"Where are you headed?" He blocked her way slightly. Whether she was going to the meeting or not, he wasn't taking his chances with the latter possiblity.
-
She glared at him. "I didn't know that was any of your business."
-
"I'm just curious. Besides, you're a small girl and it's late." He crossed his arms.
-
She got worried for a split second. "A small girl who can run fast and jump from roof to roof. Curiosity killed the cat."
-
"Still, a small girl." The horns blared in the distance, signaling the citywide curfew. In the five minutes allotted to get home, the bar would clear out and the meeting would end. "Shit."
-
She grit her teeth. Damn, even at my best, I can't get home in 5 minutes! And I missed the meeting. "I really have to go..."
-
"Will you even be able to make it in time?" he asked, walking out of the alley alongside her.
-
She jogged to keep up. "No, but I'll try."
-
"I live closer. Come back with me for tonight."
Two of the leaders of the rebellion exited the back door. "Hey, you two," one said, looking at Arthur and the girl." -
"Oh. Umm.. O-okay then." Oh, she was dead.
She turned and inhaled sharply. -
He was about to say something, but turned to face the two men.
"Why weren't you at the meeting tonight? Anyway, we need two young people like yourselves to help with a major part in the," his voice dropped at the last word, "rebellion." -
She glanced at the boy, wondering if he was seriously part of this.
She nodded at the man, showing she was willing to help. -
Arthur nodded as well.
The man and his colleague turned together, silently discussing something. Finally, the turned back to the teenagers. "Alright. Tomorrow, by nine, meet us here again. Forget anything else you would attend to. If things go as planned, you won't need to act under the dictator ever again." The two hurried off before giving the teenagers a chance to reply.
Three short rings blared out- meaning there was a moment until total curfew and arrest to anyone still outside. -
She glanced at the sky. Oh, we are screwed. "Guess we better get going then, eh?"
-
"Yeah, c'mon." He started running.
