Aaron sat out on his front step. Years ago this would have been a much more homey scene, with neighbors chatting and cars driving by, at least, according to his history teacher. Now the skies were busy with hovercars and technological beeping constantly echoed through the streets. The house behind him was the last one left of its kind, preserved as some sort of historical artifact. Built in 2012, it contained 'old time' architecture including a polygonal sort of design. There were stairs instead of the transportation tubes, and unlike the vast city around it, it stood alone, surrounded by bright green trees and thick tufts of grass, where his great grandparents used to play. This house had been passed down through his family since it was built, and it had great sentimental value. Viewed as the outcast for living as his ancestors had, Aaron was singled out at school and everywhere else. But his way of living seemed practical.
"Who needs so much machinery anyway?" his great grandmother used to ask.
