It makes me think of the places where for miles all you can see is corn. I'd rather be closer to the ocean; the sky; the stars, than corn. I'd rather smell the salty sea air. I'd rather feel wet sand squish beneath my toes.

No, I'm just feeling deep in thought today. Like a poet.
And besides, I've grown up with that only a few hours away from home. The soft, beige sand, the cold water, the broken shells. The breeze whipping my hair around and getting sand in my mouth, shoes, and pants. The father or grandmother walking alongside me, wanting to head back sooner than I. The sandpipers and seagulls flying along the beach, landing in the water, drilling holes in the sand or looking for unbroken sand dollars. -

And the way there, too, feels like home. The tall, healthy evergreens pointing toward the sky, looming over us. The areas where forest fires burned, turning every tree, plant, and animal that couldn't escape into ashes. But the charred remains of tree trunks stand among the fog, like creepy beings. They inspire me.
