Mildred grinned, smoothing down her skirt as they continued to walk.
-
Jack turned left so they could reroute to the palace
-
Mildred followed next to him, looking around.
-
The new street had cooler lighting, the streetlights had tinted glass covers that made them shades of blue and purple
-
Mildred looked at the streetlights curiously, though made sure not to slow down beside Jack. ‘Jack?’
-
Jack turned to Mildred and paused his walk. "Yes?" He said
-
‘Have you ever considered making a peace treaty with the human kingdom?’ Mildred asked, looking up at him. ‘Then the king would have no reason to despise your kind, right?’
-
"it would be nice, but I can't meet the king on his terms because of my condition. I also don't think they'd like my policies very much, or the fact that I have to drink human blood once every year or I'll dehydrate to death." Jack said, but despite his refusal, he imagined how nice it would be if humans and vampires could form a treaty
-
‘I suppose, but that could be a way the king gets rid of prisoners,’ Mildred said. ‘Like, he gives you some really bad people every year to, y’know. And you can give him some blood oranges, I’m sure the humans would like these.’ She grabbed one of the candies from the bag.
-
"couldn't they just grow blood oranges? I will say though, the idea of inter kingdom trading is very appealing. We have a lot of rabbits that would help with meat shortages since we don't have to hunt them and you never have to worry about running out of rabbits. My kingdom could also get help with our current predicament." Jack said, voicing his thoughts
-
‘Well, they need a seeds first. I didn’t realise blood oranges existed before I came here,’ Mildred said, shrugging. ‘Exactly, we can help each other! The king can’t deny that!’
-
"I also have to worry about my village though, what if he sends an army? My people would be slaughtered. "Jack said. There was a lot of risks
-
‘I suppose. But any man would common sense would know this is a good thing, right? I didn’t care for vampires before I met you, I’m sure he can change his mind,’ Mildred said.
-
"kings don't change their mind in one visit..." Jack said as he chewed over the idea in his mind. "I obviously can't go myself and I can't send my people without some sort of help..." Jack mumbled as he started to fiddle with a small cheap bracelet on his wrist. "That's as risky as... But it's not bad... If we work on it." Jack rambled on as he thought hard on how exactly to approach it
-
Mildred blinked. She looked up at him, patiently waiting for him to sort it out in his head. ‘After the ball, we could draw up a treaty, send him a cool official letter…’ she trailed off, trying to convince him.
