She ran with him, running as hard as she could. Stupid curfew. What's the point?
-
The dictator's voice echoed throughout the city, blasting from the speakers. "Thirty, twenty-nine, twenty-eight..."
He slowed, wasting a precious few seconds for her to catch up. "You're slow." He picked her up and ran like that instead. -
She sighed. She hated being useless. "Thanks." She muttered. Speed was not her thing. Agility, yes. Speed? Forget it.
-
"Twenty-four, twenty-three..."
He pushed himself. They were almost there. -
She leaned against him, trying not to bouce too much. She looked up at the sky, wondering how close they were and if they were going to make it.
-
"Nineteen..."
He raced down the street, making it to the building. He set her down, opening the door. -
She went in and shut the door behind the two of them. "Thank you."
-
"You're welcome." He walked down the hallway to a door near the end.
-
She stood in the middle of the room, unsure of what to do.
-
"C'mon... my room's down here." He pulled a thin wallet from his back pocket, and took out a tiny key. He inserted the key into the door, unlocking it and opening it.
-
She shivered slightly and followed him. Her hands were shaking, so she stuck them in her pockets.
-
He held open the door for her.
-
She smiled and nodded shyly and him and walked in.
-
He followed her inside, locking the door behind them.
-
She looked around and wondered why she had gotten herself into this.
