Yes, gws does mean that.

I only know the Hiragana for Japanese. Someday it would be nice to know the Kanji (is that what it's called?) as well.

There are four ways to write Japanese.
Hiragana
Katakana
Kanji
Rumanji(words)

I know all but Kanji. But I don't know every word.
