He wanted to take me on a date to the movies, but I politely declined but said I'd love to go as friends.
I'm flattered but I'm also weirded out because he's one of my closest friends. -

The friend zone is a pretty bad place to be with guys when you like the person who friend zoned you. I'm just saying, if i was a girl, I'd go alone. Besides, it costs less.

The friend zone is literally just a butthurt term referring to the idea that a girl just wants to be friends with you and you regard it as a punishment. If you were a girl, you'd be wary of that situation and a bit outraged at a guy telling you that you should go out of your comfort zone to soothe the guy that doesn't think it's worth having you unless it's romantic.
