humans like bats. A pigeon would be more acceptable,’ Mildred said, nodding with a smile. She hoped this would work, and wouldn’t spark outrage from the humans. She wanted to be able to travel back to the human town with Jack sometimes. Even if she hadn’t had the best experiences there, she got homesick sometimes. She felt out of place in a big castle with really old vampires.
-
"pigeons would also make us a little less intimidating, at least according to my guess. Bats are what they expect scary vampires to send, pigeons are a bird sent by allies." Jack said, leaning into everything he knew about human politics
-
‘Yeah, exactly. I’m just scared of bats, though,’ Mildred said, shrugging. She ate the candy she had in her hand.
-
"bats are something humans have little understanding of, no offense, your scholars tend to ignore them because there's the stigma that bats drink blood. Some do but believe it or not most bats don't." Jack said, going off on a small tangent
-
Mildred chuckled. ‘None taken. They’re just… freakish, I guess. Like birds.’ She looked up at the night sky.
-
"birds are scary too? I have to add that to my notes." Jack said with a chuckle
-
Mildred huffed. ‘Well, they are up close,’ she said. ‘And when they make those weird sounds.’
-
"I wouldn't know, we don't see many birds at night. I heard though, that there was one that looked bright green like an emerald, buzzed like a bee, had a nose like a mosquito and drank nectar from flowers." Jack said
-
Mildred thought for a moment. 'A hummingbird?' she guessed. 'Hummingbirds are okay. They're small and not violent.'
-
"is that what they're called? I've only ever heard my brother talk about them." Jack said.
-
‘I think so, but I haven’t seen many,’ Mildred said, shrugging.
-
"do they really buzz? And is it true that birds disappear in the winter?" Jack asked.
-
‘They do, it’s because their wings are going so fast, I think. That’s what my brother told me. It does snow in the winter, so the birds migrate elsewhere,’ Mildred said.
-
Jack gasped, he had an idea. "I forgot about winter. If I remember properly, winters are tough on the human kingdom right?" Jack said. He was dedicated to a new idea to help the alliance start
