  Most counselors are trained in psychology. Atleast here they are.

  But for something as complex as schizophrenia there have to be extensive tests done, as well as constant monitoring of the patient. To be one hundred percent sure that it is actually this illness, they have to have an abundance of evidence besides the regular symptoms for every other psychological disorder as well.
