"right." Florence said, wiping his face. He didn't know how to feel better about what he'd heard even if Collins didn't mean it. He was trying very hard to go back to normal though.
-
Collins grabbed one of hands to try and comfort him, tracing patterns on it. ‘You sure you’re okay?’
-
"I just... I know you didn't mean it... But because I heard it from you.... I've started.... To second guess.... Everything about me........... I think I feel... Self conscious?" Florence said. He wasn't used to these big thoughts. Moral quandaries were far from the concepts he could understand. He barely understood math, much less the concepts of true self.
-
‘I was trying to say that it wasn’t your fault that you’re like this,’ Collins said quietly. ‘It’s not your fault people think you’re scary. Or that you’re stuck here. Or that you’re a Florence and not a human. It’s just… bad luck. I’m sorry it came out differently.’
-
"it's okay. I know you didn't mean anything bad. I don't want to feel upset about it. I didn't even want to say anything because I didn't want you to feel upset about making me upset. I just took it... As a bigger deal than it was." Florence said. He itches his wing a bit.
-
‘It’s okay. I’m sorry it made you upset,’ Collins mumbled. She looked at him, then back at the clouds.
-
Florence shifted his wings awkwardly for a few seconds before getting an idea. "Can we go inside? I need to grab something." Florence said. He awkwardly shuffled his shoulders and extra arms, a tad anxious to stand up.
-
‘Yeah, sure. Whatever you need.’ Collins sat up. ‘Want me to come?’
-
"you can come with me." Florence said standing up. He wound up the heart again and mimicked the melody in piano
-
Collins stood up and followed him into the hospital, careful not to step on any shards of glass. She picked the Band-Aids on her hands, trying not to think too much about the fact she’d upset Florence. She didn’t want to overthink and run away from him.
-
Florence walked anxiously around the first floor before he got to an old break room for the doctors. He reached into an old drawer and pulled out a few rolls of quarters. Florence then, handed them to Collins. "I know these are valuable so I wanted to give them to you." He said. It was his little way of apologizing for making her worry.
-
Collins looked down at the rolls. ‘These look old.’ She said, holding them up to the light. ‘Thanks, I guess. How about I use these to get you a coat you’ll like? So you don’t have to use mine.’
-
"are you cold?" Florence asked sincerely. He started to fiddle with more of the drawers
-
‘No, not right now.’ Collins said, pausing for a moment. ‘You said you got cold a lot in the hospital. And you have a lot of arms, so my coats won’t fit you.’
-
"yeah. The hospital is really cold in the winter. I don't really need a jacket. I can't fly with them, but I think a blanket would be nice. A clean dry blanket with no mold or mildew." Florence said, closing his eyes.
