Can you help me with something?
(-5 - 4i) - (1 + 2i)
= -5 - 4i - 1 - 2i
= -6 - 6i
And then
(12 + 4i) - (-3 - 6i)
=12 + 4i + 3 + 6i
= 15 + 10i
I noticed that the signs (bolded) changed the other sign but I'm confused to why? Shouldn't the subtraction sign change to the addition sign on the first problem like in the second problem? -
Wait.. nevermind. I see it now.
-
You do? ^-^
-
Yes.
-
Do you get why it did that?
-
Yeah .-.
-
Alright, just making sure.
-
Daarrrrk..
Wouldn't the answer be the third one??
;w; or the first? -
Can you type out the problem?
-
(10k^2 - 5k + 7) - (3 - 6k - 2k^2)
-
It's the fourth one.
-
what...
-
(10k^2 - 5k + 7) - (3 - 6k - 2k^2)
Step 1:
Distribute the signs in front of the parenthesis to the numbers inside.
+ (10k^2 - 5k + 7) - (3 - 6k - 2k^2)
10k^2 - 5k + 7 - 3 + 6k + 2k^2
The negative in front of the second set of parenthesis changes those three numbers, and that might be what confused you.
Step 2:
Add like terms.
10k^2 + 2k^2 = 12k^2
- 5k + 6k = k
7 - 3 = 4
Step 3:
Write answer starting with the biggest value first.
12k^2 + k + 4 -
okay so like
"- (3 - 6k - 2k^2)"
You have to distribute the negative from the outside inside, so it changes the signs of those numbers. Get it? -
Ohhh wow I'm dumb .-.
